It's been a busy few weeks in August with lots of activities, including our Tri-Shaw session at Hollingworth Lake. This was the opportunity for Carers (and the person they care for) to have a trip around Hollingworth Lake on one of Rochdale Cycling Without Age's Tri-Shaws. Unfortunately our Trishaw at Hare Hill Extra Care is damaged. A big shout out to the Endurance Hub, Littleborough’s cycle shop, for their friendly advice and for giving us a replacement inner tube. A great team helping their local community 😃

We had a great day today taking some of our regulars out on the Trishaw.

We also worked with NCompass to provide taster rides for unpaid carers and the person they care for.

We were so lucky with the weather and a good time was had by all.

We did seven rides in total so a big shout out for all our volunteers who give up their own time to take older people with mobility issues out on the rides.

Our passenger today is a DDay veteran who was in his teens when he took part in the landings. He told us he wasn’t frightened at the time of the landings and that he got three weeks leave because he survived. A true hero and such a pleasure to share his story.

With all this glorious weather we’ve had the opportunity to take lots of passengers out on the Trishaw lately. They love it. Many can’t get out except for appointments so they enjoy being taken around the streets of Littleborough to a nice nature spot and around Hare Hill park. Our cyclists love it too. If you see us out and about give us a wave 🚴‍♀️🚴🏻🚴‍♂️

A few weeks ago we took the Rochdale reporter Martin Hazlehurst and his dad Sidney out on our first Trishaw ride of the year to show them how good it makes you feel. We’re now gearing up for Spring so if you know anyone you think would benefit or you want to volunteer send us a message.

On the eve of volunteer week we have had a busy day, training new volunteers and thanking our existing volunteers.

Our passenger today had a very special birthday this week, 90 years young. We celebrated with an ice cream. He misses marathon running, cycling and swimming but felt uplifted by the Trishaw ride and loved getting out in the fresh air.

Fantastic News! Today we were presented with a cheque for £4,200 by Ncompass who provide support services for unpaid carers in Rochdale Borough. They chose Rochdale Cycling Without Age as their charity of the year and thanks to the motivation of their staff to fundraise in a variety of ways we will be able to provide free rides on a specially adapted bicycle to older people with mobility issues.

We are a small voluntary organisation run solely by volunteers so this donation means a lot to us. A big thank you to everyone at Ncompass.

After a quiet winter we took these two lovely ladies from a local care home out on a Trishaw ride today. They had a brilliant time. The weather was lovely and everyone interacted with us. They felt like royalty and one said they’d had the best day ever. So heart warming in these troubled times 🌞

A very special thank you to the NCompass Carers team for attending our launch event today. We are very grateful to them for choosing us as their charity of the year to raise funds to purchase more Trishaws.

So we chose the wettest day for our launch event but we still had a great day !

Thanks to everyone who has fund raised and donated to this worthy local cause and to Pennines Township for providing funding to enable us to get our first Trishaw.

It’s arrived our first Trishaw and what a great day to try it out. Roy felt like a celebrity and said he had a fantastic day. Which is great because he hasn’t been able to get out much over the last 18 months or so. Everybody said hello, even the horses.

The GBS Team from Rochdale Council’s Adult Care Team have successfully completed their 4 week Activity Challenge to travel the 1431 miles from Rochdale to Lviv in the Ukraine to raise funds for Rochdale Cycling Without Age. We are delighted to report that they have beaten their target and managed to travel 1898 miles to Lubny in the Ukraine. The team have had great fun travelling around their local areas whilst getting more active each week and they have raised over £600 for this worthy local cause. Well done everyone.
