To mark the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we are spotlighting the work of graduate Faith Chavez who connects with her cultural memory and heritage through the medium of textiles;
'Having grown up in a mixed heritage household amongst very little South American representation, my idea of home has been challenged with feelings of loneliness and misplacement. This collection is a personal attempt to reconnect with my heritage and gain a stronger sense of belonging. EBLA is an appreciation of the elements and memories which I cherish from my childhood in Ecuador, as well as a celebration of my Latin culture which helps me feel closer to home. My grandmothers house in particular is a core part of my inspiration, which make up the details and components of this collection, it is a tribute to my grandmother and to her family name, EBLA.'

Every year we are blown away by the originality of the ceramics on display at New Designers. This particular stand-out piece is by Isa Barontini of Cardiff Metropolitan University, who has created a series of slipcast porcelain pillows. The artist collected dreams through conversation with people she knew or briefly met and decided to apply them with decals to these ethereal white and blue pieces.

Amongst the attention grabbing work on Hereford College of Arts' Contemporary Applied Arts + Metalsmithing stand at was Rowan Lickerish's 'Brutalist Sound', a series of abstract forged metal sculptures representing aspects of drum and bass. The pieces in Rowan's collection are inspired by the history and aesthetic of Brutalism, with each of the seven works representing a musical octave and expressing both mathematical and emotional interpretations of the music.
