🌟✨ Happy Passover to all our clients observing this special holiday! ✨🌟
Passover, or Pesach, is a time-honoured Jewish festival that lasts for 8 days, beginning with the Seder night. It commemorates the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, led by Moses. Throughout the holiday, there are several customs and traditions that hold deep significance:
Seder Night: The first two nights of Passover are marked by the Seder, a ritualistic meal where the story of the Exodus is retold through readings from the Haggadah, symbolic foods, and prayers.
Matzo: During Passover, unleavened bread called matzo is eaten to symbolize the haste with which the Israelites fled Egypt, leaving no time for their bread to rise.
Removing Leavened Products: Before Passover begins, Jewish households engage in a thorough cleaning known as “chametz,” removing all leavened products from their homes.
Fasting: The firstborn males traditionally fast on the day before Passover to commemorate their salvation during the Plague of the Firstborn.
No Leavened Products: Throughout the 8 days of Passover, leavened products (chametz) are avoided, and only unleavened bread (matzo) is consumed.
To our caregivers who may not be familiar with these customs, Passover is a time of reflection, gratitude, and celebration of freedom. Wishing you all a joyful Passover filled with warmth, love, and cherished moments with family and friends! 🌟🕊

🚨 Safety Alert: Responding to Falls in a Care Environment 🚨
In a care setting, responding to falls requires quick thinking and a focus on safety. Remember: Never attempt to lift someone who has fallen!
Here's what to do instead:
Stay Calm: Keep a level head and reassure the person who has fallen.
Assess the Situation: Look for nearby objects like a chair or sturdy furniture that the person can use to assist themselves up.
Avoid Lifting: Never try to lift the fallen individual yourself. Lifting incorrectly can lead to injuries for both of you.
Call for Help: If the person can't get up safely, call for assistance immediately—dial 999 if needed.
Report to the Office: Once the situation is under control, report the fall to the office so appropriate follow-up can be arranged.
Preventing falls is key! Here are some tips:
▪ Keep walkways clear of clutter and obstacles.
▪ Install handrails and grab bars in key areas.
▪ Ensure proper lighting, especially in hallways and stairwells.
▪ Encourage the use of supportive footwear with good traction.
▪ Conduct regular assessments of mobility and balance to identify potential risks.
▪ Let's prioritise safety and minimise risks to keep everyone protected and supported! 🛑💙

💧💙 Importance of Hydration and Documentation in PASS Notes 💙💧
Hydration is the key to good health, especially for those under our care.
As caregivers, we play a crucial role in ensuring our clients stay adequately hydrated. But it's not just about offering fluids – it's about documenting their intake accurately too!
🚰 Here are some common drinking vessels and their capacities:
Small wine glass: 120ml
Small glass: 140ml
Small cup: 150ml
Large glass: 180ml
Regular mug: 200ml
Large mug: 250ml
Pint glass: 500ml
Dehydration can lead to serious health issues, so it's vital we monitor our clients' fluid intake closely. Keep an eye out for signs like dry mouth, dark urine, and fatigue – these could indicate they need more fluids!
✍️ Remember to document every sip in care notes on PASS. This helps us track their hydration levels accurately and ensure they're getting the care they need.
Let's work together to keep our clients hydrated and healthy! 💪💧

💡 Fact: Parkinson’s is not solely a movement disorder. It can also lead to non-motor symptoms such as mood changes, sleep disturbances, cognitive impairment, and autonomic dysfunction.
