Unveiling some insights into the power of behaviour change 👆🏻
Have you ever felt like your not quite on the right path?
I’ve been there myself, transitioning from a career as a plumber to becoming a personal trainer. It’s been a bit of a journey, but I thought it would be nice to share some insights into some of the work I am doing at the moment for my clients.
I used to imagine what it would be like to change lanes and start something new, whether that is a career change or a lifestyle change.
My BIG tip… just start.
Just make your first step.
It doesn’t matter how insignificant you think it might be.
Trust me.
You just need to start and you will be amazed at how far you can go.
4 years ago, I quit my job as a plumber.
I also quit 1 and a half years into my advanced plumbing qualification.
Fast forward to today and I am full time in a career I love with energy to burn!
Make your first step and if you need any advice in regards to your health and fitness, just reach out!
Wondering why you might feel the urge to snack and/or crave certain foods 🤔
When we don’t catch enough 💤 our body cranks up the ‘I’m hungry’ hormone (ghrelin) and dials down the ‘I’m full’ hormone (leptin).
Making us crave those potentially unwanted snacks.
Plus, our brain pushes us towards those comforting, high-calorie treats.
More than just not feeling like you have a lot of energy.
Cutting back on sleep can seriously confuse our appetite.
Swipe to find out how getting enough sleep can help support you in your weight loss journey!

Progress Alert🌟
A huge round of applause to for her incredible dedication and hard work in her training journey over the last few months!
Having had the privilege to support Zoe for about 3 years, it’s been truly inspiring to witness her transformation from our initial lockdown zoom sessions to where she is today.
And not to forget celebrating a significant milestone—completing her first CrossFit open at 🏋️♀️
Zoe, you’ve achieved so much growth in the past few years, and I’m so excited to see what’s up next!

“To adopt something new, one must learn to set aside something old.”
I understand the need to evolve and redefine my current identity to achieve my aspirations, which, at this moment, is to become a fitness educator.
I want to give to you guys the knowledge I have and will continue to learn so you can develop and grow in your own health and fitness journey.
My new identity has these statements in mind:
I love learning.
I love educating.
I love helping.
I love planning content.
I love being creative.
Consider these principles for yourself:
1. Identify WHY your goal is significant to you.
2. Understand WHAT actions you must consistently do to work toward your goal.
3. Detail WHO you need to evolve into to turn this ambition into reality, rather than a fantasy.
PS You’re going to get s**t wrong. Look silly. Have people laugh or take the p**s. F**k em. You know why you’re doing it.
“Overall, it’s really well structured!”
Happy to be hearing these words from one of the new members of NxLifestyle!
Mayur has settled in well and we’re stepping into phase two now where we will be narrowing in on his first few hurdles, which are:
Energy Increase⚡️
&
Movement Development 🏋🏻♂️ 🏃🏻
Looking forward to next week’s ‘LFG Momentum Session’ where we will be mapping out the next 12 weeks 🚀
My 5 Top Tips for Upgrading Your Nutrition 💪🍏
1. Increase Protein 🥩
- This has to be the single most important one for me, it’s a way of organising your nutrition so that you can think about adding something in vs taking something out. The reason why, is because protein is the most satiating food (the food that makes us feel the fullest). So, by prioritising protein, you can almost sort out some of the other areas (overeating, snacking, feeling hungry, fatigued, tired, recovery).
2. Eat More Whole Foods 🌱
- Simple but challenging at times BUT there is a solution here, I have given an example in the picture above but use a system like the one shown, think about ‘upgrading’ your foods up the continuum of heavily processed to less processed.
3. Review Your Environments 🏠
- I know it sounds silly but think about it. Let’s take your kitchen for example, or my kitchen for a better example, around Christmas there are always Lindt chocolates and I eat them because they are there. However, do I think about eating Lindt chocolates when they are not there… nope. Audit your environments and perhaps start with your kitchen, get rid of the s**t that isn’t serving your long-term goals.
4. Movement Matters (NEAT) 🚶♂️
- Small changes in your daily movement go a long way. Take my dad for example, at the start of the year he decided he wanted to start losing weight, he wasn’t ready for the gym but thought he would start walking. He was averaging around 15,000 steps a day and he is also in a sedentary job BUT doing this over the first 3 months of the year and he’s down well over a stone. Shout out Mike!
5. Quality Sleep & Stress Management 😴
- Your foundation to everything else - Sleep. I can’t stress enough how important it is to get your sleep in check, there are many things to talk about but a simple one is are you getting between 7-9 of ‘good quality’ sleep. If not, then I would suggest thinking about creating a bedtime routine where you start to wind down before bed.
Quick fire points today team and I hope these have at least sparked a little fire for you guys to start to make steps in the right direction!
“I feel like my mindset has completely shifted.”
Now, hearing these words for one of the new members coming into NxLifestyle is 10/10!
I can’t thank Hannah enough for being a pretty perfect client in the early stages.
She’s been energetic, patient and has settled to a point where we can now branch out into the next key area…
And I can’t wait 🚀

