Going Digital Photography Workshops London

Well hello there!

How are you all doing?

Even though it's been quiet on this page of late I can assure you it's been very busy here at Going Digital London HQ!

I have run a number of Introduction to Photography (ITP) workshops this year in Central and South East London and it has been amazing to meet so many photographers who want to develop their skills and understand cameras beyond auto mode.

A gentleman named John joined me on our Get Off Auto, Movement and Manual Mode & Composition workshops between April and June and I was delighted when he got in touch recently to leave a written report on his experience attending our workshops.

If anyone feels any trepidation about attending a group workshop or feels that it might be too technical for them please read below for John's comments which I hope will show you that our workshops are really accessible and for everyone.

"After some years of using my camera on Auto mode (and being one who had had in earlier years a liking for "old school" photography with rolls of film with their various ASA/DIN shenanigans etc) it was with some trepidation that I decided to attend all 3 of Richard's Introduction to Photography courses. I needn't have worried - he is obviously someone with a passion for photography and an understanding of other people's concerns that he made each session very interesting and enjoyable. My initial fear of the use of the various combinations of digital Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed settings were soon overcome, and brought back a greater understanding of what - for me - taking photographs is all about and I am now looking forward to putting those skills to use in helping me to take better shots. Thank you again for passing on that enthusiasm and knowledge."

Wildlife Photo Safari in Bushy Park - 30 April 2022 - Limited to 6

We are privileged to be able to offer this Wildlife Photo Safari in King Henry VIII's Royal Park opposite Hampton Court. All organised photo-walks that take place in Bushy Park must have a licence from The Royal Parks (TRP) and we have been granted one for this event.

Please read on for more details.

Learn to take great wildlife portrait and action pictures of red and fallow deer and other Park wildlife, typically, squirrels, herons, parakeets, cormorants, swans, and other waterfowl. Kestrels and kingfishers are also regular visitors to Bushy Park.

Join us on our only Bushy Park photo-walk in 2022 and we will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to capture great images, essential during the October/November deer rutting season. 11am-4pm (includes briefing and de-briefing sessions).

I'm really looking forward to the GD Bushy Park day on Sat 30th April. A great place to learn about and practise wildlife photography. This workshop is suitable for those who want an introduction to the Park and also anyone wishing to take their wildlife photography to the next level. It's a great location to learn how to demystify your camera given it's various landscaped gardens and animal habitats that include meerkats, ring tailed lemur's and marmoset's to name but a few.

Did someone say Squirrel Appreciation Day? Who doesn't love a squirrel? Well maybe if you've been stalked by one in St James's Park as you eat an ice cream then you might not be too keen! That's a true story by the way and despite that I still love the little furry blighters!

Unfortunately I do not know of any red squirrel locations in London so can't offer photography days here but my colleagues in Going Digital Scotland and Going Digital Photography Courses Yorkshire do run these fantastic opportunities so why not make a day or weekend of it and go grab some amazing images of these rare rodents!

We were delighted to welcome 3 more students on our Light Trails & Night Photography photo-walk this past Saturday. Led by tutor Tas Black the students were shown how to master manual mode to get the best out of their night photography.

Ian kindly sent us some of his images from the evening and these are some of my favourites.

If you would like to have a go at this then the next one is in February and will be our last one until around October because of the longer daylight days.

Have you met the newest member of the Going Digital London team? Marc Ayres joined the team this summer and recently led our deer rut photo-walks which were a great success.

Marc is a black and white photographer based in Kent. He shoots a wide variety of genres, with urban wildlife, especially since the nationwide lockdown, being a huge passion. He raises money and awareness for local charities who are at the forefront of the impact humans have on our wildlife. Be it direct action habitat protection or the wildlife hospitals that receive the injured animals on a daily basis.

Graduating as an Illustrator, and working within the creative industries for nearly 20 years as a Senior Graphic Designer/Studio Manager, he realised that photography gave him a creative outlet away from the demands of clients which was incredibly fulfilling. Working with commercial photographers via his job has helped him gain knowledge around many different styles and genres.

Lovely to see our Sara Melhuish Photography getting featured again. We love her work here at Going Digital London and we know that all those who have attended photo-walks with her in the past feel the same.

Whilst we are not able to run any of our photo-walks during the latest lockdown measures we are very much looking forward to when we can be out teaching and making images again.

We are optimistic that this we be a reality by March and we are accepting bookings for Sara's walks in March and April.
