Ferrings: Our renovation and remodel of a home on a mid-century estate originally designed by Austin Vernon & Partners in 1962.
Whilst conforming to the appearance of the estate, the former garage is filled with light for it’s new life as a studio or secondary living space. The new brick wall is built with perforations for more light to enter the space, whilst also being raised off the ground, providing a light weight appearance to what was once a visually solid and heavy mass.
Ferrings: A view from the courtyard looking toward the linkway: an internal space in disguise, wearing it’s glazing system and brick slip lining… not all is what it seams!
The space hides a secret brick door that opens to reveal a utility space and concrete lined, sky-lit shower room within!
Ferrings: A new glazed linkway leads to the old garage, now transformed into a second living space that is embellished with the play of sunlight and shadow through a levitating and perforated brick screen.
Ferrings: Continuous shelving extends to become a datum line, seamlessly framing a dining space, seating, and storage areas.
Ferrings: Concrete work surfaces ground the bright kitchen, whilst minimal fixtures leave the space free of visual interference.

Ferrings: Custom joinery and floating plywood shelves lead from the study to a kitchen bathed in natural light.

A moody Sky at the Woodlands Residence. A prime vantage point to take in the natural beauty of the East Sussex landscape.
The thin aerofoil-like eaves of the roof compress the view of the horizon.
Woodlands - our dynamic design of a contemporary new-build family home in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex is now complete!
Located on a steeply sloping site with stunning views of the countryside, the CLT framed house is clad in black timber and covered with a Zinc standing seam roof that becomes almost paper thin at the edges.
