Well, it's that time of year again when time seems to be getting faster and faster and I find that my good intentions for self-care become more challenging to include in the day.
For many of us, we want to help our bodies self-healing abilities.
By "self-healing" I'm thinking of boosting energy, clearing stress, calming the mind, relieving pain, and more which is where reflexology can help.
Sometimes we may simply have got out of the habit of including one of the healing modalities in our life.
How do we get back into the habit of taking positive steps to improve our own health?
I started today reading an email from my qigong teacher, which included this useful information.
James Clear has written a book called Atomic Habits, in which James lays out simple and actionable “laws” to follow to help you create good habits.
He calls them “laws of behavior change.” Which I think is appropriate because if you don’t follow each of them when trying to stick to good habits, you’re going to have a hard time keeping momentum and changing behaviors.
Law #1: Make it Obvious
First things first. If you want to start or keep a good habit, you need to make it obvious. One of the ways to make a habit obvious is to use cues to help trigger the action you want to take.
Law #2: Make it Attractive
Here’s what James Clear says about making a habit attractive:
“One of the most effective things you can do to build better habits is to join a culture where (1) your desired behavior is the normal behavior and (2) you already have something in common with the group.”
Law #3: Make it Easy
James Clear says that “Human behavior follows the Law of Least Effort. We will naturally gravitate towards the option that requires the least amount of work. We need to create an environment where doing the right thing is as easy as possible.”
Law #4: Make it Satisfying
Law number four is possibly the most important one. If you don’t enjoy the process of self-healing, you’ll probably struggle to make noticeable progress.
I hope you find this helps you to build the positive habits that you choose to have.
As James says in Atomic Habits, “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
Having studied Reflexology lymph drainage (RLD) in lockdown, I am now delighted to have the official RLD logo on my website.
It is a fantastic treatment and has been used to help clients with lymphodema, and I often use it for clients who have swollen ankles, such as some of my clients who are pregnant. They have found that often the swelling is reduced and their ankles are more comfortable following this treatment.
Hi for anyone wanting to learn some self defence, have some fun getting fit, or just looking to try something new, there is a taekwondo class at Thorpe St Andrew on Wednesday evenings from 6-7.30. It is suitable for all abilities and ages I did it years ago and was surprised to find myself doing it now, but it is great fun and Tod Wurr is an amazing instructor.
I can’t recommend it highly enough!
