How wonderful is this?!!
We're honoured to be supporting Domus Solis who are relocating a whole school including the teachers, children and their families from war torn Ukraine to Lithuania. Some of the TISUK team will visit Lithuania in August to help them apply Trauma Informed Practice to support the children, families and teachers. They are an absolute inspiration for what can be achieved with passion, energy and generosity.
What a fantastic initiative! 👏👏👏 human connection is so important to our development and wellbeing.
The Courtyard Coffee Shop has signed up to join the Chatty Café Scheme. 💛
Loneliness can be a horrible thing for all generations and a little chat can go a long way to brighten up somebody’s day. The The Chatty Cafe Scheme UK is a scheme which was made to encourage conversations and reduce loneliness.
Every Wednesday we will dedicate several tables inside The Courtyard Coffee Shop from 10:30am until 11:30am to the scheme for customers to sit if they are happy to talk to other people over a coffee.
As our regulars know we love a friendly chat in our coffee shop, so if you are a familiar face or new to us and can spare a few minutes of your time, pop along for a friendly chat.
Look out for the designated tables with the yellow chatty café sign.
TRIGGER WARNING - su***de
We see stories like this way too often and it never gets any easier. Young people need more support. CAMHS need more support. Families of these young people need more support. The system doesn't work and it is heartbreaking.
So many young people don't get access to CAMHS because they aren't deemed 'high risk enough'. This is no reflection on the staff at CAMHS and within the NHS, but a reflection on just how stretched they are - so stretched that they are unable to help..
We want to bridge that gap and support young people in a way that is proactive and helpful, before they reach crisis point.
If you would like some support for yourself or your young person please email [email protected]

Did you know that our sessions can be funded via pupil premium? We can invoice directly to schools. Just drop us a message to find out more!
A common wondering when we think about starting therapy is: how many sessions would be appropriate? Undertaking therapy can be a big commitment and it can be important to have an idea of how long the sessions will last.
Whilst you can usually never really have too much or too little therapy, we tend to suggest an initial term of 12 weeks. In 12 weeks you can really establish a trusting relationship with your therapist and explore your concerns, previous experiences or goals. It may be suggested to you that more longer term work may be appropriate but ultimately, you are the boss of you and the only expert on you is YOU.
If time and affordability is paramount, we can work to timescales where appropriate and ensure that we don't open too many gates that we don't have time to close! With that said, some people really appreciate the consistency that therapy can offer and opt to stay in therapy for a number of months or years.
We always work with you and what works best for you practically as well as emotionally and if you are a parent seeking support for your young person, a timescale can form part of the contract. 🙂

CONFIDENTIALITY
Often when we look into counselling or therapy, we are told that sessions are confidential. But what is this, and what does it mean?
Ultimately, confidentiality means that whatever we do or talk about in a session remains private. For young people, it doesn't matter your age or your care status, the content of our sessions does not leave the room. We may decide together that we might like to talk to our parents/carers/schools about something that comes up, but this would not happen without your explicit consent. For adults it means very much the same. If your GP were to contact me regarding our sessions, for example, I would not be able to disclose information unless this was specifically requested by you.
We cannot expect to fully commit and engage in therapy if we don't feel able to be honest. In this way, by having this understanding between client and therapist that our deepest thoughts and feelings won't be shared with others, it can really help us to be more honest with the work and with ourselves.
***Of course, safeguarding does come into this. Safeguarding policies depend on whether you are over or under 18. However if something did need to be taken out of the room, it would never ever be done so without your knowledge. We would discuss the best way to go about it first and work it out together.
Therapists have specific training and experience in Safeguarding, and so we are always mindful of what information may need to be shared, and how to go about it in a way that feels as safe as possible. We will look at Safeguarding in a separate post.
Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for all your likes and shares so far! Please continue to share with anyone in or around Rutland so that we can offer support to those who would benefit. The more people we reach out to, the more we will be able to help members of the community know that it is okay to ask for help and you are never alone.
At About You Psychotherapy and Support, we are really grateful to be able to offer our services to children and adults within the local area. We love working with organisations to help train staff and bring mental health awareness into the workplace too. Please message us for more information!
Parents - we are also happy to work with other agencies and organisations including schools, so please feel free to suggest us to anyone else who may be involved in the care or support of a young person! At AYPS, we are different. We REALLY CAN work in a way that helps and feels safe for your children, and the biggest difference is that our sessions REALLY ARE confidential!*
*safeguarding policy applies
