In continuation of many years of tradition, the CRU Wire & Cable 2024 Conference, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 24-26 June 2024, brought together the international wire and cable community for a frank exchange of views and perspectives on the wire and cable industry. The conference primarily discussed the crucial role of wire and cable manufacturers in shaping the future of power generation, renewable energy, electrification, and the evolution of power grids.

I was invited as a featured speaker on the panel “Europe’s Urbanisation and Net Zero Economy Drive. What are the opportunities for subsea and land interconnections, and the use of HV, EHV and HVDC cables.” I shared with the participants my experience of transforming Tratos into a leader in the cable manufacturing industry helping other companies towards achieving net zero goals and transitioning to renewables and smart grid connections.

I stressed Europe’s rapid urbanization and commitment to a net-zero economy create substantial opportunities for connecting underwater and land-based energy infrastructure using high-voltage (HV), extra-high-voltage (EHV), and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. These technologies can help meet the growing energy needs, integrate renewable energy sources, improve market competition, and lower energy prices. However, challenges such as high investment costs, complex permitting processes, public acceptance, and grid integration must be addressed to realise these opportunities fully.

At the same time, I emphasised the point of view from Tratos, that to overcome challenges we need to focus on another source of energy: fusion, a promising alternative energy source that aims to replicate the process that powers the sun and stars. Fusion promises limitless energy and recent technological advances have opened the prospects of making the nuclear fusion experiment closer to its commercialisation and more fit to the actual needs for energy.

I am proud of my legacy at Tratos, an innovation-driven company, which is well-positioned to continue its leadership on sustainability matters and innovation in the cable-making industry. By supplying superconductors to ITER, Tratos is ready to build on its achievements and continue driving positive change in the cable-making industry to revolutionize the energy sector.

Misconceptions circulate about our nation’s position on various international matters, particularly concerning our relationship with Russia and our support for Ukraine. I want to emphasise that San Marino is an independent nation with foreign-policy principles. It has consistently demonstrated its commitment to upholding international law, promoting peace and supporting all countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Ukraine.
San Marino has taken concrete action to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and condemn Russia’s belligerence. We have unequivocally supported measures to counter Russian aggression, including voting in favour of sanctions against Russia and supporting initiatives to increase support for Ukraine, such as increased paid-in capital for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. San Marino has engaged in diplomatic efforts to tackle the crisis and has aligned itself with the European Union and other partners in calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
I want to assure you that San Marino remains steadfast in its dedication to promoting peace, stability and respect for the sovereignty of all nations.

It nurtures, enhances, and builds long-term partnership models that transform conversations into action and achieve positive social impact.

On 28-29 May 2024, Consul Bragagni and Paolo Rondelli, former Captain Regent of San Marino, attended the 2024 Concordia Europe WWeb Summitheld in Porto, Portugal. Aiming to fill a gap in diplomatic conversations shaping Europe and the role of the private sector, the 2024 Concordia Europe Summit brought together decision-makers from across the world.

A thought-provoking event, the Summit leveraged different networks of business and social leaders and key government officials from around Europe and beyond to forge critical connection points and foster a community of stakeholders to build regional unity in Europe.

Many topics and themes explored during the 2024 Concordia Europe Summit will be revisited at the 2024 Concordia Annual Summit, taking place on September 23-25, 2024, in New York City alongside the United Nations General Assembly.

On the 23rd of May 2024, I, was delighted to participate in a celebratory event organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) to mark the relocation of its premises in London to a new address.

The event was graced by notable figures including the Italian Ambassador to the UK, HE Mr. Inigo Lambertini, and the General Consul of Italy to the UK, Mr. Domenico Bellantone. Additionally, numerous distinguished guests from the London Diplomatic Corps, business enterprises, academic institutions, and more were in attendance, adding to the occasion's significance.

The Italian Trade Agency is a governmental agency dedicated to supporting the business development of Italian companies abroad and promoting the attraction of foreign investment in Italy. Through a motivated and modern organization and a widespread network of overseas offices, ITA offers a range of services, including information, assistance, consulting, promotion, and training, to Italian small and medium-sized businesses. Leveraging modern multi-channel promotion and communication tools, the agency actively works to showcase the excellence of Made in Italy to the world.

The event provided an exceptional networking platform and fostered the exchange of business investment ideas, further strengthening the ties between Italy, San Marino, and the UK.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Giovanni Sacchi, a dear friend and a fellow Aretino, whose support and camaraderie have been invaluable.

In una tavola rotonda organizzata da Agenzia-Camera di Commercio la delegazione BERS, introdotta dal Segretario Gatti e accompagnata dal Professor Maurizio Bragagni OBE, Governatore supplente presso la Banca, ha illustrato le diverse possibilità di collaborazione offerte dall’istituto agli operatori sammarinesi.
La Banca, che opera in circa 40 Paesi favorendone la transizione verso un’economia di mercato ed è leader in materia di finanziamento alla sostenibilità ambientale, sostiene investitori internazionali attraverso finanziamenti per progetti o investimenti, concedendo prestiti e garanzie e acquisendo partecipazioni in capitale di rischio, sfruttando al contempo la propria conoscenza dei mercati regionali. Si concentra soprattutto sulla collaborazione con il settore privato, spaziando dall'energia all'agroalimentare, dall'immobiliare al turismo e alle economie verdi.
Il Segretario Gatti, in qualità di Governatore presso la BERS, ha aggiunto: "San Marino è un socio della BERS, ma non è un paese operativo in quanto è già un’economia di mercato. Tuttavia, i servizi offerti dalla Banca possono essere un'opportunità per il nostro settore imprenditoriale. Spero che questa iniziativa crei un legame più stretto tra il nostro tessuto economico e finanziario e la BERS, e auspico una stretta collaborazione tra i nostri operatori economici e la Camera di Commercio quale punto di contatto di BERS rispetto alle imprese del territorio per formalizzare le procedure necessarie".
Per il Direttore Generale di Agenzia - Camera di Commercio, Denis Cecchetti, si tratta di una “grande opportunità da condividere con i diversi stakeholder locali interessati, inclusi gli istituti finanziari sammarinesi e i liberi professionisti che possono fornire le loro competenze in progetti transnazionali. ASE-CC, quale punto di contatto tra gli operatori sammarinesi e la Banca, agevolerà approfondimenti diretti e la partecipazione ai progetti più coerenti con le specializzazioni imprenditoriali e professionali sammarinesi.
