After pressure from anti-fur campaigners, Max Mara has banned the sale of fur!

We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this Fur Free Alliance campaign, and we're grateful to every single one of you who stood with us and took action. We did it!

For too long animals have been exploited in the name of fashion. Wild animals captured and held hostage in fur farms are tortured.
We hope this sends a clear message to other retailers who think it is ok to profit from animal cruelty.

Fur farming is an outdated practice to produce unnecessary fashion items that can easily be replaced by ethical and more sustainable alternative materials.

The living conditions of wild animals farmed for fur, like beautiful rescued fox Tomek (pictured), are horrific. 🦊 They stand no chance, are kept in tiny cages and brutally killed – all in the name of fashion.

Tomek is one of the lucky ones, saved from his cage and able to live a happy life at our TIERART Wildtierstation. Millions like him face a different fate.

FOUR PAWS condemns Türkiye's decision to kill street dogs 🐕 💔

The Turkish Parliament have decided to amend the Turkish Penal and Animal Welfare Law to remove stray dogs from the streets and place them in shelters, which could lead to the mass killing of these animals💔.

We are deeply disappointed and condemn this decision Previously, the law prohibited killing and discouraged long-term sheltering of stray dogs. People in Türkiye have been sharing their streets peacefully with dogs for centuries.

Now, these changes will lead to a cycle of suffering and death for stray animals who already face harsh conditions.

Killing and mass sheltering as population control is cruel and ineffective ❌
The new law does not prohibit the breeding and trade of dogs, which significantly contribute to the rise in their population. It also lacks measures to discourage owners from abandoning their dogs and fails to impose criminal penalties for acts of violence against them.

Many examples show that such measures do not reduce stray numbers. It's unsustainable and cruel to kill stray dogs.
There are alternatives to reduce stray populations like the CNVR Method Catch – Neuter – Vaccinate – Return approach which is a sustainable long-term solution✅.

The President of the Republic of Türkiye Erdogan still hasn’t signed the new law yet and has the power to stop it❗ There is still an opportunity to halt this legislation 🛑 and pursue more humane alternatives.

Puppy Tropcho's amazing resilience after trauma 🐕💜

When Tropcho was around four months old, he was hit by a car🚗💔.
Miraculously, he survived.

The people who saw the accident brought the little unconscious dog to our Bankya clinic 🏥 for stray animals.

He was in a coma for three days, and we did everything we could to save his life.

On the third day, he finally opened his sweet, big eyes👀.

He had no broken bones but a very severe concussion. During the first week, he couldn’t stand up and had to learn how to walk again.

The near-fatal car accident left Tropcho with partial blindness in his right eye and a slight limp in his walk. But nothing holds him back from living his life to the fullest. He loves attention, cuddling and playing with other dogs❤️.

We are forever grateful Tropcho was rescued and has made it this far. Now he is ready for the next steps in his life. We're confident we will find him a lovely local home in no time🏡.

🦁 Three Years of Species-Appropriate Living for Ruby 🦁

Earlier this week, lioness Ruby celebrated a momentous three year at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary!

Born at a captive breeding facility in 2006, she was rented to other facilities for cub petting but had to be returned at a later stage. Ruby’s previous owner, a volunteer at the facility, realised the harsh and exploitative reality of the breeding industry and bought Ruby to save her. Ruby moved to a lion facility outside of Harrismith, Free State but in 2020, the farm was sold due to the owner’s illness, and Ruby was brought to LIONSROCK.

Ruby has since adapted well and is living a species-appropriate life at her forever home! ⛰️🐾❤️

Happy Birthday, lion Simba! 🎉 The handsome rescued lion turned six years old!

To celebrate, the animal caretakers at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary decorated his enclosure and laid out some delicious treats for him to celebrate this special day. 🎂

At the end of 2020, Simba was on the news and on social media, he'd been used for pictures and a video clip 🎬 by a Romanian artist.

Simba was clearly injured, and there was a public outcry from Romanians 🇷🇴 shocked at his condition.

Fortunately, we could save him and give him the care he needed. 🚚

Simba arrived at his forever home in October 2021, where he now has space to roam, specialised care and will never be exploited again.

We're so proud to care for him and wish him many more happy birthdays! 🧡

This is the cruelty of foie gras.

Ducks being force fed until their livers swell. Stressed to the point of tearing out their own feathers. Kept in tiny spaces, unable to clean themselves.

Despite the production of foie gras being banned in the UK, we continue to fund this cruelty by importing and selling it on our shores.

We’re urging newly elected MPs to help us stop this cruelty by entering the Private Members Bill ballot.

Despite being a fascinating and iconic species, lions continue to be abused on a horrific scale. Used for entertainment in circuses or tourist attractions, kept as pets in unsuitable living conditions, shot by wealthy trophy hunters for "sport", or traded for their parts.

In the past 20 years, there has been an 80% fall in wild lion populations.
If we want these majestic animals to continue to exist in nature as they should, we must start treating them with the respect, empathy and understanding they deserve.

Manuschka's Start to a New Life! 💗

We're delighted to update you that beautiful lioness Manuschka is settling in at her new species-appropriate home, TIERART Wildtierstation - a far cry from her former circus home.

Now, Manuschka finally has the space and care she needs for a happy life. In time, we will transfer her to her permanent home at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary, where we plan to socialise her. 🦁🦁

Thanks to our rescue efforts and the circus's willingness to give Manuschka a better life, her fate has taken a positive turn. Unfortunately, not many wild animals in circuses have that luck. Wild animals still suffer in German circuses because the law does not protect them from being used for entertainment and kept in inappropriate conditions. 🎪⚖️

Now that Parliament is open, newly elected MPs can make a real difference for animals, by putting themselves forward for the Private Members Bill ballot.

🗳️ Private Members Bills or PMBs are bills that MPs can introduce themselves to change the law.
➡️ Ballot bills have the best chance of becoming law, as the first seven selected bills get priority.

We’re calling on ALL MPs to lead efforts to tackle animal cruelty by entering the ballot and progressing:
🐶 a bill to protect puppies from illegal smuggling
🦊 a ban on the import and sale of fur and foie gras

Animals left out of new Government's first ‼️

We have high expectations for the new The Labour Party Government to deliver on the strong animal welfare commitments promised in their manifesto and were disappointed to see no mention of animals in yesterday's speech.

We will now be seeking urgent assurances from the Government that they intend to make progress on tackling animal cruelty within the first 100 days of this new Parliament.
