"I was homeless living on the streets until helped me in arranging a home for me and supported me with all the necessary paperwork I needed to complete," said Paul, who was housed by our homeless services programme in 2023.

"I am now moved on to live independently and manage my affairs myself. I will always be grateful for the help and support I received."

Two Step, our services programme, is hard at work every day to house people experiencing in London, with 65 people housed since January 2024.

At the event, Rob also heard from the minister for housing and , Felicity Buchan MP, who affirmed the unique and valuable role of night shelters in offering a lifeline to over 4,000 people last winter.

How often do you get to say " Today I helped make someone's life better"?

Volunteering for Crisis at Christmas is a special experience. It's not all about leading sing-alongs and serving Christmas dinners (although that's part of it!). It's about meeting an individual, hearing their story and helping them start to build a life beyond homelessness. Last year 75% of our hotel guests moved on to safe, permanent accommodation and didn't go back to the streets. They'll be celebrating Christmas in their own homes this year.
