🔈Speaker Announcement 🔈

We are thrilled to announce our first speaker for our ‘Cardiothoracic Trauma: Tales from the Heart’ conference on the 16th March.

Chris Bishop is Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Centre for Trauma Sciences and a Lead Clinical Perfusionist with extensive experience in ECMO and mechanical circulatory support in the management of complex, life-threatening cardiac and respiratory
failure and refractory cardiac arrest.

He will be discussing:
- A background to the pathophysiology of trauma haemorrhagic shock and coagulopathy, and how this leads to downstream cardiopulmonary failure (with a focus on chest injuries)
- An introduction to the concepts of ECMO (physiology and technological aspects)
- A more in-depth exploration of how VA ECMO specifically helps in patients who develop life-threatening cardiogenic shock following trauma; and how this is a new clinical and research paradigm to prevent death in major trauma haemorrhage

We are very much looking forward to having him speak and hope you all enjoy hearing about this fascinating area of medicine.
