Penrose Care

What you do with an empty toilet paper roll surprisingly says a lot about who you are. I was around 18 when someone first pointed this out to me, and it has always stuck with me:

In life, there are two types of people. Some will never go out of their way to fix a problem, help, or lend a hand—even when they've contributed to the issue. They just wait for someone else to come along and take care of it. Then, some see a problem and step in to help, even if they have no part in causing it. They don’t wait for someone else to solve it, they become the person who takes action.

For the last few years, the analogy of the empty toilet paper roll has stayed with me because the simple act of putting a new roll on the holder is more symbolic than you might think. It’s a small action, but it represents a larger mindset. Do you replace the empty roll, or do you leave it for the next person to deal with after you’ve used the last of it?

It’s often the way we handle the smallest things in life that reflects how we approach the bigger challenges.

Our new calculation for the Minimum Price for homecare services in England is £28.53 per hour, for 2024-2025, effective from April 2024, when the National Living Wage increases to £11.44 per hour.

Our Minimum Price is the amount required to ensure the minimum legally compliant pay rate for careworkers (excluding any enhancements for unsocial hours working), their travel time, mileage, and wage-related on-costs.

The rate also includes the minimum contribution towards the costs of running a care business which complies with quality requirements at a financially sustainable level.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, His Majesty King Charles III invested Penrose Care managing director Robert “Bob” Stephenson-Padron as an officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to social care. This follows him being made an OBE by Our Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her Platinum Jubilee Birthday Honours List in June 2022.⁣

As managing director of Belsize Village-based Penrose Care, Mr Stephenson-Padron has led some of the most transformational reforms in British social care and home care in the past 10 years:⁣
> In 2012, he started the Living Wage movement in UK home care. Then there were only 4 home care providers in the UK that were Accredited Living Wage Employers. Today there are over 240 care organisations accredited, improving the lives of tens of thousands of care workers across the UK.⁣
> In 2014, Mr Stephenson-Padron successfully lobbied for the enforcement of the National Minimum Wage in British home care, improving the lives of 100s of thousands of low-paid care workers in the UK.⁣

Mr Stephenson-Padron is also known for leading the revitalisation of Belsize Village as the co-head of the Belsize Village Business Association (BVBA) and sparking the UK’s al fresco dining movement. Mr. Stephenson-Padron is also a serving police officer with the Metropolitan Special Constabulary.
