Hello Everyone,
Well, what a contrast in the weather, it’s pouring down this morning. I didn’t realise how much I had enjoyed the lovely sunshine until this morning - and I really miss it. Although my garden is just lapping up this rain. I even think it’s smiling with the pleasure of having a drink.
I don’t really like these days, because it reminds me of what I would be doing if not for the virus. I would pop up to the club to see what’s happening, I might take a trip to Notcutts to meet-up with friends. Spend time with people having a coffee, laughing and just chilling out while the rain does its stuff. But now it’s making me sad because I miss all those things. I especially miss laughing, it’s what I enjoy to do. It’s true what they say a laugh a day makes you feel great. I said this to Barbara Gardner and a few other friends earlier in the week and this was Barbara’s reply:
“Oh Sue that is just as I feel, I miss friends, coffees, laughter. Friday I nearly said "sod it all", lets go out somewhere, then I thought of all the people who have been so good to us, it would not be fair on them. But we must be thankful that we have got a garden and the weather has been lovely. We feel we are so lucky to have belonged to the bowls club all these years and met so many nice people, as you say, natter, coffees and so much laughter over the years. It may be an old people’s game but we are not old in heart and mind. (Only a few aches & pains which we must expect, damn it). Chin up Sue, it cannot be too long now then it will be back to Coffees, Coffees and more Coffees and we will have plenty to talk about. Thank You for the lovely card, we miss everyone so much. We’ll meet again at the Bowls club, Notcutts and as Denise said she is not a one for parties but we must do something when we all get back”.
I hope Barbara won’t mind my sharing this note with you all but I think it sums up how we all feel at this time.
Another member, Kay Litchfield telephoned me after my last “Chat” to go one better than me, and that was to tell me that she not only admired her clean windows on her shed, BUT she had even washed the shed net curtains. Posh or what! Kay and her husband should have been in Australia and New Zealand this month and obviously has had to cancel, now she is looking forward to next year when they will travel down under.
I’m hoping some of you took up the painting challenge (please see how Mort is progressing below) and I look forward to seeing some of your art work.
I have been doing the quizzes that have been set, to be honest I’m not that good at them but I’ve had a go. Lionel’s was interesting as well as a quiz it was good to remember what life was like at the bowls in the early days. It also brought to mind lots of members from the past, great memories, smiles and laughter. This time at home has really made me think how lucky I am to know you all.
I’m off to do some inside jobs so that’s all for now, I hope you are well and safe and I cannot wait to see you all soon.
The Board will continue to monitor the situation and follow all appropriate Government advice and guidelines and of course will endeavour to open the Club as soon as we are able to do so. We will keep you updated.
An update from Liz Miller:
I telephoned to see how she is getting on and she tells me the drain is still working well and that it should be removed on the 18th May.
Overall she is feeling well but has lost some energy and so Frank has been busy doing the household chores, and has become a dab hand with the duster.
Liz and Frank wish to thank everyone for their lovely messages and cards.
It will be their 60th wedding Anniversary next week so on behalf of us all “Congratulations”.
Let's raise a virtual glass to wish Liz and Frank all the best!!
Any suggestions for which Club members that this might apply to....
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY BY PAM AYRES
The missus bought a Paperback,
down Shepton Mallet way,
I had a look inside her bag;...
T'was "Fifty Shades of Grey".
Well I just left her to it,
And at ten I went to bed.
An hour later she appeared;
The sight filled me with dread.
In her left hand she held a rope;
And in her right a whip!
She threw them down upon the floor,
And then began to strip.
Well fifty years or so ago;
I might have had a peek;
But Mabel hasn't weathered well;
She's eighty four next week!!
Watching Mabel bump and grind;
Could not have been much grimmer.
And things then went from bad to worse;
She toppled off her Zimmer!
She struggled back upon her feet;
A couple minutes later;
She put her teeth back in and said
"I am a dominator!!"
Now if you knew our Mabel,
You'd see just why I spluttered,
I'd spent two months in traction
For the last complaint I'd uttered.
She stood there n**e and naked
Bent forward just a bit
I went to hold her, sensual like
and stood on her left tit!
Mabel screamed, her teeth shot out;
My God what had I done!
She moaned and groaned then shouted out:
"Step on the other one!!"
Well readers, I can tell no more;
Of what occurred that day.
Suffice to say my jet black hair,
Turned fifty shades of grey!!
Hello there
I wonder if anyone in our art group has started on the project or finished it. I have made a start but because the weather has been so nice, I have been catching up with all the different jobs in the garden.
Painting the summer house. the shed and garden furniture, trimming edges of lawn, sorting out borders and digging compost heap out then spreading it on the soil, amongst other jobs.
Whenever the weather is good I can't wait to get in the garden and I certainly made the most of it. But now the weather has turned slightly Iess clement I'm getting back to finishing the painting project and I will look forward to seeing everyone else's efforts.
Please stay safe everyone and I hope you enjoyed the recent spell of beautiful weather.
Regards
Mort
And in more news from the Club ...
The club is still and tidy, it’s sitting at Hawkenbury waiting for us all to start bowling again, it’s looking great. It’s a bit spooky going in to check on things it’s definitely lacking the buzz of bowls the laughter and the “bowls banter”. There are a couple of interior decoration jobs that could be tackled when we get back to business. So don’t be surprised if I ask for some help.
