Robert Bakewell Primary School
Year 6 residential is complete! A fantastic week with some fantastic children. Well done to every single one of you!
Good morning from the vertical play pen!
The children were very happy to get a visit from Miss Clarke this evening! They loved their messages from home and enjoyed them with a hot chocolate and marshmallows.
A brilliant last full day of climbing, raft building and bush craft! Ready for our camp fire this evening sharing messages from home to round off a fabulous week.
HMS Bakewell has set sail!
Good morning from the last full day on residential! If you have any messages for the children, pop them down below and we will read them out tonight around the campfire.
What a busy afternoon/evening we have had! Firstly we went canoeing in the River Don (where Miss Hall and Mrs Littlewood met a watery fate), followed by a brilliant evening on the zip lines!
Good morning from Jacob’s ladder! Great perseverance and team work being displayed this morning.
What an incredible day! The children have shown endless perseverance tackling abseiling and the leap of faith. Every single one of them has pushed themselves beyond what they thought they could do and we couldn’t be more proud of them. They also managed to squeeze in some archery and problem solving in between!
Good morning everybody! A successful first night, ready for abseiling, problem solving, archery, leap of faith and mini olympics today.
The children have had a lovely afternoon, firstly they all managed to successfully make their beds, followed by some fun on the low ropes! They are now having some down time before a scrap heap challenge this evening.
Year 6 residential has begun! Quick lunch stop at Sherwood Pines for some lunch in the glorious sunshine!
The Youth sport trust are delighted to announce that we, Robert Bakewell Primary School, have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
As part of our application, Robert Bakewell were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, sporting competition held at Charnwood, national events (cross country), school sporting clubs and competitions. We also had to provide evidence that we promote a positive relationship between physical exercise and a child's well being which we do through happy healthy lunch times, running the track and our PE lessons.
Everyone at Robert Bakewell is very proud of all of the hard work of everyone at our school to help us achieve silver this year.
Sycamore had a great time creating a chamber of the heart! The heart has two features that keep blood flowing in the right direction (chambers and valves). Chambers fill with blood, then squeeze to pump the blood out. Each side of the heart has an entry chamber (atrium) and an exit chamber (ventricle). The children managed to replicate this using only a jar, balloons and straws!
The children in Class Ash are already showing great RB character muscles by being resourceful and respectful within the classroom and are great at sharing and including others in their play. We are so pleased with how well they have settled into ‘big school!'
Today’s goes to Josh and Ben. They recently had a go karting session; Josh came 1st in both of his races and got the fastest lap of the week whilst Ben came 6th on his first ever go! Great job, boys!
The new children in Alder have made a great start to school life. They have been spending time in their classrooms getting to know each other along with learning school routines. The children have also been creating different types of lines in art, practising balancing in PE, painting pictures of what they think is beautiful in the world and listening to the story of Elmer in literacy.
Maple Class had a wonderful time engaging with the atlases to find the countries of Europe. Some of the children even managed to find the population, capital cities and rivers of these countries too!
