Big Love ❤️
For nearly 3 years I've had the pleasure of working with this astoundingly motivated and precious angel and her wonderful, dedicated family. This young lady knows her mind and asserts her wishes and she won't do anything she doesn't want to do and I love it!!! We worked on pre-verbals for the time that was needed to build a strong foundation and now the joy of hearing her say her words and hear her voice!!! And YESSSSS this week she is now putting two words together!!!! Oh of course as well as: reading; spelling; being a competent signer and gridplayer user to boot. Family were pretty much told she would never speak. Poppycock!!!! She's surpassing all outcomes of course. This is why is do my job. Ever thankful for my training . I am so lucky to be in this profession. As I wind down the last therapy blocks of the year I am grateful and humbled.
This little superhero asked his mum to send me a picture of him in his Spiderman costume...we've worked hard on saying 'spiderman' not 'fiderman'. Meaningful therapy. And his EHCP SALT funding was agreed based on my second opinion SALT report. Happy days. Can't argue with evidence based strategies and recommendations. Boom...sorry I mean peowww peowww
Cute little axolotl made by my client for me using a 3D printer !!! Love it alotl

Learning Resources are coming up with some gems right now. These little 'Attribute Apples' are another random hit. At first glance they look like nothing but my kids all seem to love them, a good autumn activity too. My toddlers enjoy dumping them in and out of a bowl; rolling; hiding; kicking them and pretending to feed toy animals. They are great for early verbs and core vocabulary at this age. My pre-schoolers like sorting by colour; size and physical attribute so they are great for sentence expansion e.g. 'I have a 'big, red apple'. This morning I'm working on more complex sentences and negatives with my 5 year old as well as similarities and differences. Thses apples are great for this time of play based language development e.g. 'My apple has no worm but it has a leaf' 'This red apple is medium sized but this red apple is small'. Of course I've made visual supports using see the photo 🍏🍎🐛☘️🌿
Another day another dollar! Treated myself to a new resource this half term. pirate surprise treasure game. So far it's a massive hit. Might just be the new cariboo. So many ways to use. Highly recommend
Lockdowns hurt language skills and more children are struggling with language delays. Time for some proper funding for and full link in comments

Lots of prep today getting ready to restart my face to face groups in schools. Exciting stuff. Loving my new rainbow storage container and tuff tray. This will make Lego Therapy so much easier. Now I've just got to work out how to get it onsite. Where is my office again?

Alternative ways to ask someone if they are okay. Repost- these are 🌈🌈🌈❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
Rainbow Rice always goes down well at a sensory table. Rather than using vinegar this recipe is super easy with poster paint. Lush🌈🌈🌈🌈
Have to confess that I missed Winnie the Pooh Day. It's January 18th apparently. Nevertheless when my friend (an awesome SALT ) posted this on Facebook I had to reshare. I had spent the morning yesterday reading Winnie the Pooh themed books with a student to help their grammar. Often I use Winnie and friends in therapy. I'd also been chatting to a friend about how stigmatising mental health and separating people is oftentimes ineffective. This Eeyore Meme is so cute; very powerful and such a simple message. I also learnt this morning that as much as Eeyore has clinical depression; piglet has anxiety. A.A.Milne had experienced trauma after World War One and wanted to present the fragility of the human mind in his characters. Check out this article: https://www.calmerclassrooms.co.uk/the-wisdom-of-pooh/...oh and happy belated Winnie the Pooh Day
If I ever lost my workbag and it were to be found; it would certainly be an interesting find for someone 🤣 What's inside it today I hear you ask?!! Why...bubbles; lights and googly eyes of course! Just your average Speech and Language Therapist's haul. Today I'm working on attributes with a little one I'm seeing. I have bubble wands of different colours and sizes; different coloured googly eyes and some cool lights...including a unicorn one given to my daughter by my Auntie Julia. Very often my kids toys become therapy items 🤣. For this activity; I have a range of differently shaped and sized sensory items so my client can practice expanding her sentences in a motivating way e.g. I want the big pink bubbles; I want the little white torch; I want the pink unicorn light. My client currently only gives one word to make requests so careful object selection is very important. I use the choice board with picture symbols to help my client make her choices using visual prompts. I expand her language by pointing the symbols in the pictures and recasting and extending her sentences. Looking forward to doing this today. Mum will blow the bubbles though🤣🤣 I'm not allowed to do bubble blowing at the moment due to covid...and it's all pretty hard with my face shield on anyways
I've held off sharing this with Hannah but she has been asking to read it for a good few months. It's one of those books I consider to be a rite of passage. I distinctly remember reading it as a child; up in my top bunk bed. Oh how my world opened up. I couldn't believe the cruelty of humankind. It was one of those reads that profoundly changed me. Altered my world view. Visiting Anne's house in Amsterdam as a young adult was equally as moving. I've decided it's the right time to share it with Hannah now as the message of resilience in the book resonates and puts into perspective personal experiences this year. My favourite quote from the book is in the next photo. I'm going to read it again too. Do you have a book that heavily influenced you as a child. If so what is it?
