One of the most astonishing images of 2022...the universe is more wonderful and more magnificent than our wildest imagination. Subhanallah!

Captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, this image covers a portion of the sky the size of a GRAIN OF SAND held at arm's length. Filled with galaxies, each galaxy contains at least a few billion stars and planets.

Quran 45:13 And he has made of service to YOU whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the Earth - it is all from HIM. Indeed, in that are signs for people who reflect.

A handful of stars amidst thousands of galaxies in the distant universe! This breath-taking test image from the James Webb Telescope showcases the deepest image of the sky...for now. The 6-point rays of light around the stars are amazingly clear and the background is full of galaxies - each one of those galaxies contains millions, if not billions of stars! We can't wait to see the first full-colour images from the magnificent James Webb Telescope due to be released tomorrow.

While many believe that the Big Bang theory refers to an explosion, it actually refers to the expansion of the Universe.

And the Universe continues to expand – scientific research is finding that galaxies are moving away from Earth and that the expansion of the universe is speeding up.

What about the future and end of the Universe?

According to scientists, there are a couple of scenarios. One is called the Big Crunch. Based on Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, the Big Bang theory describes how the Universe possibly began, and the Big Crunch describes how it will end as a consequence of that beginning.

The Universe’s expansion will not continue forever. At a certain point in time, it will stop expanding and collapse into itself, pulling everything with it until it eventually turns into a collossal black hole that would pull the universe closed and everything will be squeezed when in that hole - The Big Crunch.

And after that?

Ayat 21:104 continued…
We shall reproduce creation just as We produced it the first time: this is our binding promise. We shall certainly do all these things.

Subhanallah!

The human brain is amazing! It is to date, the most complicated structure in the known universe.

After years of scientific research, there are still endless questions about this magnificent structure that holds as many neurons (nerve cells) as there may be stars in our own Milky Way galaxy!

Your brain has over 100 BILLION neurons, wired together in a network. with each brain cell connected to around 10,000 other cells. It uses a combination of electrical and chemical signals to control everything from breathing and heart rate, movement and coordination, through to consciousness. It does all of this in a package weighing less than 1.5 kilograms - that's a small bag of potatoes!

Scientists have found the structure of the Universe is remarkably similar to the human brain. Both systems are arranged in a complex web or network, spread out in long filaments and nodes that connect them.

‘Mathematics is the language with which God has written the Universe’ -Galileo Galilei

I love this picture of the orbital paths of Jupiter and Mars as they orbit the Sun. The delicate precision makes a beautiful geometrical display!

Quran 45:13 He has made what is in the heavens and the Earth beneficial to you, all as a Gift from Him. There truly are signs in this for those who reflect.

Here Allah SWT sets us a challenge – to explore his creation. Take maths for example - scientists have been able to explore and work out amazing things about the Universe, using maths.

Complex calculations and years of work were carried out by Astrophysicists & Engineers to determine the optimal way to build & launch a rocket beyond Earth’s gravity and to its desired destination in outer space – distance, velocity and gravity all form part of their calculations.

Quran 55:5 The Sun and the Moon follow their calculated courses

The Sun and the Moon follow precise movements. Science recognizes that if the characteristics of the Sun and Moon were different, life may not have emerged on Earth, and definitely would not be thriving.

One type of mathematical shape is a Fractal. A fractal is a never-ending pattern of repeated structures. Fractals are present all around us on Earth – snowflakes, trees, seashells, veins of a leaf, rivers, our brain, blood vessels and even broccoli! These structures are not just magnificent to look at but help that particular creation to thrive due to its fractal structure. Subhanallah!

Scientific research is also finding the structure of the Universe is fractal. Many of the structures & patterns we see on small scales also show up repeatedly, on larger scales, such as galaxies.

95% of the universe remains unseen (dark matter). Dark matter may have an effect on how the Universe is structured with some scientists describing the Universe as web-like. Is it possible that we live in a fractal Universe, and that this fractal-pattern continues throughout the heavens?

