Something small is coming. 6th November.
Ashton has been reunited with her beloved plush dog Violet thanks to the detective skills of security colleague Gordon from our Dundee Kirkton store.
Ashton, who's autistic, has had Violet since she was a baby and uses her to keep her calm and grounded. She lost her one day when she fell out of her bag as she walked to college. A passer-by found the toy and put her on the wall of our car park before taking a photo and posting it on local Facebook group Dundee Lost and Found. But when her family went to pick Violet up she was no longer there. The family scoured the area with torches and even looked in bins but to no avail ... and that's when Gordon got involved, searching through CCTV tapes until he spotted that Violet had been taken down from the wall by one of our cleaning colleagues who'd spotted her but didn't know who she belonged to.
The store's community champion Sam got in touch with the family and Ashton's grandma Myra and mum Shelly were at the store within minutes to collect Violet. Shelly said: "We are so grateful to Gordon; he's a hero. We were all blown away by the kindness of everyone. It just shows the power of community.
"Ashton was absolutely distraught when she'd lost Violet β she got her for her first Christmas. She takes her everywhere with her and helps her to navigate new situations. Ashton struggles to see the world without Violet beside her. She'd just started a life skills course at college and was taking Violet there when she somehow fell out of her bag. She burst into tears when she got Violet back; she was over the moon."

Thank you to everyone who's supporting our Cashpot for Schools initiative which has now raised more than Β£4 million for primary schools across the UK.
Through the campaign, in partnership with Joe Wicks The Body Coach, we're donating 0.5% of the value of customersβ shopping to a primary school of their choice every time they shop using Asda Rewards. A total of 42 schools already have over Β£1,000 of funding in their cashpots and over 2,000 have cashpots worth over Β£500. This cash will go direct to schools for them to spend on whatever they need, so will go on to make a genuine difference.
Community champion Rachel from our Llandudno store has been to Ysgol Bodafon, where teachers, parents and pupils say Cashpot for Schools is making a big difference. Juliet, the school's head of governors, said: "Schools are really feeling the pinch at the moment so we are very appreciative and grateful to Asda for this initiative. It's good to know that Asda and their customers do care about schools like us. It makes us feel valued."
Karly's beaming smile, positive outlook and friendly nature have made her a firm favourite with customers and colleagues alike at our Folkestone store.
Karly has autism and cerebral palsy and says her confidence has soared since she started working at the store 17 years ago. She said: "I always come to work with a smile on my face. Iβm happy to see my lovely work colleagues and my regular customers who wait for me to serve them. I'm happy to have a little chat with them and help to pack their bags. I have worked at the Folkestone store since the store opened. I have special needs, but have always had full support from my family and friends. I have conquered a lot of anxieties through their support."
Customer service manager Dawn, who's known Karly for 15 years, said: "Karly is so lovely; she's happy to do anything. She just loves the customers and they like her."
I had a lovely time visiting St Ambrose Barlow Community Cafe where I met Hayley and her team of volunteers as well as some of their customers.
I was visiting to share the good news that they have been awarded Β£600 from the Asda Foundation which will be spent on ingredients and supplies for their Thursday sessions where they provide a hot meal or sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, cakes and fruit free of charge for people in the local community. Some of these people are isolated and lonely, others may be vulnerable and in need of support but they all receive a very warm welcome, a lovely lunch and a safe space to relax in. Since the beginning of this year, just on a Thursday they have provided over 500 hot drinks, served almost 400 meals and 470 slices of cake, fruit and biscuits. I was delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause.

We were delighted to welcome Solihull Down Syndrome Support Group into our store to raise funds.
The funds are used for various activities ranging from playgroup activities for the younger children to drama group and meals out together for the older children. This group not only supports the individual, but the parents and siblings of children with Down Syndrome and they are always so grateful for any opportunity to fundraise. We enjoy inviting them in to store as they are always so happy and cheerful π

I had the pleasure of visiting Shirley Sea Cadets recently at their base, just behind our petrol station! I presented them with a cheque for Β£640 which will be used to provide new furniture and equipment for their recently extended base. Now that the building has been extended it means that there is more capacity to accommodate more cadets, including visiting cadets from other sites and hold community events for larger numbers. I was only too pleased to be able to support this wonderful group of young people.β Janet, Asda community champion
We are always delighted to have a visit from this wonderful group, highlighting not only the wonderful job that Guide Dogs do but also the different ways we can all support, from fundraising to parent fostering and puppy walking!
Today we had, from left to right, Wheeler a retired stud dog who has sired 183 puppies, Alex who is an ambassador dog who visits schools and public places promoting Guide Dogs and Pega who is a brood bitch who hopefully will produce a litter of puppies later this year. We are very grateful to their humans for allowing them to visit us!β Janet, Asda community champion
Here's Kevin, manager of our Kings Heath supermarket, and community champion Janet from our Shirley store presenting an Asda Foundation cheque for Β£1,000 to Pat, manager at Brandwood Community Centre, Kings Heath.
This money will be used to improve the security and CCTV system at the centre which provides a safe and secure venue for many activities both during the day and evening all year round.
Naomi from the Renewal Christian Centre was delighted with the Β£960 grant she received from the Asda Foundation which will go towards setting up a baby basics service to help support families with new babies and very young children.
The money will be used to provide essential items such as Moses baskets, blankets, clothing, nappies and toiletries and given to local parents who are struggling financially. It was great to see some of the items that have already been donated and purchased. It is hoped that by early 2024 this will be as successful a project as their Helping Hands food bank project.

