As the title conveys this is a fresh and vibrant show that fills the gallery with colour and positivity and carries the true ethos of the B.O.G. A trio of artists who are at a very early stage of their career full of energy, great new concepts and philosophies.
We have built up a strong community of artists over the last fourteen years at Ben Oakley Gallery. Creating the gallery in 2010 as a platform for emerging artists to encourage a confidence of personal styles and a freedom to make their art. This was soon recognised by our now more established artists who had wanted to experiment but were inhibited and placed under pressure to keep ‘baking the same cake’. We take pride in this spirit and will continue to show artists from all levels believing that one can strengthen the other.

Ben Oakley Gallery proudly presents No-Brainer, a solo exhibition by Duncan McAfee. ‘No-Brainer’ is a continuation from McAfee’s recent solo show at Ben Oakley Gallery. Here wine spattered portraits of cartoon drunks and saints aptly inhabiting the function room of a pub. Included for the first time here are a three of ‘Oh God’ paintings. Made as the artist emerged from lockdown and coinciding with the Christian Pentecost these are loose and wryly contemporary transpositions of classical Pentecost paintings by the likes of Duccio, Titian and Van Dycke.
Come join us for a glass of wine upstairs here in our new events space at The Shortlands Tavern on Friday September 15th from 7pm. Ben Oakley intends to continue a healthy rotation of solo & group shows in the coming months.

Opens 9th June Friday 7pm -9.30pmExhibition runs until 2nd July 2023‘APPUNTI INUTILI’ Quick words, rapid phrases, & spontaneous ideas put down on paper that are reworked onto canvas at a later stage.‘APPUNTI INUTILI translation ‘SILLY NOTES’ is a series of mixed techniques on paper, quick paintings with a punk sensation, images suggested by sounds and words, some sort of a chain reaction in which one stroke leads to another giving birth to fantastical and surreal stories. A collection of images from the heart, shot straight like an electric impulse from brush to paper. Once again we are blessed by the excellence of the Artists that grace our walls and it is with a bursting heart of pride to re introduce everyone to one of The most un restricted of artists that we have had the pleasure to work with over the last thirteen years. Ladies & gentlemen please welcome Matteo Giuntini who is bringing his very own recognizable artistic language all the way from Pisa Italy. We look forward to seeing you on the opening night or throughout the show.
Please get in touch for a buyers PDF. [email protected]

Ben Oakley Gallery is proud to present ‘The Ebbing Curve of Forgetfulness’. The first solo exhibition to take place in our new building will include more than 30 recent paintings and drawings by South London based artist Duncan McAfee.
Spanning the last seven years of McAfee’s practice the works in this exhibition all share a consistent mix-and-match attitude to image making, splicing together misremembered elements to create his hybrid images. The title for the exhibition comes out of a conversation about the work in relation to Russell Hoban’s 1980 novel Riddley Walker and the creative act of memory to fill in the gaps of what’s forgotten. Trying to remember Hermann Ebbinghaus’ ‘forgetting curve’, a late 19thC mathematical formula that depicts how the rate of human memory decays over time, our title ‘The Ebbing Curve of Forgetfulness’ is itself a misquotation, a faulty memory, borrowed and misplaced in perfect parallel with the works on display. Sound Familiar? Working ahead of time remember remember the 21st April!!! see you here.
