Join us on 15 Nov to hear artist Gala Porras-Kim and Pina magazine founder and editor Catalina Imizcoz talk about Porras-Kimโs exhibition โConditions for recognising a living stoneโ, commissioned and produced for the magazineโs pages.
โConditions for recognising a living stoneโ presents a legal case defending the labour and immigration rights of the Ka (life force) of Nenkheftka, an ancient Egyptian official who dwells in a statue kept at the British Museum. Joined by a team that includes a lawyer and an egyptologist, Porras-Kim seeks to restore Nenkheftkaโs agency in his afterlife plans. Her exhibition examines the parameters of respecting beliefs about law, biology and religion across cultural, geographic and temporal spectrums. Thinking about the relationship between objects and the institutions that house them, the conversation will explore the making-of this exhibition in-print.
We are delighted to host this event at Delfina Foundation, where the seeds of the project were planted during โs residency in 2021. More details and registration through link in bio.
๐ซ Hadieh Shafie
Introducing one of our autumn artists-in-residenceโฆ
๐ Hadieh is an Iranian American artist who creates high and low-relief sculptural paintings made of paper, exploring the concept of fore-edge painting in relation to the book form.
Featured here are images from across Hadiehโs practice, where she subverts the relationship between image and text reconfiguring our understanding of books.
Hadiehโs artistic interest is deeply rooted in her coming of age in post-revolutionary Iran, where her connection to books became a refuge from her experiences. During her residency, Hadieh will focus on the power of objects and their significance as holders of knowledge, producing a new body of work in response to a history of erasure and displacement.
