Sometimes we are unable to change our situation and we may feel this particularly when we have a chronic illness such as ME, Fibromyalgia, Long covid.
However, there may be small changes that we can make, such as our diet, environment, movement, pacing, relationships that may add up to make a significant difference to your wellbeing and quality of life. Another important thing to consider is your mindset: changing the way you think and respond to situations can be really helpful in helping you to move forward.
Are you ready for change? If it feels scary, why not join the supportive online community of The Chrysalis Effect? We provide a step by step program which shows you the way and helps you feel less overwhelmed and in control.

Creating space for thinking, creativity and processing your emotions is so beneficial. The breath is such a great tool that we have that we can use at any time

"Be aware of your breathing. Notice how this takes attention away from your thinking and creates space." - Eckhart Tolle

Should you be doing more? Who says? You? other people? Society? How does this impact on your health and wellbeing. People who are driven by fear of something, such as what other people think or not being good enough may be tempted to overwork and overdo. Chronic patterns of this behaviour over time and the constant anxiety it causes, may contribute to fatigue and burnout. Similarly worrying about doing something when you are unwell can be just as draining. Is rushing around and constantly doing worth it? Ask yourself, Is there another way?

09/09/2024

Taking a moment to look around you can be a really grounding activity that calms the nervous system. The beauty is that you can do this anywhere, anytime so it is a great thing to have in your toolbox.

We love this quote!
There are some things that we want to hold onto such as hope for the future and not loosing the very essence of who we are
But Is it worth holding onto things that no longer serve us, our symptoms, problems, old beliefs?
Life is constantly changing and knowing what to hold onto and what to let go, and having the courage to do so is a true skill!

06/09/2024

When you have pain and limited energy, why waste what you have by doing things that no longer serve you, are not in line with who you are or what is important to you? Here at The Chrysalis Effect, we encourage you to explore each aspect of your life so you can consider if this is really what you want or need. There is a temptation whilst you are ill to put everything on hold whilst until you feel better. But what if there is another way?
What if you could do things that could make your mind body and soul feel better right now? What if you could regain some control, have purpose and hope right now? and make slow gradual changes towards that goal? Why should you have to settle for things that do not fulfil you and light you up?

Do you struggle with certain relationships in your life, maybe family, friends or professional? Do you feel that may be having an impact on your health? If the answer is yes then do join Elaine for this free session on Monday 12th September at 12pm for How to Transform Your Relationships in just 4 Weeks to Support Wellbeing and Build Super Self-Confidence. Hear more from Elaine here.....

04/09/2024

What is your relationship with yourself like? Do you wish you were different? are you your own best friend? Do you treat yourself as well as you would another?

Here at The Chrysalis Effect, relationships is one of the 8 key areas we focus on in our program in order to obtain health and wellbeing. Bad relationships can sap our energy and drain us. This includes how we view ourselves. It can drive us into behaviours of people pleasing or self loathing, where we deny ourselves of our needs, forcing us to do things that do not serve us such as over-working and busyness so that we do not have to look inward.

So what could you do to ensure that you have a good relationship with yourself?

03/09/2024

Be reassured, We understand that conditions like ME, Fibromyalgia, Long Covid are not all in your head, imagined or made up.

They are complex conditions affected by many things including your biology and the world we live in

The mind is part of the body and this is just one thing that The Chrysalis Effect online program explores to help you to understand and improve your wellness

Do you feel you need to do more? be more? say more? think more? learn more?
This often comes from a belief deep down that we are not (good) enough, (worthy) enough etc. This can leave our bodies and minds in a state of constant searching and not feeling safe, which can exacerbate symptoms of fatigue and pain.
But you are you, the unique one you. The people who matter and love you unconditionally know you are enough. The most important person that matters to believe you are enough is you! Do not waste time and energy searching for non existent perfection. Enjoy what you have and what you can today.
With love from The Chrysalis Effect

Many of our members report that they are now living their best lives. They have gone onto do things that if their illness had not occurred, they would not had time or cause to stop and think about what is important, honouring their needs and health.
The Chrysalis Effect Program uses a multi facited approach to examine biological, psychological and social aspects of your life that may contribute to your condition. We believe that the body and mind are a system (the brain is part of the body after all) that interact with each other and the environment. So by changing a combination of things, you create optimum conditions to maximise your wellbeing

