: Last night, the celebrated their Annual Exhibition private view and announced the winners of their prestigious awards!

👏 Congratulations to all award winners and participating artists in this year's exhibition!

🎉 Special shoutout to Charlotte Houlihan () for winning two incredible awards: The Val Harris Prize and the NEAC Scholarship 2024-2025 for her work 'The Gentleman's Art Club.'

👏 Huge congratulations to Rizza Zahid () for winning The Hermione Hammond Drawing Award for emerging artists aged 35 or under, and for being the runner-up for the NEAC Scholarship with her work 'B66.'

🎉 Congratulations to T.F Ashley () for winning The Doreen McIntosh Prize, awarded to an artist whose work embodies NEAC ideals of rigour, visual engagement and a searching attitude.

We had the pleasure of speaking with some award winners about their reactions:

"I am absolutely blown away and overwhelmed. It is my only job, I juggle making art around being a mum to two kids with additional needs. This will give me the opportunity to spend more time painting, developing, and learning from the best painters." - Charlotte Houlihan

"It is validating to have my work recognised by accomplished artists. It encourages me to take my craft more seriously and continue to develop it. I am not a full-time artist; I work part-time and only started pursuing my craft professionally last year." - Rizza Zahid

⭐ A special thank you to our wonderful speaker of the evening, , who officially opened the Annual Exhibition!

was formed in 1886 in response to the revolution in art that had just occurred across the Channel in the form of Impressionism. What so excited the NEAC founders about these French artists was that they were looking at the world with fresh eyes, with honesty and with a willingness to reject tired academic solutions to what a painting should look like and how paint should be applied. The NEAC continues to celebrate art that comes out of looking with new eyes and experimenting with technique 🖌️

👏 Meet Patrick Cullen, the new NEAC President!

This year's NEAC Annual Exhibition offers viewers a captivating journey into the world of observational art 👀

This is my first annual exhibition as President, I have to say how delighted I am, after twenty-five years as a member, to have been elected President of the remarkable society that is the New English Art Club. There is a huge amount of pride that we all feel, members and non-members alike, exhibiting with this society, aware as we are of its rich history and famous past members. – Patrick Cullen PNEAC

Cullen comments on his work in this year's annual exhibition:
After more than 50 years as a landscape painter and noticing so many climate related changes to the natural world, I felt impelled to attempt a response through my art to the crisis we are facing. “Earth Has No Reset Button” depicts a dystopian Piccadilly Circus where the heat of the day persists close to midnight and no one looks up at the warning sign. It is one of a series of paintings I have embarked on addressing the climate emergency.

Today, we highlight the incredible artwork of Victoria Jinivizian NEAC.

"Made from drawings while staying at the Greek home of the late Paddy and Joan Leigh Fermor some years ago, before it was left to the Benaki Museum. John Betjeman wrote to Leigh Fermor “of course that big room is one of the rooms in the world”. The figure, constructed from drawings of Emma and Daisy Jellicoe while at the house, is for me, ostensibly Joan, the lesser known but equally fascinating half of the Leigh Fermor couple, and perhaps a nod to the creative wives of famous artists." - Victoria Jinivizian NEAC. 🛋️

📣 NEWS: Last night, the hosted their special 'Panel Talk' and Prize-Giving Ceremony, announcing the winners of the two headline awards!

Awarded by Art Historian, Journalist, TV Presenter, Author, and Lecturer Andrew Graham-Dixon (.graham.dixon):

🎉 Congratulations to artist member Andrew James NEAC RP (), who won The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture for his work 'Reverie,' recognised as the most distinguished portrait in the RP's Annual Exhibition 2024.

👏 Massive congratulations to artist Mark Shields for winning The William Lock Portrait Prize for his piece 'Companion,' celebrated as the most timeless portrait with a true feeling for paint and its aesthetic potential.

We had the pleasure of speaking with both award winners:

'I am superficially, momentarily feel rather overwhelmed...I think for the British tradition The Ondaatje Prize has been the one that I’ve really dearly wanted. But I’ve never said this, before, but I always did. I feel some sort completion which I never ever thought I would' -Andrew James NEAC RP

'Firstly, It is a tremendous honour and a great shock and surprise...the prize, talks about being for the most timeless work and that is something that all artists long to be able to produce whatever it means, there is no formula for timelessness in a work. So to get something like this, is such an amazing thing. -Mark Shields

⭐ A special thank you to our wonderful panellists, who hosted a lively discussion on "The Political Portrait." Key guests included:

Saied Dai RP, artist
Laura Freeman, Chief Art Critic at The Times
, winner of the RP Critical Writing Prize for his essay "The State and the Art"