Happy ‘Sunday Runday’ 🏃🏻
"Tom, work was mental today, I didn't stick to the plan."
Or
“Lunch didn't quite cut it today, I didn’t prep anything, so I had to settle for a meal deal.”
These scenarios? Familiar territory with a lot of my clients and myself when I first started out.
We've all been there, caught up with just ‘life’ stuff and then feeling that chaos seep into our eating habits.
It's a slippery slope, one that I've navigated myself and helped my clients to overcome.
The biggest realisation here is that without careful time management, it's all too easy to fall back into old patterns.
At NxLifestyle, we're all about empowerment, guiding you toward reclaiming control.
Enter: Purposeful Nutrition💪🏻
I work with my clients to reshape their narrative, guiding them towards a more intentional way of living.
Imagine this: waking up refreshed, fuelled, and ready to tackle the day head-on, versus feeling groggy, rushed, and reliant on quick fixes to get through. It's a transformation that is a no-brainer.
So, how do we get there? Here's a glimpse into my approach:
1️⃣ Awareness: Let's tune into your eating habits, recognising when you're eating out of habit or emotion, rather than true hunger.
2️⃣ Structure: We'll establish a framework for your days and weeks, from grocery shopping routines to meal prep schedules, ensuring your set up for success.
3️⃣ Plan: It's all about intentional meal planning, crafting balanced meals that fuel your body and align with your goals.
4️⃣ Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Embrace each step forward, even if there are hiccups along the way. Progress is progress and the only way to create any form of change is through action. So, we just need to start and now your next step.
Drop a 🥑 in the comments if you're ready to shift from chaotic eating to purposeful nutrition!
Use this simple tool to start losing weight now!
Here is a simple example of how my client is getting herself into a great position to:
START LOSING WEIGHT🎯
& SEEING WINS🥇
Goal: Lose body fat to fit into her old clothes by spring
Skill: Eat well consistently 🗓️
Practice: Prep her meals 🍽️
Daily Action: Make Breakfast/Lunch to take to work with her ✅
1. We spoke about what she needed HELP with
2. What she needed from me
She knew ‘how’ to cook
She knew ‘what’ to cook
She didn't know ‘WHEN’ to cook >>> *💡* Food prep as a focus for us to work on...
The process we went through:
1️⃣Schedule breakdown
2️⃣Input into a calendar
3️⃣Note down 'WHEN' she had time to prep
4️⃣Set alarms into phone for reminders (both me and her, that way I could check in to see how she was getting on)
Me - "Food prepared?"
Client - "Yep. All done in the fridge 🙌🏻🙌🏻!"

