We are very much a hands on craft bakery making our products the traditional way since 1967. Started in 1967 by Chris Latham at the age of 21.

Lathams The Bakers has now grown into 5 shops in Birkdale, Churchtown, Crossens, Oak Street and Tarleton. The main Bakery in Oak Street is formed of two semi-detached houses which have been developed along the years with growth of the business. All our products are baked fresh every day unlike most other bakers.

We cannot believe this post is from 2 year’s ago.
Thank you to all our customers and wholesale customers old and new for supporting us over the past 2 years, it has been a hard couple of years for us all, and it means a lot to us that you are still here with us.
Did you know we actually employ 48 staff from 14, our Saturday girls to 70, some staff stay with us after retirement age, and it’s because of all our customers we are still here after 55 years….Thank you.

We're delighted to let you know that we'll be opening the doors of our Oak Street shop on Thursday morning at 9am. Please order online from Tuesday (19th May) when our system will be ready to take orders for collection from Oak Street.

British Pie Week.

Potato and Steak pastie….
Shortcrust pastry surrounds potatoes, steak and just the right amount of gravy..
Steak, potatoes, onions and secret ingredients go into the oven to bake.
Rapid Chill.
Shortcrust pastry is rolled out to a thickness of 3mm and cut into circles.
The circle of pastry is put onto the the hand block and filling scooped into the centre, pull the handle down and out comes that pasty shape we all know with the ‘frilly edge’ or dinosaur back, as some of our customers say 😊
Cut in 2 air holes and out to shops to bake fresh every day.

British Pie Week.

Pork and Beef Pies.
We use a hot water pie pastry for these pies, it makes the pastry a little crisper which helps to encase the jelly around the meat.
Lean pork or lean beef are mixed with ‘our special ingredients’ and put into the pie cases , then lidded.
Baked and cooled.
A savoury pie jelly is deposited by hand into the holes of the pies to encase the meat.
Pastry, meat and jelly in every bite.
Freshness guaranteed every day.

British Pie Week…

Butter Pie.
This is another pie that the recipe has not changed in over 50 years.
The moreish pastry is made from all vegetable fat, the filling is diced potatoes which are peeled and diced by us, a good potato is needed so it ‘falls’ well when baking, a few more secret ingredients are cooked again in the oven,
Rapid Chill.
The butter is then melted and added, giving the rich creamy buttery flavour we know you love.
Fill the pie case and lid, the unmistakable 5 slits of the Butter Pie.
All our shops bake them freshly every day for you to enjoy.

British Pie Week

Steak and Kidney Pie.
This pie is our number 2 best seller. It actually take time to make this pie, it starts with locally sourced steak chunks and kidney, our magic ingredients in a tin and cooked in the oven.
Rapid cool down.
The stock is then separated from the meat to make the gravy.
Some of the gravy added back to the meat and mixed.
Deposited into the blocked out shells and lidded.
Baked freshly in all our shops for you to enjoy.

Potato & Meat Pies.

These are our best seller.
We make all our own pie fillings,even peeling and dicing the potatoes,and locally sourced beef.
We then mix them together,add a few secret ingredients and bake it.
Fill the pie case,and top with a lid .
Baked in our shops daily.
Freshness always guaranteed.

Good morning
All our shops are open this morning from 9am.
Our bread bakers were in at midnight producing fresh bread.
The day bakers at 5am making pies, fresh cream cakes and fancies.

Just letting you know tomorrow is the last day to get all your Christmas order forms back to our shops, they are still available in shops if you have missed them..We do offer a click n collect on our website and even a deliver service.
You can also order all your barms and bread plus Christmas treats at the same time.

As you will be aware, things are changing again today,so we just wanted to let you know how it will affect you if you're coming in to any of our shops.

We will be asking if you would please wear a face covering (unless medically exempt). This would be massively appreciated by everyone.

We still have all of our Covid measures in place from a staff point of view, with screens still up and hand sanitizer station in the shops for everyone to use.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to our friend and colleague Sue Chapman,her funeral is at Southport Crematorium at 3pm.
All our shops will close at 1.30 pm.
It will be an emotional day for all of us, Sue was a massive Disney fan, so it’s fitting we will all be dressed accordingly as we join her family and friends to celebrate her life together ❤️

Today we start the week with some terribly sad news.
Over the weekend we lost our head confectioner Susan Chapman.
Sue has been here at Lathams for 38 years, she left school and came here with Mr and Mrs Latham and only a handful of staff back then.
So many cream cakes and fancies have been made by Sue over the years , she especially loved making the Hallowe’en and Christmas fancies, and has trained many staff over the years.
The bakery will be not be the same without her.
We send our heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends x

It is Sourdough September.
Sourdoughs are in our shops today, white ,malted, olive, and spelt and honey.
We make them the traditional way using a mother starter dough that we feed daily.
They are full of flavour and all natural ingredients, tasters are on our counters for you to try and will be available in our shops from Wednesday onwards next week

We are looking for a relief van driver to join our company, this would suit a retired person we feel as our other 3 drivers are ‘retired ‘ chaps.
It is to cover 12 weeks holiday a year plus any other weeks / days that might need cover.
It involves loading a van and carrying the trays into our shops and our wholesale customers,it is an active role.
6.30 am Mon- Fri / 6.00 start Saturday.
£8.94 an hour.
Must have a clean driving license and would be preferable to have driven a Transit van before.

Good morning
Whilst most of us have been sleeping our night bakers have been in all night making todays bread ..we have white, whole meal,multigrain,cotswold crunch, donker rye,chia seed,barm cakes and subs, currant buns and our specialty sourdoughs.
Did you know it takes about 6-7 hours to make a proper tasting sourdough, and ours are so tasty.
We are proud to be one of Southports independent bakers making our bread the traditional way since 1967.

Our shops are all open.
We have fresh from the oven this morning our Hot X Buns made with either white or brown flour and packed with plump currants and sultanas.
All made by hand, and the finishing touch , the cross is hand piped on before baking.

Over the past few weeks we have come under some heavy criticism over the face covering policy in our shops. We apologise to our customers, if you feel we have been too strict with this.
The bakery and three of our shops were in the centre of the new strain of the virus, we felt it important that our sales staff felt safe to come to work, as we owe a duty of care to all of our staff.
We now ask that all customers wear a face covering, if you are exempt and do not wear a face covering, we will ask you to come into the shop by yourself as we do not have the space in our shops
to have you and another customer in.
We hope you can appreciate it can be a juggling act for our sales staff at times, keeping everyone happy and safe, plus keeping the queue moving, especially in bad weather, alternatively we do have a click n collect and a delivery service available on our website.
Once again, we apologise, and thank you for your continued support.

Mince Pies are out in our shops this week, singles or boxes of six.
We use vegetable suet and vegetable fat in our pastry and the filling was made this year by our very own Chris Latham,using his ‘Nanna Latham’s’ secret recipe.
We have used this mincemeat recipe for 53 years now, we are very proud of that here at Lathams.
Traditional bakers, good quality ingredients, we think,makes a great Mince Pie.We sell hundreds of them, so our customers must think so to.
