If your goal is to improve your muscle mass, body shape & athletic ability it’s not always about how much you lift but how you lift the weight what I’m talking about in this post is the eccentric (lowering) phase of the lift πŸ’ͺ

The eccentric contraction is responsible for building more muscle mass than the concentric (lifting) phase also by slowing this part of the movement down it will help with mind muscle connections and improving technique 😎

This phase is also key for improving deceleration ability’s which can help with cutting and changing direction in your sport or helping with downhill/mountain deceleration in running for example πŸƒ

So the key take away from this post is to control the weight down when your training so you can maximise the benefits available and don’t just let gravity dictate how you train πŸ€œπŸ€›

I love to program in press ups 😎

I’m a big fan of most pressing variations but the classic press up doesn’t get as much love as it deserves in my opinion πŸ€™πŸ»

With most horizontal pressing we pin our shoulder blades together and into the bench as a lifting platform and press which isn’t how our body naturally wants to move, But don’t get me wrong heavy benching and dumbell pressing is amazing and using this technique is actually a lot safer & more effective than when the shoulder blades move more freely, which is why I love to use them with every client but I try to balance this out with a press up variation to allow the scapula (shoulder blade) to move more naturally through the movement when our arm is extending from us which can have more of a carry over to everyday and athletic movements πŸ₯Š

Also the press up is an active plank challenging the core while our body is moving creating more instability making it work harder πŸ”₯

So don’t forget about the humble press up when you get into the gym or even at home πŸ’―

🚨 Massive shout out to 🚨

Dan has lost 10kg in under 3 months πŸ’₯

Dan has made some very impressive changes in his lifestyle from sleep and recover to building a productive morning routine so he can dominate his day 😎

But one of the big changes Dan has made when it comes to his weight loss is nutrition he has made some amazing changes to his food choices and more precise with his macro’s (protein, fats & carbs) by finding the right balance and tweeking along the way he has seen significant & fairly consistent fat loss over the last few months πŸ’ͺ

This has allowed him to not only lose 10kg but also improve his energy, cognative function & sleep giving Dan a better quality of life 🫑

Starting the week off with 5miler for breakfast for me as a coach I have to live it I can’t just talk it πŸ’―

There’s a saying I love a live my life by which is β€œyour actions speak so load I can’t hear what your saying” 🀯

πŸ˜– Do you get elbow pain while doing skull crushers? πŸ˜–

If your like me when you do skull crushers your skull isn’t the only thing you crush 😬

If you get elbow pain from the fixed bar position try doing a French press instead πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

You will Get the same benefits but without the pains (depending on the issue you have) 🚨

With a bar locking your wrists in place and not allowing them to have freedom of movement this creates the elbows to be in a fixed plane of movement they may not want to be in 😬

Which can can aggravate your elbows, but by using dumbells you’re wrists can become mobile again allowing them to their job and move more freely and let your elbows move in a more comfortable position πŸŽ‰

Just grab yourself some Dumbell and do the same as I am doing in this video let me know how you get on and I hope it helps you if you get elbow pain doing skull crushers πŸ”₯