Here's A New Way Of Thinking To Create Unstoppable Momentum With Your Weight Loss... 🚀
To start with...Motivation is Unreliable ❌
It comes and goes
You need to think less about Motivation and more about... ACTION 💥
The more you act
The more feedback you get
The more this creates MOMENTUM 📈
Which means... The more 'MOTIVATED' you will become
To create more MOMENTUM, you need to have the right:
- Skill
- Practice
- & Daily routine to help yourself take ACTION.
You can rely more on your 'WISE' thinking and planning
And less on the 'IN-THE-MOMENT' decisions
Cue >>> 'Skill - Practice - Daily Routine'
For example:
You want to lose weight, let's say 5kg. A way of thinking or going about it might be as follows:
1️⃣A skill I need to learn is - Eat more nutrients
2️⃣A practice might be - Eat more protein
3️⃣A daily routine might be - Eat 'X' palms of protein everyday
Or
You want more energy at the start of your day
1️⃣A skill I need to learn is - Get more sleep
2️⃣A practice might be - Set a sleep bedtime/target
3️⃣A daily routine might be - Determine when you need to go to bed to get the required amount of sleep
Drop a 'like' or 'comment' if the 'Skill - Practice - Daily Routine' structure helps!
Or hit ‘SAVE’ 👈🏻
You're not lazy! Here's why you've been struggling to stay consistent...
Let's explore some common mistakes that may be holding you back from making progress.
1️⃣ Unrealistic Goals: Sometimes we set goals that are simply unattainable in the time frame we have set.
Solution - Set a direction and get excited about the small steps that will lead down the right path.
2️⃣ Lack of Support: Having a strong support system is essential to achieving your goals.
Solution - Seek out the right coach or community that can help you break through your barriers.
3️⃣ No Plan: Wishing and hoping for something to happen won't get you anywhere.
Solution - Ask for help... With the right support, create a daily action plan to get you moving towards your goals.
4️⃣ Negative Self-Talk: Doubting your abilities can hinder your progress.
Solution - Start a gratitude practice or write down your wins every day to reinforce positive thinking.
5️⃣ Focus on the Big Goal: Sometimes the big goal can be overwhelming.
Solution - Take imperfect action and start acting in accordance with who you want to be. The key is to keep moving forward and creating momentum.
Remember, progress takes time and effort. Don't be too hard on yourself, and don't give up!

There are so many delicate steps that each person takes.
There is no 'ONE SIZE FITS ALL' approach to the coaching process.

YOU HAVE UNIQUE OBSTACLES

Want to lose fat and build muscle? Say hello to 'Ms PROTEIN' 💪🏻
Here's WHY you need to be thinking - ‘Do I eat enough?'
Protein is an ESSENTIAL nutrient. This means WE NEED it.
It has many roles:
1. Protein helps make many hormones 🧬
This includes hormones that manage appetite, balance blood sugar, and support feeling happy and relaxed
2. Protein supports the immune system 🦠
Without enough protein, we easily become sick and frail, and recover slower
3. Protein improves body composition 💪🏻
It helps shed fat, gain or maintain muscle mass, and stay lean for life.
4. Protein is physically satisfying. You'll feel fuller, longer 🛑
This is important if you're trying to eat less in order to lose fat. Eating more protein means feeling more satisfied with meals, and less hungry between meals.
5. Protein helps build and repair almost every tissue in the body 🫶🏻
Muscles, connective tissues (such as tendons and ligaments), and bones
Simply put...
More protein means:
1️⃣Better recovery
2️⃣More muscle
3️⃣Less fat
4️⃣Stronger & healthier body < WHO WOULDN'T WANT THAT?
Regardless of your goals, you NEED to have a solid intake of protein.

