We are delighted to invite all interested members to join us for an afternoon gathering at The Dorothy Clive Garden, aimed at those who are considering becoming volunteers. The event will take place at 3 pm on the 5th of June.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy tea, coffee, and cake while learning about the numerous benefits of volunteering at our beautiful Garden. You will have the chance to speak with our head gardener, Zdenek, and our shop manager, Hazel. They will be available to discuss how your involvement can benefit both you and the Garden.

Volunteering at the Dorothy Clive Gardens is a deeply rewarding experience. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in nature, find peace, and connect with others who share a love for gardening and community. Hew beautifully captures this sentiment, saying, "As a volunteer at the Dorothy Clive Gardens (my honest motives were for some peace and quiet!), I remember a particular visit during Covid. It was an anxious time with so much heartbreak around. After a shift, I came across a poster written by Jenny Uglow: 'We may think that we are tending our garden, but of course, in many different ways, it is the garden and plants that are nurturing us.' It was at this point that I realised what I was receiving as a volunteer was infinitely more than what I was giving."

Furthermore, Jann highlights the camaraderie and joy found in this beautiful setting: "It's a great place. It's not just about getting outside and with nature, it's being around people who are likeminded, who support one another and have some great laughs along with the gardening team."

🦉Look what a visitor has spotted this morning🦉

Tawny Owls tend to leave their nest early due to their ‘branching’ phase. Still dependent on their parents for food for up to 3 months after leaving the nest, they will sit around on the branches of nearby trees and beg for food once darkness falls.

Earth Day is a global force for good that calls for the protection of the planet through education, activism, and small, positive changes that we can all take to make a big difference.

🌎 How To Make A Difference 🌏

1- Rekindle your love for nature, and share it with others
It is only by loving something, will we seek to protect it. We depend on nature for so much, from the fresh air we breathe to the food we eat. By rekindling your love for nature, and sharing it with others, you’re inspiring protection for the planet.

2- Work together
Do your bit at home, work, school, or in your community and join others doing the same! Join our volunteer group and meet like-minded people on a mission to take action for climate and nature.

🌎 The Dorothy Clive Garden Fighting Against Climate Change 🌏

1- Carbon Accounting
Our Head Gardener Zdenek and our Wedding/Events Coordinator Meg have recently been on a course to learn how to account for the Garden's carbon usage. Therefore ensuring we are moving in the right direction to achieving a zero carbon site!

2- Our Plastic Exhibition
We have created a Plastic Exhibition to educate children on the effects plastic has on our environment and what small steps can be taken to reduce people's plastic usage.
