93% Club UEA | Linktree Big on social mobility
Hello UEA! We have an exciting event being run by Careers Central to share with you all.
Are you a first generation university student?
Are you interested in discovering how different backgrounds can have an effect on employment?
Does a career in science, tech, media, food, horticulture, retail, finance or local government entice you?
Then please do sign up to the event on Tuesday 22nd of March via Career Central.
Welcome to the brand new to UEA society, The 93% Club!
Why the 93% Club?
Despite only 7% of students in the UK having been privately educated, they make up:
- 65% of senior judges
- 57% of the house of lords
- 44% of journalists
- 48% of junior ministers
Were you state schooled? Are you interested in providing better opportunities for not only yourself but your peers? The charity, founded at The University of Bristol in 2016, is a national social mobility network designed to represent the interests of state schooled students, who account for 93% of the population but face exceptional inequality when it comes to obtaining opportunities at university and in the workplace.
The 93% Club is a social mobility charity that is tackling the state-private education divide and levelling the playing field for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Here at UEA, we will be hosting workshops, seminars and social activities to help equip state educated students for the working world alongside socials and events to meet your peers and engage in a fun way!
Keep your eye out for our first social and like our page, The 93% Club UEA for more information!
