Dear Residents,
On behalf of Sutton St James Pre-School Playgroup we are writing to you to update you on our plans and fundraising for a desperately needed replacement building for the families and children from Sutton St James and the surrounding villages. We are a registered charity, managed by a small voluntary committee made up of parents and local interested friends of the Pre-School. Over the years many local families have benefitted from the care and education provided by numerous staff and volunteers starting from Marilyn Coleman leading the first small group of children in 1970 developing their social skills and learning through activities, 2 mornings a week. Today we are open 5 days a week with an additional breakfast club to support working parents, 40 registered families, rated ‘Good’ with Ofsted and led by a Curriculum Leader, a Business Administrator, 4 highly qualified assistant Leaders and several Relief staff. We work with other professional agencies to support children with additional needs and the staff strive constantly to improve their own skills offering a variety of experiences and activities to nurture and develop the children, preparing them for the future. We have had a number of homes in the last 52 years, a family kitchen, the Horsa Building in the local primary school, the Church Hall and finally, after 2 years of fundraising, applying for grants and support from local companies and parents, our present home, a used mobile unit in January 2001, sited on school grounds leased from Lincolnshire County Council.
Now 20 years later we are facing a similar desperate situation. Frequent repairs are expensive and often temporary, as soon as we patch one part of the building another area needs attention. Only this month we identified areas where the outer coating is peeling back exposing the timbers to the weather! Children and staff are working and learning in an environment no longer suitable for modern life and needs, and like everyone else we are struggling against ever increasing bills for heating and electric.
We therefore made the decision to start fundraising again for a more permanent, modern building, designed with the children and staff and their needs in mind, to ensure children in the Sutton St James and the surrounding district can continue to have fantastic opportunities and experiences in the future. We are extremely grateful to the Parish Council for their support in the past and are very fortunate that they continue to work with us on this project. Fundraising has been difficult in the past 2 years but we are now actively working on several projects supported by the local community. As a charity run pre-school playgroup, our income is made up solely from parental fees and payment from the Government for free Early Years places – we do not receive any support from local of central Government for the provision and upkeep of the building. All fundraising activity, past and present, is recorded and monies are kept separate from the everyday running costs of the playgroup. Estimated costs for a new building are astronomical, approximately £500,000, but we are confident that by continuing fund raising efforts with the support of the local community, and by submitting successful grant applications, we can and will achieve our goal!

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the Pre-School Playgroup now and in the past. We will endeavour to provide you with updates to the project and would invite anyone interested in finding out more about the playgroup, our new building project and the work of the committee to contact us using the details above.

The children have enjoyed using their imagination today making models using the building blocks.

The children have completed some fine motor skills today, threading beads onto spaghetti.

The children have enjoyed making their own pizzas this week. They all selected their own toppings and enjoyed eating them for morning snack.

We join the Royal Family and the nation in their grief and offer the Royal Family our heartfelt condolences today at this very sad time. We thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for all the many years of devoted service.

I would like to apologise on behalf of Sutton St James Pre-School Playgroup in regards to our Charity Bingo Night at Sutton St James Village Hall.

It has come to my attention that many of you have arrived for the Charity Bingo Night to be greeted with closed doors. Unfortunately there were no Charity Bingo Nights booked in after August.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone and we hope to schedule in some more nights very soon. We Thank You for your continued support and commitment in raising funds for our new building.
