I have had a lot of clients confessing their own anxieties about first outings, getting back to competing after years/months off, not being where they thought they would be or doing what they think they should be doing…..

Often when we look online it can appear that everyone else is doing more or better than us, everything is rosy.
I confess I am also guilty of this.
Last week I took my own new horse out for her first outing, although I have had her since November we haven’t really had a chance to get going between one thing & the other. I was feeling a bit deflated as I am not as far on as I would have liked & we are right back at the beginning again. Then the internal voice of doubt started “if she was with another rider she would be further along” “she isn’t schooled enough” “am I going to look like a complete eejit”

I had to stop & remind myself I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
I needed to take some of my own advice and “paddle my own canoe” It is my journey & who cares what everyone else is doing.

So celebrate what you are doing, whether it is trying something new, successfully loading on your own, entering a competition for the first time in months/years, managing to successfully hack on your own what ever your small wins are, they are yours.
We are all at different stages & phases with our horses so keep going, at least you are doing something!

Doesn't summer seems like a long time ago!
In July I gave my first pony club talk, always interesting questions from the kids😁
I was delighted to be team physio for the Scottish endurance team, lovely to work with team vet Beth Shaw and play a small part in the team win 🏆.
Lots of lovely horses, riders & non equestrians seen over the last few months.

I had my last show with Boss down at Aintree in August. She is now enjoying a quieter life down in the Borders. I couldn't be without a horse for too long so a new chapter is starting with a tiny TB mare called Felicity! I will be showing her progress over the next few months.Eoin is also keeping me busy with his antics!

As part of the 2023 Thoroughbred Census campaign, Weatherbys General Stud Book has launched a period of amnesty in November, meaning owners in need of updating their horse’s equine identification document can do so without incurring the £32 administration fee.

🐎 To be eligible, owners must also complete the Thoroughbred Census to help improve the traceability of former racehorses after they retire from the sport – www.ror.org.uk/registration

In January I finished my studies with Animal Osteopathy International, an osteopathic approach to treatment which has changed & improved my practice.
I am delighted to announce I will be team physio for Scottish Endurance team heading heading down to Wales in September.

Time for an update after a hectic few months.
As many of you know I have been studying with Animal Osteopathy International for the last 18 months and will have seen my practice change in that time. This has definitely been one of the most challenging courses I have ever done!

My core days are now Tuesday - Thursday, keep an eye on the FB page as I will be adding more days and weekend days during the year. I am seeing more people at my home with my treatment room up & running. This is not just for horse riders ;)

So far in 2023, I have more rider clinics planned at Glenpark Equestrian in February & at Pammy Stevenson Equestrian in March. Get in touch if you would like to book a session.

What is everyone looking forward to this year?

What a week its been so far!
It's been intense & an emotional roller coaster at times, luckily I am surrounded by the most wonderful bunch of therapists. 4 more days & we have got this!
