Love this from RunningPhysio ❤️ I always try to find the positives in every assessment 1st
Why do we tend to find faults with patients rather than point out positives? 🤔
I once saw a consultant about hand pain, he arranged an x-ray and said my joints were ‘pristine’. Not ‘age related changes’, ‘ok’ or even ‘normal’ but PRISTINE! That word was so positive and reassuring it really stuck with me. It made me think too - why don’t we tend to point out positives to our patients?
We often hear, “my physio said I have terrible posture” or “I’ve been told I’m not moving properly”. Why don’t we hear, “my physio said I’m in great shape” or “I’ve been told my legs are really strong!”?
So I think it’s time we actively looked for positives in our assessments and told the patient about them! When we identify rehab targets like loss of strength, range or control they can become solutions:
Weak ➡️ some strength exercises will improve that
Stiff/ tight ➡️ that will feel better once we get it moving more
Poor balance/ unstable ➡️ you’ll feel more strong and stable with some balance work
What do you like to say to your patients? Let me know in the replies🗣️

REFLECTING.... THANKFUL.... AND HAIR......
💭 Reflecting on the year gone by and yup Blackheath Physiotherapy is still standing.....
Who would have thought it this time last year that
💻Online Pilates would still be running and such a huge hit
😷 PPE would still be a thing
💻 Online initial consultations would prove to be popular and still taking place
AND
💇♀️ who knew my hair would end up being the longest it has EVER been in years......
🗓 As we approach the year mark of our first lockdown take a moment today to congratulate yourself for making it to this point 👏
💛 We have all built resilience in a challenging year
❤ We have all made sacrifices along the way
💜 We have all adapted to different ways of being in this world
🤣 And let's face it we have all missed our hairdressers lol... roll on the 20th of April🤞
🙌 THANK you to everyone who has shown such great support to Blackheath Physio this year, worked hard in your rehab or pilates class and continued to put your trust in me.....
💛 Here's to navigating our way through the rest of 2021, being with loved ones again, having a glass of vino in a beer garden, having a haircut and being grateful for making it this far.....
💛 Kelly x
