The RISE Collective

The RISE Collective. Amplify your voice. Own your future. Building creative opportunities for young people to evoke change.

The RISE Collective was founded in 2015 to tackle the persistent disenfranchisement and marginalisation of many of our young people. Through creative arts and media we are shaping opportunities for young people to build self-organising collectives, amplify their voices and connect to innovative platforms, professional experiences and strong role-models. We want to bring forward the day that young

Dear Keir Starmer, your job starts now!✊🏾⭐️✊🏻⭐️✊🏽

On July the 4th 2024, a general election was held in the UK. As the votes came trickling in over night, the Labour Party won a landslide victory making Keir Starmer the new British Prime Minister.

We know that political action does not only exist in Westminster, it stretches across communities, collectives and underground spaces🪐🌟 Let’s make our voices heard beyond voting, applying pressure for genuine change and rising for collective liberation for the many not the few🌈✊🏾🌟💥

Young people have the passion, the drive, and the power to create meaningful change 📣

Despite lower voter turnout rates compared to those over 65, youth engagement in politics is vibrant and vital - we just need to be heard. Today, we’re shining a light on some incredible youth activists who have made a significant impact:

🌟 Olive Morris: Jamaican-born political activist and member of the British Black Panther Party. Olive fought for civil rights, housing, and women's rights, leaving an enduring legacy in Brixton despite her untimely passing at 27.

🌟 Yara Eid: Palestinian journalist and human rights activist in London. Yara uses her platform to raise awareness about Gaza, urging British citizens to press their government for change.

🌟 John O’Brien: Social activist from Harlem who fought for LGBTQ+ rights and participated in the Stonewall Riots. John’s early activism at just 20 years old helped propel the Gay Rights movement forward.

🌟 Mikaela Loach: Political activist and author of It’s Not That Radical: Climate Action to Transform our World. Mikaela recently took a stand at a Shell CEO conference, demanding the company address the devastating impacts of their operations in the Niger Delta.

🌟 Hale Zukas: Disabled human rights advocate who demanded accessible welfare services, public spaces and transportation. Hale's lifelong activism paved the way for a more inclusive world.

🌟 Fiona Lali: 26-year-old Revolutionary Communist candidate for Stratford and Bow in the general election. Fiona is committed to justice and aims to expose the political establishment’s complicity in global injustices.

Your voice is powerful. Use it.

Register to vote via the link! 🗳️✨

Looking back on our Youth Voice 101 training sessions last autumn with Young Westminster Foundation! 📣✨

We worked with 20 passionate youth workers to provide them with the tools to centre young people’s voices in their work, and empower them to speak out on the issues that matter most 🌟

Through hands-on workshops and insightful discussions, we explored methods to create environments where young people feel heard and valued, activities that build creativity and confidence, as well as practical solutions to centre young people in decision making.

Shoutout to Young Westminster Foundation for their support - we're proud to be part of a movement that amplifies young voices 💡

You’ve heard of co***ne bear, but how about co***ne fish? 🐟❄️

Jokes aside, this is corporate greed and mismanagement at its finest.

Thames Water investors have pulled £500 million in emergency funding as tensions escalate with regulators.

The company was hoping to give consumers a hefty 40% bill hike, along with leniency on fines and shareholder payouts, but regulatory body Ofwat brands their plan 'uninvestible'. 😤

You know things are bad when even Michael Gove won’t back you.

Despite record profits, the company's refusal to invest in infrastructure upgrades has led to a staggering 163% increase in raw sewage dumping into our precious water sources. 🌊💩

Profit margins should never come at the expense of public health and environmental well-being.

How is nationalisation looking to everyone right now? 🙄

Tired of the dehumanisation, tired of the scapegoating 👇

Rishi Sunak has come under fire this morning for shamelessly ‘joking’ about the ‘definition of a woman’ in the commons, as Brianna Ghey’s mother sat in the public gallery.

Just four days ago, Judge Justice Yip jailed Brianna’s killers, citing transphobia as a leading motive for the crime.

Brianna was a bright young woman who deserved to live a long, fulfilling and happy life.

Let's be clear, this wasn't just a 'tasteless joke.' It's another instance of transphobic rhetoric from the Prime Minister.

Rishi's words aren't isolated; they feed into the ongoing dehumanisation and persecution of trans individuals in the UK.

Stop using trans folks as scapegoats for your failures, pls and thank you!

Dr Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah was born and raised in Birmingham, England.
By the time Benjamin had turned 13 he had already finished education and was heavily influenced by poetry and music of Jamaica which was named 'street politics'.
An absolute pioneer in the game, Benjamin rejected an OBE which was awarded to him for the work he has done for Global Majority communities and his contribution to poetry. Benjamin rejected this because he said it would be hypocritical as he has been fated by empire and slavery his whole life.

Benjamin gave so much and we here at RISE would like to thank him for his dedication and contributions he has made to arts, poetry and for inspiring so many children and young people.

Rest In Power

Our Story

The RISE Collective was founded in 2016 in response to the marginalisation of many of our youth. Through creative and collaborative opportunities we use music, film, arts, media and technology to give silenced young people the knowledge, skills and drive to understand their power, amplify their voices and create their own futures.

We deliver activities and initiatives by partnering with charities, arts organisations, music venues, local community groups, musicians and influencers and all our activities are co-designed with young people.

In fact RISE is being built with a group of talented, strong and inspiring young associates who help us reach the most isolated.

We mainly operate in London, but our idea, our plan, is that anything we do can be run anywhere; we have project/event templates that have been co-designed with young people and can be replicated and bought to life all over the country.
