The Port Mourant distillery achieved distinction for its production of rums, contributing to the renowned navy rums cherished by the Royal Navy. This rum from The Diamond Distillery has harnessed this historic design to create a liquid bursting with tropical flavours. Rich and oily, the spirit has matured well over 13 years giving a beautiful balance to the rum punchiness, as well the colour.
In recent years rum has become one of the hottest and most exciting spirit categories around. As people began to appreciate how complex and layered older rums can be, enough to rival top malt whiskies and old cognacs in many eyes, some distilleries have shown an ability to consistently produce amazing quality.
Diamond Distillery is a Guyanese rum distillery capable of producing over 26 million litres of alcohol per year, most of which is used for bulk rum and blending. Diamond Distillery is probably most famous for bottling under the renowned El Dorado brand and is also very popular with independent rum bottlers, including Hunter Laing. They use nine stills at Diamond Distillery of which the double wooden Port Mourant still is their most renowned. The wooden stills and copper swan neck which runs directly into the second still contributes to its unique deep and rich flavour. Pussers Rum and other navy rums continue to use rum from the Port Mourant stills at Diamond Distillery.

Glen Garioch, pronounced (Glen Gee-ree) is on the rise as a single malt. The distillery has a couple of intersting, including using direct fire heat for their wash stills which produces a maillard effect on the final product in the form of more full bodied spirit. With a small production run of 1.5m litres a year and a renewed focus from owners Beam Suntory and you have an excellent purchase.

Cask Trade have never sold a cask from this distillery, making this barrel somewhat of a first time exclusive for Auction Your Cask.
In 1824 legitimate distilling was legalised in Scotland and merchant George Cooper wasted no time in establishing Glencadam distillery only one year later. Lying a half a mile from the River Esk it is only one of four distilleries between Dundee and Aberdeen on Scotland’s East Coast, 10 miles from both Arbikie and Fettercairn distilleries.
Over the following 200 years there was a number of different owners and thankfully each owner was careful not to spoil the charming character of Glencadam. Glencadam is not a distillery many are familiar with since historically, its whisky has mainly been used in blends. Since 2003, it has been owned by the Hillman Family under their Angus Dundee PLC business (also the owners of Tomintoul) who, for the first time in its history, bottled Glencadam Highland malt commercially as a 15 years old expression in 2005.
Amazingly, the shape of the stills at Glencadam has never altered over the years. Their lyne pipes run upwards at an angle of 15 degrees rather than downwards which it is believed to help produce a particularly delicate and mellow spirit and sweet , fruit notes after maturation. The particularly soft water lends an additional creamy taste to the whisky, which when matured in refill American oak, has a soft buttery quality and silky palate. This is an underrated distillery that’s starting to get the attention it deserves.
Lot: 130006
Distillery: Tormore 2009
AYS: 16/02/09
ABV: 58.50%
Litres: 88.3 RLA
Regauge Date: 31/01/2024
Estimated Number of Bottles: 216
Tormore is one of the most stunning examples of 1950s distillery architecture, but official bottlings are hard to come by. Previous owners Pernod Ricard reserved most of this great liquid for its blended Scotches. That's what makes this a fantastic cask, the renewed focus and investment from passionate whisky owners that have experience building successful businesses.
Traditionally there has only been a handful of Tormore Distillery Bottlings and these have not always been a priority for owners Chivas. Built in 1959 by famed architect Sir Albert Richardson it looks very palatial being made out of Scottish granite in a two-toned colour scheme. There is also a clock tower and everything is trimmed in copper and oak with beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding it.
New owners - The Singh brothers - founders of The Whisky Exchange, are planning on opening the distillery to the public with a visitor centre. Investment from passionate whisky owners that have experience building successful businesses is a great asset for this cask.

Distillery: Glen Grant 2007
AYS: 10/04/07

Glen Grant is one of four distilleries in the Speyside village of Rothes and is best known for being the number one single malt in Italy. Its story goes hand in hand with Italy's love affair with single malt Scotch. This 2007 Hogshead is a bursting with fruity citrus flavours and has a nice note of sweet cinnamon spice, along with biscuity undertones. A fine whisky to have in summer.
Glent Grant distillery has a large capacity of 6.2million litres per annum and a new, highly efficient, £5m bottling hall which can handle 12,000 bottles per hour. Glen Grant is unique amongst large distilleries since it bottles all its production on site.
The whisky ages very well in sherry casks but these are becoming increasingly more difficult to find. For the investor, this is an opportunity to own a very famous distillery that makes very good whisky. Campari is clearly putting the investment in and has plans to restore former glory and get the brand back to the upper echelons, so the whisky could well be undervalued. Either way, there’ll always be independent bottlers who would be interested in this Malt so there is a secure exit strategy. What is worth exploring is holding onto the cask for a longer investment as the whisky does age very well.

Miltonduff is best known for being a proponent of single malt in Ballantine's blended Scotch. Casks from this distillery are rarely seen on the secondary market, and owners Pernod Ricard are investing £88m into the distillery. In addition, they recently released previously scarce official single malt bottlings. Keep this cask for another 2-3 years, and you'll have a 15-year-old single malt that stands out.
