Today Liam would have been turning 38 but life had other plans for him. 💔

Before Liam tragically passed last February, he had been struggling with his health after going to an optician appointment following a holiday in September 2022 where he complained about his sight.

I made him an appointment in October 2022 which led to him being referred to hospital for tests as the opticians were concerned. He told everyone he had been signed off work with high blood pressure and needed to take it easy. He said he had a herniated disc in his neck which resulted in his right arm being restricted with any movement. He had a consultant he saw every two weeks who was helping with his recovery.

On this day last year, I took Liam to Leeds for his 37th birthday. Upon entering a taxi, the driver politely asked Liam if he had suffered a stroke, because Liam had a slight limp and his right arm wasn’t functioning properly. Liam reassured the taxi driver that he had pulled some tendons in his leg whilst walking our dog & his herniated disc was being treated by his consultant.

When Liam was tragically rushed to hospital, suffering a huge stroke last February 13th, we were all so baffled & wondered what had caused this to happen. We were informed by the doctors at Pinderfields on 16th February 2023 that Liam was told on the 8th October 2022 (at his first appointment) that he had severe hypertension and needed same day emergency care but sadly, Liam didn’t go to that appointment or to any further appointments thereafter. There was no consultant. No medication like he had promised he was taking. No herniated disc. No physio that he pretended to go to. He had made the whole thing up. 💔

As you can imagine, it has been a huge amount of information to process and take in. The questions all of his friends, family and I have continuously asked ourselves; The why? The how did we not know? The complete shock and devastation still feels as though it was yesterday. 💔

The moral of this story is to give you an insight to the troubles Liam would have been struggling with mentally as well as physically. The heavy weight of what he would have been carrying in his mind for months and keeping it all to himself & pretending he was absolutely fine is just mind boggling and I can’t even imagine how he must have been feeling . An absolute soldier in my eyes. 🤍

We will never know what was going on his head. We like to think he was trying to protect us all. Perhaps he was scared & in denial of what he had been told at the hospital. Perhaps his young age made him think he didn’t need to worry & maybe sweeping his issues under the carpet would make it all go away, not realising the consequences. It’s all speculation, which for us who loved him the most, is very hard to get our heads around. It’s been utterly frustrating and heartbreaking knowing he held it all in. Liam passed on February 18th 2023 after suffering a huge bleed to the brain on February 13th. 💔

I tell this tragically sad story to give an insight to why we are raising money for Andy’s Man Club.

Andy's Man Club is a UK charitable organisation described as "a talking group, a place for men to come together in a safe environment to talk about issues and problems they have faced or are currently facing". They want to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and create a judgment-free, confidential space where men can be open about the storms in their lives.

I hope that by sharing this information, it will help raise awareness to mental health & help reassure anyone out there who may be struggling with any kind of mental or physical health issues, to not avoid addressing them and know that’s it’s ok to not be ok.

Reaching out to friends, family or finding a local Andy’s Man Club will be the best thing you can do for yourself and your loved ones.
Remember: you are not alone, it’s ok to talk 👌

Liam was a fun loving, daft, hilarious and caring soul & I miss him so much & think about him every single day. The pain of his loss has been life changing but I’m doing my best to keep on living for not only myself, but for the years he has lost too.

Here are some of my favourite photos of him 🤍

Happy Heavenly Birthday my beautiful Angel ✨
Forever young ❤️