How I Started My Training Journey
“Its probably not too dissimilar to yours”
What's the back story?
Well to start with... I wasn't in the gym at 16 lifting weights and finding my inner Arnie
I was a Football lad
From 4-19 years of age and I loved it!
However, 19-21ish I didn't do too much. The picture you see was actually me when I went to Thailand with some friends...
I actually came back from that trip, and someone said I looked a little, let's say, 'bigger'
I couldn't remember the exact word, but I do remember seeing it and thinking, 'This isn't me. I used to be fit. Hard-working and loved training when I was playing football’
This made me rethink 'Who am I now?' & 'Am I happy with my overall health and fitness?'
Dont get me wrong, at the time, I wasn't thinking this; its only when I saw this photo that I didn't like what I saw and something had to change
It made me think, 'I want to be more and take care of myself in a better way.’I had been drinking, enjoying nights out, visiting mates at Uni and doing drugs... '
This photo simply grounded me and made me think 'Who do I want to really be?'
Enter Mercure Gym & The London Marathon
I dabbled with some weights, but mostly I did circuits, HIIT training and ran
I signed up for the Marathon for a challenge, I needed to focus on something.I needed a GOAL.
I liked HIIT because it was easy, simple and effective
It got me into the gym
I came back 2/3 x week
I enjoyed my training in this way (Cue to future Tom to remember to ENJOY your training)
P.S. I didn't lift weights because I thought I would get bigger and heavier = Making me slower… How silly lol

I would love to hear if you are struggling to find your reason to start training as I would love to help!
“Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change."
To summarise, I was feeling:
Trapped in my job
Blinkered with my thinking
& Ultimately lacked purpose
I'll break each one down...
Trapped in my job - I felt like I was going deeper and deeper down a hole that I didn't know I wanted to go down (I was a plumber, and no, dont ask me to fix your taps...)
Blinkered with my thinking - I was unaware of how my characteristics and skills were transferrable to other careers or industries, and this caused me to doubt my potential.
Lacked purpose - I was moaning a lot more, surrounded by the wrong people at work, and I was complaining about my situation, but yet I was doing nothing to actually change it (Sorry, Jessie, for this period)
This leads me to:
1. Change roles within the plumbing industry
I took a job working in London on site (Imagine commuting with your tools and drills, you've seen those people, and I bet you think, 'F*ck that!')
2. Further my education within plumbing (I know, I decided to go even deeper into an industry I was already second-guessing)
3. Read my FIRST book since leaving school - Mindset, by Carol Dweck
This book took me a year to read and changed my thought process forever. Thanks Carol.
4. I signed up for the London Marathon with
This is exactly what I needed to get me back on the right path... I also owe a lot to our conversations on those Friday nights, Dan!
A couple weeks before the Marathon
5. I am 3/4 of the way through my 2-year Course to become a gas engineer & I quit, and I left my job...
Smiles all round 😁
6. After several months of:
Thinking
Worrying
& piecing in work where I could I decided to sign up for my Personal Training qualification in December of that year... 1 month later, I was a Level 3 Qualified Personal Trainer.
That's where it all started, there's more to it, but you get a rough idea

Hey Team,
I know I have been a little inactive of late. However, I am working hard behind the scenes. It's just taken me away from some areas, as my focus has been on the clients within the community and general business development.
On a slightly more positive note, I am asking a favour from you guys and gals…
If any of you have had a session with me, been trained by me or have seen me coach or even talk about coaching and my profession, all I ask is that could you please write and review me on google. (A 5-star review would be welcomed here ☺️)!
It would go a long way in helping me develop and grow my business and potentially reach more people who could benefit from my services.
Just think, would you want someone like myself to be able to help someone who you know, someone who you love and someone who you care for? If so, I would be so grateful, and when you write a review, I will personally thank you!

Fitness ‘freak’
A term used sometimes or at least one I’ve heard from time to time…
Am I a freak for loving a certain lifestyle?
Am I a freak for caring about my physical and mental health?
Am I a freak for wanting to challenge and better myself in order to be the best possible version of myself?
A freak it is…
To all those fitness freaks out there ❤️👈🏻
There’s nothing wrong with finding your groove in life, respect to the ones who are getting after their’s 🤙🏻

