How books about myths and legends can introduce children to other cultures Author Thiago de Moraes shares how ancient stories can open up opportunities for children to learn about different cultures.
Today would have been the birthday of our founder and chairman, Peter Usborne, who sadly died earlier this year. Peter was fiercely passionate and excited about many things in his life – his family, and Usborne, and also Teach Your Monster . Funded by The Usborne Foundation, a charity set up by Peter with his children Nicola and Martin, the Teach Your Monster team inspire learning with their magical reading, maths and wellbeing games for kids. Peter was so proud of the huge impact that these games have had already, helping millions of children all over the world to learn. As we remember Peter’s life and work today, we’d love you to tell someone about Teach Your Monster to celebrate this wonderful legacy. All the games are available to play online for free.

"Imagine trying to translate song lyrics without hearing a melody, without knowing the tempo or whether it’s supposed to sound choppy and syncopated or ballady and soaring. Pictures can soar, too. Translate the text in isolation and you’re missing a dimension — sometimes even vital clues to a book’s meaning."
Daniel Hahn, an important translator for Gecko Press, explains the art of picture book translation in The New York Times
