This “spoon feeding” lasts a few hours. Once the water in the felt pen tubed has soaked in, I keep adding more until all of the tips of the pens turn white showing that the ink has run out (swipe to see) ☝️
On this occasion, a whole packet of 24 felt pens is being used in 1 x 500g come of 100% cashmillion acrylic wool.
🎉 I’m OVER THE MOON 🌝 that Daring Greatly has won the Innovative use of Textiles prize sponsored by Her Quiet Materials 🙌☺️

The judges agreed that this piece demonstrates an unexpected feat of scale and technique in a way that challenges expectations of knitting and our relationship to it. The inclusion of the mediums of sound and aroma, as well as the artist’s intervention in the viewing process adds an intriguing dimension to the installation.⁣

Thank you so much to all of the judges Dr Sue Marks and to all those on the team who make this opportunity possible ☺️

Spotlights waiting for their artworks to light up! 🔦 I’ve been planning and reading about each of the works going into this years Open Exhibition Over the past couple of weeks. Today I was in the space with the works themselves, getting to know them in person and seeing who likes to sit next to who!

Day 21 🤷🏼‍♀️⠀
Change!⠀
~⠀
~⠀
The annual international group exhibition Ride Your Pony .club that I organise and curate does offer me change in my practice. Having done it for 3 years now I'm looking to perhaps do it in a different way. These are the invitations I sent out for this years participants.⠀
~⠀
~⠀
To be honest, these recent events have also made me think a lot about everything. I feel like making changes in my life might be a good thing all round right now. I'm not sure what that means just yet though. Since the new year I have been making very small changes in my life by trying to reduce the amount of plastic I buy and reduce the amount of meat I eat. Check out my stories to see what things I've managed to change so far and if you have any other suggestions, fire them over! Small steps but getting somewhere with them all!⠀

I've got some catching up to do for this years I've just been adjusting to what's going on at the mo and making sure everyone around me is okay! I hope you’re all as okay as can be too.⠀
Day 19 🎁⠀
Packaging!⠀
~⠀
~⠀
I try to package my artwork as simply as possible. I use materials that I have used for years and which my intern .alie_wood always says is part of my "look"!⠀
~⠀
~⠀
When I need to make a box, I use greyboard and neon orange pro gaffa tape. It's pricey tape but it's really lovely to work with and I only use it for important things! Lovely to have a splash of neon! In future I plan to make fabric bags for my knitted pieces to go into too. This here was the box I made for my Pom Pom Pyramid, I always get excited when I have to show it to someone and I think the box adds to that!⠀

Day 18 ✏️
Technique / skills!
~
~
Although I use a lot of domestic craft techniques in my work for making. I think there’s some much more valuables skills as part of my job and these past few days have really shown me that!
~
~
I think it’s quite a skill being able to adapt to different situations. Pretty much all of my work has been cancelled this week and some postponed until further notice. And so, I’ve been back in touch with some to offer a different way of doing the work rather than it be cancelled. I know lots are in the same boat, id love to hear how you’ve managed to work in new ways 👂
~
~
Also... let’s talk isolation 🤣 this is totally a legit skill for creatives to be able to work for so long on their own! I found it really hard at first and in public, if anyone stood too close it would weird me out! I’ve worked for myself since 2011 and think I’ve adapted nicely!

Day 2 ✋🤚
Hands at work!
~
~
Sewing, sanding, sawing, gripping, pulling, electronics, typing! You name it and it’s probable part of my process somewhere along the line!
~
~
Last year I did so much sanding when I moved into my new studio that my iphone wouldn’t recognise my fingerprint for a week!
~

Timeline photos 02/03/2020

Better late than never 😂 I don’t identify as a maker but there’s definitely a massive element of making within my practice since my main method currently uses domestic craft techniques. This was also quite fun to follow along during so...
~
~
Day 1 🗣 story
I grew up on a small island called Anglesey in North Wales where I did my A-levels followed by an art foundation at Menai College. I loved my art foundation, it was a great chance to experiment and I made a lot of art but was advised to study graphic design. I wasn’t sure about this but went with the flow as I used a lot of typography within my work so at the time it made sense. So, after my foundation I studied Graphic Arts and straight after got a job at a local design studio called Peppered Sprout!
~
~
In 2010 I began working as a freelance designer and co curated an exhibition as part of The Souvenir Collective I founded with .dunning and Nick Griffiths who I’d also work with collaboratively on client design briefs. I freelanced around Liverpool for design studios such as and worked a lot from home or studios on my own client projects as well as starting to teach a bit at The Liverpool School of Art.
~
~
Sadly, in 2013 my husband passed away and I decided I needed to change my routine so I began my MFA at The Manchester School of Art in Graphic Design & Art Direction. This time away and the realisation of how short life is gave me a chance to begin working in way that was more me again. I graduated in 2015 and in 2017 did my last stint as a lecturer and have been working full time on my art practice ever since!
~
~
It can be scary to change what you do, especially when it means taking a massive pay cut and not really knowing how to go about things. I’ve learnt so much along the way and have had some amazing support from friends, family and people who I’ve met 🙌🏻 the above image is behind the scenes during the itv Creates project I worked on last year. I was being interviewed and was nervously playing with the belt on my dress! Thanks .parke for the sneaky pic 😜