I had the pleasure of visiting Shirley Baptist Church today to present them with a cheque for Β£600 for an Empowering Local Communities Grant from the Asda Foundation.
The church have a community cafe which is used on a Monday by an English Language class in the morning, as well as a Memory cafe for Dementia patients and their carers in the afternoon. This grant will be used to teaching materials such as books for the English class and arts and crafts and music materials for the Memory Cafe. It's always a delight to welcome Solihull Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs to our store, raising much needed funds and awareness of the wonderful work they do.
Here we have Murphy, a guide dog trainee, Big Dog, who goes down very well with our younger customers, and Danny , a guide dog ambassador, with their handlers. They certainly cheer everyone up on a particularly soggy morning!

I had the pleasure to provide and serve refreshments today at Shirley Royal British Legion for a group of civic and religious representatives including the Mayor of Solihull, Diana, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire.
Following a brief service to celebrate Armed Services Day, the guests enjoyed refreshments which I was delighted to be able to provide.

I had the pleasure of inviting Rebecca and Lorraine from AgeUK Solihull into store to collect an Asda Foundation cheque for Β£1,000.
The money will be used to purchase mobile heaters that can loaned out to elderly people in the event of their heating not working and to provide some elderly people with new quilts to help keep them warm. I was only too happy to help support their application for such a worthwhile cause .

Despite a very damp Bank Holiday Monday it was great to see so many people turn up for a community litter pick around Shirley Park, High Street and Parkgate precinct.
Working with Friends of Shirley Park, 219th Birmingham Scouts and local residents we gathered 17 large bags of rubbish and reported three areas where larger items had been dumped! I donated bottles of water and issued special thank you badges to the children.

I received a very warm welcome when I visited the Stitch and Sew Group at St Michael's Church to present them with a cheque for an Asda Foundation grant for Β£750.
This group provides a safe, welcoming environment for people to gather together, make friends and provide a focus for them as well as producing many items that are then passed on to other members of the community who find themselves in need of support. The group have produced tiny hats, bootees and clothing for premature babies, scrubs for nurses , sensory arm muffs and blankets for dementia patients and kits to make slippers for people who have been homeless. I really had a wonderful time with them!

It was great to catch up with Friends of Shirley Park at their monthly litter pick at the weekend and donate some Easter Eggs ready for the Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday.
This group provides many free activities in the park throughout the year for children and families to enjoy, so I am always happy to support where I am able! They work together to provide a safe, clean park for local people to enjoy all year round.

I received a very warm welcome when visiting Yardley Wood Baptist Church to present them with an Asda Foundation Cost of Living Grant for Β£750.
This money will be used to support the Community Pantry which is run by a lovely group of volunteers, some pictured below, for the benefit of local people. Items will be bought with this grant to supplement the Pantry's stock, purchasing essential store cupboard groceries, household products and toiletries. Membership of Yardley Wood Pantry is for local individuals and families that find it hard to make ends meet and aims to help people make their money go further by reducing shopping costs, providing advice and support and by developing skills. It was a pleasure to be able to help them continue with their fantastic project!

This group provides practical and emotional support for very young children through to young adults and their families. It was lovely to visit the Warm Hub Cafe at The Bridge organised by Solihull Christian Fellowship and present them with an Asda Foundation cheque for Β£740.
Andrea, Brian and Chris are part of the team that help to organise the cafe twice a week where people can enjoy warm drinks and biscuits free of charge along with board games and a good old chat in a warm and cosy space. The grant will help provide these refreshments and help stock up a community pantry to help to support people in the local community.

It's always a pleasure to have our local branch of Solihull Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs in store raising funds and awareness of the wonderful work they do to support individuals in the community.
Murphy, one of the youngest puppies on the team at 6 months old, delighted customers especially children when he visited the store. He's such a well behaved young man with hopefully a bright future ahead of him! He brought his friend, Buddy, along for a bit of help!

We were delighted to welcome dogs and their handlers to raise much-needed funds and awareness of the work that the Solihull Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs do.
On this shift we had (from left to right) Toby, an Ambassador dog, Vickie, a brood female, Riva, a puppy in training, and Delphi, a working Guide Dog, and their handlers, with Big Dog (aka John) lending some support! These four dogs represent the wide range of work that the charity is involved with. The customers and colleagues were thrilled to see them all.

I had a very interesting visit to BabyAid Birmingham to meet up with co-founder David and present them with an Asda Foundation cheque for Β£1,500.
The money will be used to buy supplies of baby food, toiletries, nappies and anything else that families with very young babies and preschool age children may require. The group was first set up just as the first lockdown started and they now support vulnerable families all over the Birmingham area, with demand for their services growing. This group plug a very big gap that isn't covered by most foodbanks and provide a vital lifeline to its clients.

I was made to feel very welcome when I visited Renewal Christian Centre to present them with an Asda Foundation cheque for Β£1500 which will be used to buy goods to support the wonderful work they do providing food donations to vulnerable individuals and families.
I met several of the volunteers who put these packs together and deliver them across the Solihull area every week The work they do was invaluable during the pandemic and now there is increasing demand for their services during this cost-of-living crisis.

It was lovely to see Pat, Ann and Richard at The Shirley Centre where I presented them with an Asda Foundation Spaces and Places grant for Β£5,000.
Despite the heat they, and other volunteers from Shirley Community Association, have been working hard to update a community space within the centre. The large room has already had a fresh coat of paint and the worn, outdated carpet tiles are being replaced with a modern laminate floor, which much more practical for this multi-purpose communal area. Next will be a new kitchen servery, which I look forward to seeing completed later in the year. This renovation has been made possible by lots of hard work and time by volunteers. The Asda Foundation Spaces and Places grants which range from Β£5,000 to Β£25,000 go towards transforming community spaces to bring people together and combat social isolation.
