ππ©βππ¨βπUTC Plymouth had the pleasure of welcoming our Class of 2029 for their transition day. Students experienced a day in the life of a Year 7 which included English, Science, PE, and a Design & Development session. They also immersed themselves in our social time, catching up with old friends, making new ones, and having a kick-about on the hardcourt. All of the students were a credit to themselves, and we are extremely excited to be a part of their journey towards adulthood!βπβ½οΈπ
π Well done to our Year 10 students who attended Work Experience! Always an incredible opportunity for students to get a feel for their chosen careers and ensure it is the right pathway for them. Our students all had a great time and secured some amazing placements! π
βοΈ Four of our students had an incredible week at Collins Aerospace where they tried out a flight simulator, segways, escape rooms (to name just a few things) and culminated in a fantastic presentation at the end of the week.
ποΈ Five students headed over to Ward Williams Associates at the Royal William Yard and were given the task of redesigning their offices. They did a great job and really impressed the team with an awesome presentation showing designs, costs and timelines!
π§ Twenty-three students went to Plymouth University for a week in their new 63-million-pound engineering building. They had mentors through the week as they navigated the different elements and pathways engineering has to offer.
π€ We have had students at Princess Yachts discovering lots of different careers including plumbing, composites, electrics and carpentry.
π Students went around with staff at Plymouth Community Homes having a go at plastering, plumbing, electrics, painting and decorating.
π
Five of our lovely girls went off to Stoke Damerel Primary School to help with their very busy Sports Week!
π We had students at Rittal and BD experiencing what two of our incredible Industry Partners offer.
πAnd some students attended Princess Yachts, Babcock, Land Registry, and a 4-day residential at Okehampton Training Camp with the Army!
π Last week, UTC Plymouth held our second-ever sports day at Brickfields Sports Centre, and what a fantastic day in the sunshine it was! π The effort from everyone involved was truly tremendous.
π This year's 2024 trophy goes to House T, who have retained their title! Huge congratulations to all the students! ππ A special mention to mentor group 8E for winning the individual mentor trophy for 2024. Well done, team! π
And a big thank you to Brickfields Sports Centre for hosting us! π
Can House T make it three in a row in 2025? πββοΈπββοΈπ

A huge well done to Finley and Alexis, two of our incredible creative writers. πβ¨ Their stories are being published in the Young Writers collection of 'Mission Catastrophe - Journeys Through The Written Word' collection of stories. The English team are very proud of them. ππ
On Friday 7th June, 25 handpicked students went on a trip to the intertidal habitat in Calstock as inspiration for the 'River of Hope' arts project. πΏβ¨ Whist there, we noted what we saw, heard and felt, and started on some free-flow poetry. This trip will be followed by several days in school working with the artists. They will be working in teams with a visual artist, a poet, and a filmmaker to create an artistic response to climate change in the local environment. π¨ππ¬
Happy Pride Month from UTC Plymouth! ππ We celebrate love, equality, and diversity! β€οΈπ§‘ππππ
UTC Plymouth finished the term with a staff vs staff football charity event. β½ The event was organised by some of our students to raise money for Combat Stress for Veterans Mental Health Charity. Students created posters during their mentor time to support the staff taking part and cheered them on throughout the game, creating an amazing atmosphere. π
Staff teams led by captains Sam (Red team) and Jamie (Black and Gold team) had a very close game throughout, and as the final whistle blew, the score was 8-8. This led to a very tense penalty shootout, which went down to the final shot and led Team Black & Gold to take the victory. π Students and staff took to the pitch to celebrate together with lots of cheering and smiles on all faces. π
A student team walked around during the match to get votes for the man of the match, in which Sam, captain of the Red Team, was chosen. π
A massive thank you to all staff and students for participating in a fantastic event and raising money for a wonderful charity. π
ππ We hope everyone had a lovely half-term break, managed to rest, and enjoyed some sunshine! π

ππΆββοΈποΈ UTC Plymouth's First Day Out on the DofE Practice Silver Award π
Our students did brilliantly yesterday in the heat, navigating their way from Wembury Beach to Riverside Country Park, covering about 13 miles! ποΈπ½οΈ
Today, we received a wonderful call from a member of the public who wanted to express how proud we should be of our DofE participants. She was especially impressed that they took the time to speak to her and answer all her many questions. This lady's view of teenagers was extremely poor before she met our four students; she said they have now changed her perception of teenagers! ππ€
We couldn't be prouder of our students for representing UTC Plymouth so wonderfully! ππ