There’s just ⏱ 8 DAYS LEFT today! ⏱ The gallery is open 10 - 4:30pm. A friend of mine came to visit when the show first opened. She suggested I put a comments book in the space and I’m sooooooo glad I did as it’s been really lovely to nip down to the gallery every now and then and see what people are taking away from their experience 🙌🏻
~
~
Thank you Kat for your suggestion, it’s something I can keep forever and very helpful for future projects ☺️always good to get your friends in for their opinions, views and suggestions 💖 Above is just a selection of the lovely messages visitors have left behind. Thanks again to all who have visited 🥰

🙌🏻 !!! 2019 !!! WHAT A YEAR !!! 🙌🏻
~
~
Here’s some of my highlights (rather than most liked pics) from what has been an A-mazing year!
~
~
My first ever solo show 🚗 Let’s Get Stuck in Traffic, which has been a massive hit and extended for 3 times as long as it was supposed to be on as part of 🙌🏻
~
~
New studios 🥰 from the largest space I’ve ever worked in at the Trafford Centre at the start of the year as part of associates scheme, to my dream studio where I’ve been lucky enough to invite my Grandma in to help me out with knitting 🙌🏻
~
~
Artists International Delegation to Denmark 🇩🇰 What a privilege to be able to do things like this as part of my practice! Another opportunity from being a Castlefield Gallery associate as well as a member of 🙌🏻
~
~
Another first, 🌟 being commissioned for the year long project itv creates for which I was able to experiment with glow in the dark thread 🌓 Curated by 🙌🏻
~
~
A massive part of my year and life this year has been taking part in the 2019 Hothouse programme where I met soooo many wonderful people and am excited for all of the future things we have planned together 🗓 🙌🏻
~
~club No.03 which amazes me every year with such fun submissions and people taking part. RYP No.03 has also gone down a treat and been extended to March 2020 🙌🏻
~
~
Making work that matters to me and makes me happy whether that’s commissioned or self initiated, on my own or in collaboration with some really talented and wonderful people like 🙌🏻
~
~
I feel very lucky to be able to pursue my dream of being an Artist. It’s all I wanted when I was younger but got distracted with different paths and other people’s opinions. As wonderful as it all looks it’s also a lot of hard work and learning curves and I’m very fortunate to have some very talented people around me and have access to amazing support to help me along the way 🙌🏻
~
~
And so, a massive thank you goes out to everyone who has supported me / worked with me / been there for me in 2019, before this and beyond 🙌🏻 ... —>

Photos from Marie Jones's post 30/11/2019

Congratulations Frances Brookfield for the article in this weeks and thank you so much for the lovely mention 🙌🏻☺️💖
~
~
Frances has a new video out called Living Memories which celebrates 30 years since she last exhibited with The Story and Fable. Frances was the first Artist I interviews for Let’s Get Stuck in Traffic! and it was really lovely to hear her stories about when she was at art school in Warrington which is just across the road from my studio, in fact it’s the view from my studio! So I always think of Frances when I see it! 🏫

I’ve heard a couple of northern females say this now and just recently read some interesting tweets on the same subject from both male and females here... (also retweeted on my twitter account, same handle as insta) https://twitter.com/lukemcgee/status/1198203150274039808?s=21

I’m from north wales and have never seemed to pick up any accent 🤷‍♀️ and so was really intrigued when .cornelia brought this up during her interview. Has anyone else experienced this, whether male, female, from the north or south?!

Repost from

Blending in at admiring the exhibition.
~
I can highly recommend a visit to the gallery to see this (and the )
~
Marie, the artist, interviewed a few local female artists, one at a time in her car whilst getting stuck in traffic. We talked about my creative career path and it naturally swung on to what opportunities I had been given and what problems had stood in my way whilst trying to fulfil my career as an artist.
~
I spoke freely as Marie is a very calming and open presence but I have to admit, for a little while after I felt almost guilty to speaking the truth, wondering who would listen and who would feel put out or think 'that's about me!'. I'm over that now though, speak the truth, say how you felt and how you feel now and be PROUD.
~
Thanks Marie for giving me to opportunity to talk about myself and thanks for listening.
~
Also these knitted pieces are gorgeous and they hang in the gallery, covering pieces of art all made by male artists...! The gallery should invest in some female work for their permanent collection, perhaps they could purchase one of Marie's and keep it over an existing piece? That's my kind of art, that is!

The 4th and final female I interviewed as part of Let’s Get Stuck in Traffic! is .cornelia a Warrington born, Glasgow based Artist. Alice Cornelia uses Super 8, film photography and installation processes to probe the veracity of documentary processes.
~
~
During Alices interview, we discussed the differences between being an artist in a town like Warrington compared to a city like Glasgow. Alice is not the first person (female) to bring up how she’s feels about having a northern accent and living / working outside of the North West. How does where you come from affect what is expected of you? What connotations do different accents carry and how is this different for males and females?
~
~
Alices’ work was highly commended during the in 2018 and we have since met throughout 2018 on a development programme Since, Alice has had her inaugural solo show Back Now and was commissioned to make the museums library mural. This month Alice put on a group show, 5-A-DAY as part of this years and in Glasgow is co-director of (SaltSpace Cooperative), a creative network based in the historically rich Saltmarket area of Glasgow providing creative opportunities to sustain community, support and accessibility. Alice has been working between Glasgow and Warrington throughout the year. Keep your eyes peeled on this young lady for more exciting things to come! She’s s busy bee!
