AKA CIC - providing opportunities for people from disadvantaged, socially isolated groups of all ages in Nottingham to access projects and events to improve their physical, emotional, and mental well-being to create community cohesion.

Introducing.. Future Hustlers! ✨

For the third year running we’re looking for a group of dynamic, creative people to come and join our Mentorship Scheme, a project designed to equip and inspire the next generation of scene makers, event organisers and Future Hustlers.

We’ve gathered 16 of Nottingham’s independent promoters to share their vast experiences of promoting and producing events and creative projects across a series of workshops and 1-1 mentorship sessions, covering everything from tech, logistics, funding, representation, sustainability, access, inclusion, marketing, teamwork and creative scene making. The project will conclude with the opportunity to shadow your mentor in the lead up and during the delivery of a stage at this year’s Hockley Hustle on Sunday 20th October. Hands on experience of bringing the thing to life!

Future Hustlers will be launched as part of Hockley Hustle Industry on Saturday 28th September. Send an email to [email protected] with Promoter Mentorship as the subject title, telling us a little bit about yourself, your experience and why you’re interested in being involved in this project. There’s no deadline to submit your interest by but the sooner the better. Looking forward to hearing from you!

This project is supported by Arts Council England 🙏

Culture is integral to community and ours is at risk. Today’s cuts are tomorrow’s costs. Nottingham can't afford to pay the price. Let's make the Government listen.

Art is always political. Who gets to have a creative platform, and what are they allowed to say? Are some people more free than others to express themselves? How can we ensure all get to access and enjoy the arts?

We are concerned at warnings to limit political or activist activity for those involved with arts organisations. In a polarised world, bold and loving art can bridge divides. Controversy can spark conversations. More than ever, we need voices that challenge the status quo and offer alternatives.

Our culture and freedom of expression is under attack. Nottingham culture is under additional stress, with £198,000 - a tiny fraction of the overall local budget deficit - being completely removed from local arts organisations. This funding supports keeping creativity accessible and open to all, and gives vital seeds funding toward driving huge inward investment.

You can resist the local cuts by signing our petition linked below.

Happy New Year Hustlers! 👋 Here’s a great opportunity to kickstart the year for emerging vocalists from Nottingham..

Sing City, a free competition designed for 11-to-18 year old students studying in Nottingham City schools, academies & colleges, is now open for entries. Organised by our friends over at Nottingham Music Hub, a registered charity that provides joyous music programmes for children and young people, Sing City is a great opportunity for budding singers to showcase their talent on a formal yet supportive platform.

This year, Nottingham Music Service have announced that they’ll be working with singer/songwriters and Hockley Hustle alumni Jayahadadream and Alfie Sharp, as well as vocal coach Sara King who will be leading workshops with the competition finalists. JayaHadADream will also be available as one of our mentors to run pre-competition workshops in city schools that want to sign up for this fantastic opportunity. These workshops will be suitable for any vocalist from 11-18 who is interested in improving their technique and performance skills. The deadline to enter the competition is 19th January 2024. All entrants will perform a song at the Heats and the finalists will be invited to a workshop with the mentors. All of them will perform again at the Final, before the winners are announced!

Our friends at Acoustickle are hosting an incredible show this Friday evening 🇬🇲 🪕

World renowned Gambian musician and former Hockley Hustle artist Suntou Susso will be back in Nottingham with his kora instrument and full live band, playing Afrofunk and soul. Born a Griot in a 700-year old tradition, the Kora – harp-lute with 22 strings – is unique to the Griots of the Mandinka people. Griots have a unique societal role as oral historians, transmitting and preserving a people’s culture through the generations in song, music and poetry. Suntou’s family includes some of the world’s most well-respected West African musicians. His musical abilities are outstanding, perhaps unique for his generation. An in-demand and charismatic performer, he attracted attention as soon as he arrived on the UK music scene.

Plus support from emerging Afrobeats and Amapiano artists Riddla and Mazy and a DJ set from Lemon Eye for what promises to be an inspiring celebration of African genres.

03/11 at Metronome.

Tickets are available from the link below. Just £5 for students (Confetti and NTU only).

“Nottingham’s Hockley Hustle all dayer returns this weekend with its biggest selection of artists and venues to date since it started back in 2006. The epic all dayer has a packed programme of 350 acts showcasing the huge amount of talent and diversity of Nottingham’s live music scene spanning stages put together by 35 local promoters across 40 venues. Jazz, drum & bass, poetry, soul, house, folk, hip hop, reggae, funk, metal, pop, rock, indie and every sub-genre in between all find a place in this inclusive annual event that raises tens of thousands of pounds for local charities.

Along with street entertainment, a silent disco, samba parades, magic acts, circus performers, graffiti artists and a collaboration with Nottingham Street Food, this homegrown, independent festival run with the help of a whole army of volunteers has come to represent the very best of Nottingham’s creative arts and music scenes.”

A massive thank you to Dom Gourlay from Under The Radar Magazine for previewing this year’s Hustle.