We would love you to share who you are or want to be aside from your symptoms.
We know how overwhelming and absorbing pain, fatigue and all the associated issues that ME, CFS, Fibromyalgia and Post viral fatigue can be.
Have a little break from this and think of who you are? What makes you you? What is important to you? The more you identify with your thoughts the more you will believe them!
There was a time when I could only identify with external things such as my career, but now I say that I am Sally, a sensitive person who loves creativity, being at my allotment, being with my family and thrive with a slow pace of life. I love to inspire others, empower them and give them hope.
How would you introduce yourself?

Social isolation and maintaining relationships can be tricky when you have a host of symptoms such as fatigue and pain.
Today I visited a community allotment, where many of the volunteers said their main reason for going was to connect with others doing an uplifting activity, which although physical, also left them feeling enriched and happy. Some members said that they found social situations exhausting and draining, but by combining this with the calming activity of gardening in nature, they felt connected to the earth and others. I noticed that some members worked away from others on their own or sat resting on a bench, joining up for breaktime.
On reflection it made me realise that we often shy away from social situations when we have fatigue, pain and cognitive impairment, but there are also great benefits to have, which we do not always consider when planning how we use our precious energy. Socialising does not always have to be full on. Participating on your own terms can be extremely beneficial to your health and wellbeing.
What ways could you modify your relationships to get the best out of them?

Chronic illness, just as in life, has it's ups downs and curveballs. When you feel that you have gone backwards, or don't appear to have got anywhere, try to think of how far you have come and what you have learnt. Sometimes it is the downs, pauses or rests that help us reflect, admire the view, gain perspective, appreciate the ups or give us chance to learn new things that we did not notice first time. Sometimes, it is not about the destination, but the journey, accepting where you are and helping yourself to feel as well as you can, when you can. Thinking about navigating illness as a journey reminds me of a story Heather told me about getting lost in Edinburgh and going round and round, passing Bread Street many times. Whilst it may have been something that was frustrating at the time, they now look back with fondness and laugh at this experience and know it will become a treasured memory, an experience. Sometimes it can be really helpful to try and see an alternative perspective.

What are your thoughts?

"Pain can only feed on pain. Pain cannot feed on joy. It finds it quite indigestible." - Eckhart Tolle

Living authentically and stopping people pleasing has been key to my journey to wellness from Long Covid. I've recently been working with Su Winsbury, Chrysalis Effect Wellbeing Coach and Specialist Practitioner and she has reminded me how important living authentically is. People pleasing can be a hard habit to break when you have been conditioned by society and family values to act in one way. It can be such powerful drivers of your behaviours and mindset. Recently my body has been showing me the importance in doing what I want to and need to do in order to live my best life.
What I have learnt is:-
-Listen to your body it often has the answers. I had a lot of throat issues, indicating that I was holding back from expressing myself.
-Look at what resources you already have and use those things. They are often under-utilised forms of wealth. There is often no need to always be looking externally
-Ask yourself, "What does my heart say". Even if you you feel overwhelmed and confused, your head hasn't worked out the answers, your heart and intuition often knows the answers.
-If you are doing things that you enjoy and you value, you will create energy to attract and inspire others
I am going to spend the rest of the day being creative so that I can be calm and reflect on everything I have learnt.
What one thing could you do today to live authentically?

Today we focus on the power of the mind, the role that our perception plays on our health and wellbeing. Do you believe that you sometimes see what you want to see or that you sometimes avoid or can't see what is directly in front of you.
We all acknowledge that there is a big role to play in the biological causes and symptoms of ME, Fibromyalgia and Post Viral Fatigue. At the Chrysalis Effect we also acknowledge that the body is a system, that the brain, body and systems such as the nervous system are interrelated. We also acknowledge that as humans, we are part of a wider social environment, which can put demands on our brains and bodies. The Chrysalis Effect Program helps you work holistically to promote wellness in all areas of your life,
