Love the simplicity of this image conveying something that can happen to all of us. Therapy can help you make sense of the chaos.
Love this. It reminds us of this advice from Laura, 21:
“Each morning, I mentally check in with myself to assess my mindset for the day ahead. This habit enables me to recognise my feelings, which helps me to better manage my emotions throughout the day. Also, I like to write my feelings down each morning to ensure that I continue my day with a clear and decluttered mindset.”

Looking for therapy? Why should you care if I am registered or not? Many people look for private psychotherapy or counselling via search engines like Google or online registers like Psychology Today or Counselling Directory for many reasons. Search 'psychotherapist near me' on Google and you'll find a lot of people you could potentially contact. But how do you know....
One of the realities of running your own private practice is having to learn and do your own marketing.
With Niki Hutchison Business & Marketing Expert, we have been learning some strategies to help us on this journey. Perhaps you might want to take the plunge and learn some strategies yourself
When you hear, ‘Art Therapy,’ what are your first thoughts? Do they sound like this?
“I’m not good at art.”
“Art therapy is only for kids!”
“Do you interpret my art?!”
Art therapy sessions are not lessons. It’s about accepting who you are and what you do without judgement. That includes what you may or may not make in art therapy.
The reality is that, you can CHOOSE what to do or to say. In Art Therapy, the main way of communication is imagery or through the artwork. BUT much as everyone is unique, so too is what you make.
What one person creates will be unique to that person. So I can’t interpret the work. We would discuss what it means to you.
Maybe it means nothing in particular or maybe it has meaning. Either way, I’m here to help make sense of it WITH you.
For some people, it is the act of making art that brings change and relief from emotions. Talking can help to add further meaning, but talking is not necessary! That’s why Art Therapy can be used by so many people; from those who can’t talk, won’t talk, don’t want to talk, and are not ready to talk.
Often in Art Therapy, I see clients use metaphors either in what they create, in what they say, even in the way they interact with me.
In my research, I came across theories from Cognitive Sciences, mainly Conceptual Metaphor Theory (by Lakoff & Johnson) that I feel helps explains what I experience as an art therapist.
What services can I provide? I am a specialist mental health practitioner and specialise in art therapy.
Who is this suited for? Anyone can attend art therapy! But it is especially helpful for those who find talking about their feelings difficult such as children, those with disabilities or those who do not want to do traditional talking therapies like CBT.
