Did you know we offer taping? Speak to Ashley for more info, but in the mean time here's some info.

Embracing Kinesiology tape (K-Tape) can be a helpful companion in the early stages of an injury, offering sensory feedback that's quite reassuring. Unlike a magical fix-all, this stretchy tape, when gently applied, nudges your skin and muscles, providing a friendly reminder rather than forcing your joints into specific positions.

Our muscles are resilient, and K-Tape won't restrict their movements. However, think of it as a subtle cue that can assist in preventing certain motions, like a gentle warning for a sore neck. By applying the tape strategically, similar to the attached photo, you get a heads-up when you might be entering a painful range of motion.

Why the need for such assistance? In the realm of pain and injuries, our nervous system sometimes struggles to accurately perceive what's happening in a specific area. Here's where K-Tape lends a hand, sending a clearer signal to your brain about the ongoing movements. It's not a magical solution, and we definitely don't want to limit your movements. Still, for a short period in the early stages of certain injuries, K-Tape can be a useful tool.

So, think of Kinesiology tape as a friendly dance partner, guiding you away from discomfort and toward a more mobile future! πŸ’ƒπŸ©Ή

Well done to everyone who took part in the Sheffield 10k yesterday!

Here's some top recovery tips...

πŸ’¦ Hydration - Make sure to get drink plenty of water! For most people,
we should be aiming for 2.5-3L of water per day, plus a bit extra after a big run. Popping an electrolyte tablet or two in your water will also help to rehydrate your body.

πŸ› Nutrition - Having good quality meals with complex carbohydrates (rice, potatoes, lentils etc.), protein (chicken, tuna, eggs, nuts, beans) and a variety of fruits/veg is important to assist your body in repairing the tissues that get damaged during a long run.

🀸 Movement - Our bodies love movement! Maybe going for a big run the day after a 10k race isn't the best idea in the world, but a quick 15 minute walk around the block to get the blood flowing will really help your body feel better.

🀚 Massage - A good sports massage can help to promote recovery by increasing blood flow to the affected muscles, reducing muscle tension and flushing out the metabolic waste that builds up throughout a run.

Depending on the injury, sometimes rest relieves symptoms, sometimes movement does, and sometimes it changes day to day. When suffering with an injury, it can be difficult to know how to balance rest and exercise.

Our bodies love movement, so as a general rule you want to keep moving as much as is tolerable. However, sometimes rest is necessary in order to allow the body to begin healing. The structures within the body that are causing your symptoms will dictate whether rest or movement will be beneficial. In some cases, the same structures have different needs depending on the type of injury. For example, long term tendon injuries benefit from heavy resistance training (weight training), whereas a recent tendon tear would need very light movements just using the weight of the foot itself.

If you’re dealing with an injury and you’re not sure how to balance rest and exercise, book in for a Sports Therapy assessment so that the problem area can be identified, and an appropriate rehabilitation programme can be put in place!