Quran 51:7 By the heaven, full of pathways

Time is short…would you agree? Allah SWT references time in Surah Al-Asr,verse 1:By Time!

Time is a creation of Allah SWT.

Is it possible that somewhere else time doesn’t work the same way it does here on Earth?

Time as we know it is relative. Einstein’s theory of relativity theorises that time passes slower in some places than others. Time passes slower near an object more massive than Earth. The larger the mass of an object, the larger the gravitational field, and the slower that time will pass there. This is called Time Dilation, where time differs from object to object, because space and time are combined. The gravity of a huge object bends the space around it, therefore affecting the time too. Time slows down in stronger gravitational fields.

Scientific theory around black holes show that time works differently there…due to the immensely large mass of a black hole, and intense gravitational field, time slows down more than anything else we know!

Could one day here on Earth be a different length of time somewhere else?

In Surah 70, verses 3-4:
From God, Lord of the ways of ascent. The angels and spirit ascend to him on a day whose length is 50,000 years.

50,000 years on Earth is just one day somewhere else?

The time of Allah SWT cannot be compared to time to Earth. Time is a creation of Allah SWT.

Einstein’s theory also explained a way to shorten huge distances in space via bridges in spacetime. Today’s scientists call them wormholes. A wormhole bends space and time, acting as a shortcut/tunnel connecting two distant regions in the universe such as two black holes or other points in spacetime.

Is Allah SWT hinting at wormholes in this verse?  Doorways through which angels ascend to Him from the Earth and descend back down to the Earth…a distance through the wormhole takes the angels a day - without the wormhole it would take 50,000 years!

Other signs in the Holy Qur'an that time is relative:

32:5 He runs everything, from the heavens to the Earth, and everything will ascend to Him in a day, that will measure 1000 years by your reckoning
The mind boggles - Subhanallah!

A beautiful gift from a beautiful friend...Ayatul Kursi...a reminder of God's magnificence, perfection and beauty.

Surah Baqarah, verse 255..the ever-living (al-hayy) the sustainer of (all) existence (al- qayyum)....to Him belongs what is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth.

Allah SWT overseas everything - HE sustains everything. Imagine...as you go about your day, Earth is rotating at a speed of approx 1000 miles per hour whilst also hurtling through space orbiting the Sun at 67,000 miles per hour .
..He knows that which is before them and that which is behind them...

There is so much we don't know about creation...about the Universe...about the multiverse!

Earth's oceans cover more than 70% of the surface...yet 80% of the oceans remain unexplored! It is often claimed we know more about the surface of Mars and the moon than about the ocean floor of our own planet.

Only Allah SWT has all knowledge about everything happening in the universe; the reason and purpose of all creation.

'Understanding Surah Baqarah' by Shaykh Bahmanpour and Dr Seyfeddin Kara gives an amazing insight into this verse we recite regularly and turn to for comfort.

One extract:
..His Kursi (seat) extends over the heavens and the Earth...

'A metaphor referring to God's universal power, absolute control and authority. The kursi does not have physical space somewhere in this universe; rather it emcompasses both the heavens and the earth, but is not within it. It is outside of space and time'

Subhanallah!

Looking back in time...light travels at 186,000 miles per second! It takes light 8 minutes to journey from the Sun (our nearest star) to the Earth. It takes light nearly 4 years to travel from the next nearest star....and that means we are seeing that star 4 years as it was in past!

The further out into the Universe we look, the further back in time we look.

The images above show the most distant individual star ever seen by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Light from the newly-detected star named Earendel has taken 12.9 BILLION years to travel through the Universe and reach us via the Hubble. It's estimated to be 50 times the mass of our Sun and many times brighter...

But that doesn’t mean the star is 12.9 billion light-years away. The universe has been expanding in the meantime, meaning it is actually much further from Earth than that.

Fascinating!
