As a therapist who has worked with hundreds of perfectionists over the last 12 years, I know youβre not alone in this β€οΈβπ©Ή Iβve been there myself, and I understand how paralysing perfectionism can be!
Itβs important to know that feeling overwhelmed is a clear sign your perfectionism has become unhealthy ππΌ
βΉοΈ Perfectionism can be both adaptive (helpful) and maladaptive (unhelpful)
βΉοΈ In the healthy range, you can feel satisfied by your achievements and maintain a balance
βΉοΈ In the unhealthy range, you struggle with chronic dissatisfaction and overwhelming standards.
But trying to overcome or eradicate your perfectionism wonβt work β
Constantly battling with your perfectionism will only make you feel worse. Itβs a part of who you are β perfectionism is a personality trait. Plus, Iβve yet to meet a perfectionist who wants to eliminate every single aspect of their perfectionism π
What you really need is to:
π« Focus on becoming a healthy perfectionist and bringing your perfectionism into the healthy range.
π« Identify which aspects of your perfectionism are holding you back and discover the positive parts you can leverage.
π« Learn effective strategies to manage your perfectionism and thrive in all areas of your life.
