Hawkedon Primary School
News and Events from Hawkedon Primary School, Wokingham.
The school cricket team completed a 100% record this season by beating Aldryngton and Loddon in their final league games to win the Wokingham Cricket League again for the third year running. Well done to all the members of the squad this year. Everyone played their part in this success!
Hawkedon are double Wokingham Tennis champions! Both the Y3&4 and Y5&6 teams have won their respective events over the last two weeks. The Y3&4 team took part in an event at Shinfield Tennis Club where four boys and four girls represented the school and did an amazing job of battling through as a team and ultimately winning the gold medal. The Y5&6 team got to the final event at Cantley Park after winning the qualifier two weeks earlier at The Holt School. Two boys and two girls this time represented the school and across the two events, only lost two matches between the four of them which is an incredible effort and achieved another milestone for Hawkedon Sport
Last month, Hawkedon Athletics team competed in the Wokingham Quad Kids event two weeks ago and as a school achieved another fantastic result by coming 3rd place. The children all competed in a 75M sprint, a standing long jump, a vortex throw and a 600M run. This is the best result we have had at this particular event. Well done to all involved!

This month, both the boys’ and girls’ cricket teams have competed in the Dynamo Cricket events at Wokingham Cricket Club and we were very successful. The girls’ achieved 2nd place after winning 5 of their 7 matches and the boys’ went one better and won their event beating Robert Piggott in the final in a very tight contest. Both teams have qualified to represent Wokingham at the county finals in July 👏

Well Done to all of our Year 6 pupils who have completed their SATs tests this week 👏
🎾 Hawkedon Sports competed in a cross fit competition at Luckley House and a tennis multiskills event at Berkshire County Sports Tennis Club. These were two events we have never done before and the children involved with them really enjoyed the experience they had. The Crossfit competition included power, core, endurance and movement tests followed by a chipper challenge that our team won comfortably. The children at the tennis did a rotation of activities which challenged a range of tennis skills. 🎾

The Hawkedon Girls’ football team won a dramatic semi-final at home to Shinfield St. Mary’s 6-4 after extra-time to seal their place in the final in May. It was an intense back and forth match but great perseverance by our girls, and rewarded with the win. Four children from Year 5 also attended the Berkshire School Games Panathlon Challenge at Theale Green School. They competed in a range of activities with other schools and all got a medal afterwards which they were all proud of!

Both boys’ and girls’ football teams have their semi-finals early in the summer term after they both won their quarter-finals 3-1 against Emmbrook and 9-3 against Willowbank respectively. The tag rugby team finished their season in 2nd place, losing 7-4 to Colleton in the final. The hockey team played the Wokingham finals and finished 3rd in their group which was not quite enough to make the semi-finals. The Sportshall Athletics team competed in the Berkshire finals at St. Barts School in Newbury after winning the Wokingham stage. It was a highly competitive event and the team battled all the way to the last event and we achieved a 7th place finish. Other events that we have participated in have been the gymnastic experience at Holt, badminton at Waingels, year 3 & 4 football at Cantley Park and girls’ football at Luckley House.

💚It’s TLC day 💚
We will start at 9:00am but operating on a drop-in basis so families can join for an hour or two across the day.
The work is almost all outside, clearing the grounds and treating wood on sheds and fences.
We can really make a difference to the outside but we will need a group of about 20 or more to really rattle through jobs.
Even if you haven’t signed up - we would still love your support - come along with a helping hand at any point today 🔨🧹🧼👩🏼🌾
