Weather was much kinder today in terms of not so hot, but on the other hand, very wet with all the rain. Newbury Women had 16 squad members for the local derby against Thatcham & Newbury Whites.

A game plan was set out and the ladies did just that superbly. Carly passing out from the back and the defence looking to play into midfield creating attacking opportunities whenever possible. The defence held a strong line today, something we’ve been working on in training and it paid off and held Thatcham throughout the game.

Midfield worked extremely hard, breaking down any of Thatcham’s potential attacks. At half time, it remained 0-0 but it could have easily been 2 or 3 goals up going in, but some good saves from the Thatcham keeper prevented us from doing so.

In the second half, Newbury Women never stopped and were rewarded with a fine lobbed goal from Rowanne 15 minutes into the second half. It didn’t stop there, Abby scored 15 minutes later with another fine goal from outside the lefthand 12 yard box, flying way over the head of the Thatcham’s keeper.

The final score was 0-2, but it could have been much more. In hindsight, it was a clean sheet and an excellent performance from start to finish.

The whole team played extremely well with some excellent individual performances. One of those is Player of the Match Chloe Summerville. Chloe held the ball up when needed and took players on throughout the game and came very close to scoring.

The first game of the season saw Newbury Women face Burghfield Ladies in an 8 -2 defeat despite going 1 nil up in the first 6 minutes courtesy of Rowanne.
The first 20 minutes of the game, Newbury matched Burghfield, we were all over the pitch and showed good team effort. However, Burghfield soon equalised and by half time, the score was 5 -1.
This could have been very different if it hadn’t been for Player of the Match, Carly, who also showed great distribution from the back.
Into the 2nd half and Burghfield took control of the first 20 minutes. However, an amazing goal from just after the halfway line from our Captain Cam showed our fighting spirit in the team.
There are lots of positives from the game and now, back to the training ground ready for our next game against Thatcham Ladies’ whites

First game of the season - big up Newbury!

Message from the coach: Final pre-season game ended in a 6-0 defeat. All was not lost as the final game saw the return of Megan and Rowanne back from injury, which is a massive boost for the team.

Throughout the game Tower Hill were dominant and it was a very tough game for Newbury Women. However, the defence showed quality at the back most of the match and were superb.

Newbury Women did show signs of great passing and moving on and off the ball. Newbury Women did have a few chances, but fine saves from the Tower Hill goalkeeper and denying Megan’s clear-cut chance.

Player of the match Mollie stepped up and stepped in goal and made some very important saves throughout the game.

A lot of players played out of position and I am super proud of all the ladies. In reflection, a lot of lessons learnt on and off the pitch as we move forward into the season. However, the ladies did not stop until the final whistle.

Now we rest, train hard and prepare for the first game of the 24/25 season. Bring it on!

A message from the coach: Third pre-season game against a well drilled Div 2 Kingsclere ladies ended in a 3 -1 loss. That said, Newbury Women FC were certainly no push overs in a well faught game between two passing teams.

Kingsclere took the lead 15 minutes into the game, but with shear determination saw Newbury Women level soon after with great pressure and passing from the defence to midfield and Chloe broke free to score her 7th preseason goal to make it 1-1.

Both sides had chances with excellent saves from Carly it could have been a lot more. Just before the end of the first half, Kingsclere scored again making it 2-1. Newbury Women never gave up and Mollie, nearly scored with seconds left of the first half.

Newbury’s defence were tested throughout the game, but quality defending from Player of The Match Hannie, Charlie, Sam (cpt) and Abby kept Kingsclere at bay. Newbury had chances and tested the Kingsclere goalkeeper in the second half.

Debutants Rachel, Chloe S, Beth D and Katie all played remarkably well in a tough game and matched Kingscleres midfield, inch by inch.

Subs, Nicole and Cam came on in the second and both took a hold of the game quickly and settled down and adding more pressure on Kingsclere. However, Kingsclere did get a third goal midway through the second half. This did not faze anyone and still Newbury Women had more chances to claw a goal back, but it wasn’t to be.

A few Ladies played out of position, but held their own against a strong Kingsclere team. Newbury’s passing game was a pleasure to watch. All ladies were outstanding today from start to finish. Well done Ladies, you should be well proud of yourselves!

A message from the coach: Second pre-season game in blistering heat against Thatcham Town Ladies Whites, ended in a 6-1 victory to Newbury Women FC. Three new signings, Hannie, Charlie W and Martha were all involved and excelled in their positions.

A slight uphill battle in the first half, saw Newbury go behind early on. However, Newbury fought back and finished the half 1-2, courtesy of Chloe x2. In the second half, everyone played their part and worked hard from goalkeeper to upfront in a well controlled game.

Throughout the second half, confidence grew with every pass of the ball with some fantastic goals from Player of The Match Chloe x2 Cam and new signing Hannie finished the game off. Another great performance from all the players today in difficult conditions and a physical home team.

Each of the ladies put their shift in on this hot day in order to secure a 6-1 victory!

From GK Carly to the forwards, the ladies were very composed and level-headed, which resulted in an excellent game. Confidence grew with every pass of the ball with some fantastic goals from Chole, Cam and two newly signed players, Rowanne and Alice.

Player of the match kept moving throughout, working hard and getting stuck into every challenge, preventing the opposition from getting the ball.

What an amazing performance from all the players today and I am proud and honoured to be your manager/coach.
