However, contrary to popular belief, it is not “normal” to experience pain during pregnancy...

Understanding pain during pregnancy There are a number of changes that occur in your body during pregnancy. These changes are natural due to the release of hormones that make your ligaments more “flexible” in preparation for birth. There are also adjustments to your posture due to the fact that you are carrying additional weight i...
In the second half of pregnancy, postural changes accommodate the weight of the bump and breasts. The lumbar spine, hips and pelvis must all be free to move, in order to allow the postural adaptations to occur easily.
Osteopathic treatment during and after pregnancy can be beneficial in a number of ways:
• Easing some of the physical discomforts of pregnancy
• Preparing for the demands of labour
• Helping the mother to recover after birth

Osteopathy takes a holistic approach to health by primarily focusing on the manipulation of the musculoskeletal system. Rather than just treating the symptoms, osteopathy focuses on the cause and looks at how the body functions as a wholistic unit.

The secret language of babies.... Here, Priscilla explains her theory that all newborns communicate by using five universal sounds, and that after listening to them a few times, mothers can learn to quickly identify each one and understand what their babies are saying. So, Where Does Osteopathy Fit In During Pregnancy?
Osteopathy assist the natural process of pregnancy and birth by aiding the body to adapt and align as the pregnancy progresses.
During birth, a range of factors influences the descent of the baby through the pelvis. The mother’s pelvis may be twisted or rigid which can interfere with the baby’s passage through the birth canal.
Osteopathic treatment can help to align your body so that your pelvis and lower back mechanics are in the best possible position they can be and with as little tension or restriction as possible. Osteopathic treatment will maximise your body’s ability to change and support you and your baby with minimum pain and discomfort.

Beautiful quotes by Walt Whitman about miracles...
YOU DESERVE TO RELAX... can you relate to any of these common pregnancy problems?
My back pain gets aggravated when standing too long and prevents me from cooking, playing sports, or being social
My lower back and groin area brings me so much pain, it brings me to tears and to bed
It hurts to turn over or get out of bed because my belly is killing me and the pain is shooting down my back and leg
I have been struggling and feel like “just a number” when all I really am looking for is help
S*x is just too painful
Walking and standing up for longer than 10 minutes is painful because of the swelling in my feet
I am afraid that I won’t be able to deliver naturally, and that maybe I’d have to get a c-section

All parts of the body, including the bones of the head, need to be in good alignment with each other and be able to move normally.
Any distortion and asymmetry in the baby’s head at birth often resolves itself within the first few days but often a baby will favour lying on its side as a result of a tiny twist or restriction of one of the bones at the base of the skull or the top of the neck.
As babies spend so much of their time on their backs, the soft bones of the skull start to flatten and distort over time. It's very important to check for body asymmetries, in particular the developing spine for scoliosis.

Pelvic Girdle Pain formerly known as SPD (Symphysis P***s Dysfunction) is common but not "normal". The degree, location and type of pain varies. Some women experience mild discomfort, others can have severe pain, sleep disruption and difficulty with daily tasks. The degree of pain may be related to the degree of pelvic instability and the width of the p***c symphysis. Negotiating stairs, squatting or turning over in bed can all aggravate p***c pain. Osteopathy can help normalise and balance the pelvis thus reducing or if seen early enough even eliminating the symptoms of pelvic girdle pain.
