This year at the Nottingham CAMRA Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival we had our first Fancy Dress competition.
The winner was a chap called Luke from Kimberley who dressed as Robin Hood for the occasion.
He wins two tickets to next year's festival.
Here's a pic of Luke with John the lead singer of Murder of Crows.
Hopefully there will be a few more entrants next year to make it even more fun 🥸
Well there's a lovely bit of free advertising from Nottinghamshire Live 🥰
I think we left the pitch in pretty good condition to be fair....
Grab a beer folks, this is a long one.....
So, the Nottingham CAMRA Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival 2024 finally comes to an end for the amazing infrastructure team who turn up a week before we open and leave 3 days after we close. The last men standing have gone for a well-earned pint.
It’s been a little tense at times but nearly everyone I’ve worked with over the last two weeks has put in an exceptional effort.
I will now try and thank everyone involved in chronological order:
The staffing team who, for several weeks before the festival, collate the volunteer forms, choose the most suitable people for the jobs and then sort out the timetable across the festival. They then turn up whilst the festival is open to sign volunteers into the festival and deal with any staffing problems along the way.
Starting a week before opening, the infrastructure team get the site ready with the arrival of marquees, scaffolding, furniture, and everything else that’s required.
We then welcome the cellar team who have the unenviable task of sorting the beers, ensuring they are in the right order on the stillages and, more importantly, that they are ready for our wonderful customers to enjoy.
Around the same time, we have the cider team getting their bar ready and making sure the ciders and perries are all ready to be served.
The infrastructure team are still around though, maybe helping food vendors and brewery bars setting up; arranging the welfare facilities for the volunteers; liaising with the cricket ground staff to ensure they’re happy with what we’re doing; dealing with any issues that crop up and the multiple other “little” jobs that are needed.
Once we open to the trade and public on Wednesday the team at the entrance who hand out the glasses and tokens do an incredible job. We’ve developed a close-knit group who work with great humour and have a lot of fun with the customers as they arrive.
The entertainment team yet again booked some great bands and artists with a huge range of musical styles and even a comedian for the first time.
Thanks also to the finance staff who manage the token booths, as well as the accounts after the festival, and the CAMRA shop staff, who are some of the unsung heroes.
Not forgetting our sponsors Trent Bridge, Castle Rock, Blue Monkey, Byron’s Rest, Beer Shack Hucknall, F&F Promotional, Pub People Company, Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes and sAs Architectural Design Services.
I won’t mention names, for fear of missing or offending anyone, but suffice it to say you all know who you are, and I love working this festival with you and some of the wonderful friendships I’ve made along the way.
Aside from our army of volunteers I need to thank everyone at Trent Bridge, to a man and woman they are incredibly helpful and supportive and don’t seem to mind too much that we run rough shod over their venue for a couple of weeks!
We’ve had some very long days, and I think we’re all ready for a sit down with a nice pint of something (possibly tea) and get ready to review this year’s festival before we start again with plans for 2025.
Looking forward to seeing you all next year
Day one of setting up Nottingham Robin Hood beer and cider festival draws to an end with the main marquee nearly completed and the marquee on the pitch well in its way.
The marquees will be completed tomorrow followed by the stillages being built ready for the beer and cider.
Here’s the view from the pavilion 🍻
I’ve been volunteering at Nottingham Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival since 2012 and over the last few years had the pleasure of producing the layout plans at Motorpoint Arena and more recently at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.
This year we came up with the idea of a London Underground style map.
Here’s the result.
All aboard 🚂
Set up for the Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival is due to begin next week - peruse a brand new tube-style map of each of the brewery bars 👆

Reviews like this one make my job so worthwhile ;-)
This project is probably the quickest I've ever been involved with. Everything just dropped into place so quickly and easily. From the initial meeting in September last year to a fully finished extension by the end of June this year is quite some achievement from all involved.
"Some friends recommended we contacted Steve regarding the single story rear extension we were considering. Steve provided a fantastic service for us and we would highly recommend his services. He visited initially and took measurements etc before spending time talking and listening to us and our ideas for the project. He quickly drew up plans and was always very considerate to our requests, turning them round in quick time. Our planning application with Notts CC passed without delay. We made several changes, some of which were quite big (e.g. installing large sliding doors rather than bifolds and windows originally planned for) but Steve took this in his stride and again updated the plans quickly and to a high standard. Steve remained on call during our build phase and this was helpful as inevitable questions arose. I was always grateful for the prompt way in which he conducted his business. We have now finished the project and are delighted with the outcome."
Dropped in at Bill Lomas Motorcycles for the annual MOT. Full English breakfast while I wait and drool over some stunning classic bikes. If those lottery numbers drop tonight I know where I’ll be in the morning 👌🏻
Two more toy runs this weekend.
Long Eaton to Derby on Saturday.
Bleasby to Newark on Sunday. 🎅🏻🥰
When I’m not drawing up plans for my lovely clients, I like to get out on my motorbike. This time of year that means toy runs. We get together on organised rides to deliver Christmas presents to those less fortunate children via various charities. Yesterday was from Bottesford to Grantham and Melton Mowbray dropping off at Meres Leisure Centre for a civic reception and then Birch Wood School. It’s a truly wonderful feeling seeing people waving and cheering us along. Sorry if you get delayed on your journey for a few minutes but we think it’s worth it 🥰
I felt it was about time for a bit of a refresh of the company image so I now have a new logo, thanks to my good friend Martin Hubbard for his help and advice.

Always good to receive feedback from clients, especially when they say such nice things ;-)
"Steve is professional, experienced, knowledgeable yet very personable. He communicated clearly, did everything that was required in a timely manner and his costings were transparent. All his references checked out, so he has a robust and strong reputation. He says he will support us throughout the next stage when we actually do the build work - and I believe him."
17th Jan, 2022 Positive feedback
I really need to update this page more often. Only trouble is I'm so busy with work I don't think about it that often ;-)
Anyway, I had an invitation from a client to go and see their finished extension last week. Not something that happens very often, once the builders start I get forgotten unless there's something needs sorting.
This lovely couple had their bungalow extended last year and the builder has done a cracking job. They are delighted with their new kitchen/dining/garden room and looking forward to the spring and summer when they can open up the doors and enjoy the indoor/outdoor living.
Hard to believe but it’s 10 years ago today that I started sAs Architectural Design Services.
It’s been a wonderful journey so far with some fantastic clients and projects.
Here’s to the next 10 years 🤪