145 reps in the baaaaag

Shoutout to anyone and everyone giving it a go this weekend, have fun and enjoy!
Onto the next 🤙🏻
Gym Confidence…
This has been a massive theme since starting my job as a coach. I've heard many people tell me that they simply want to walk into a particular area of the gym and not feel; out of place, scared, not welcome, alienated, self-conscious, anxious, the list goes on.
However, during my short time as a coach, I've noticed that people grow in CONFIDENCE when they're more COMPETENT. This is a small portion of what builds confidence, both inside and outside of the gym but feeling like you can:
* Execute a specific lift correctly is HUGE
* Lift the weight with the correct form and know you won't hurt yourself
* Move in the gym with conviction
* Have a game plan as to WHAT you're training
* Having the backing of a Coach, to know you have someone to rely on and work with
A big shout out to for developing her gym confidence and overcoming some initial fears; you're doing incredibly well!
Many people are apprehensive about training, be it in any form of physical exercise.
Bridge that gap and ask for advice, help or support from someone who you can trust, make that first step and start a conversation.
Turn CHAOS into ORDER and move onto the following CHAOTIC situation; it's a process that continues as you grow.
Negative self talk
‘I can’t do that, I don’t know what I’m doing’
‘I will feel embarrassed, I don’t know how to’
‘They’re doing so well, they are working harder than I am’
‘I’ll never be able to reach that point’
What is it?
It's pretty self-explanatory, but when our internal dialogue starts to magnify the mistakes or faults in the situations within our lives that can relate to working, how we look, how we perform, social interactions etc.
This internal dialogue can have a negativity bias, our tendency to enhance the bad within a situation again.
This week saw a conversation creep up, both in person and through a check-in with a client - 'I thought to myself, am I even the right person for this, like, I'm confused. I doubt my ability at times and then start comparing myself to other people?'
This is from somebody I have had the pleasure of working with for a relatively long period now, over 6 months. It's not something to be confused about, it's within our nature to feel these emotions and to hear those voices, but I would argue, are we doing enough to fight that internal battle?
We need to deal with this but not let it dictate how we live our lives.
We must pay attention to when those situations arise, which is precisely what I told his person.
* We MUST show compassion towards ourselves.
Think about how you would treat your friend, colleague, partner or family member. Would you talk to them in the same tone or light as you talk to yourself? Then why would we let this voice run the show within our own lives?
Start to show yourself COMPASSION, RESILIENCE, OPTIMISM AND LOVE because you are capable of so much more than you think.
If you're struggling, I urge you to look at how you speak to yourself. Listen out for that voice and argue back; show yourself how worthy you are of achieving whatever you wish and how you hold the authority within the situation.
As always, let me know if you need a chat, message, friend, coach; I'm always about it!
Also, you know who you are, and I am so proud of what you've achieved; highlight ALL of those F*cking wins and continue to move forward in your progress!
Weekly review
Trying to look at this as a chance to see the opportunities I have taken action on, learned from and magnify the positive development the week has given me.
A couple of standout elements from this week would be:
- Fixing the new Pulley system in the gym after getting too excited and not getting frustrated at the fact that it has happened
- Capping off a successful 6 week training cycle with and everyone who got involved, credit to them for starting the year off on the front foot
- A great start for some of the newer members within the NxLifestyle Community
- Taking the time out to realise when rest was needed and to see the longer picture rather than a single day
- Hearing and listening to the community find new levels within their own confidence but also reflecting and collaborating on ways in which they can find new depth and move forward within their lifestyles 👊🏻
Onwards and upwards for this week, a big shoutout to everyone who is working on themselves and taking the time out to put their individuals needs first because you cannot pour from an empty cup ☕️
Picking myself up after a groggy last 24 hour ☝🏻
Overworked, Overtrained, an illness, or perhaps it was just something I ate?
Last night and this morning saw me start feeling slightly ‘off’, I ended up cancelling todays PT sessions and dropping out of some team training with the sQUAD for next months event…
I struggle to sit still, not have something that I’m constantly doing BUT this was most definitely the right decision to take.
When you’re feeling ill or have come down with something it’s always best to rest up, recover and go again when your back to full fitness.
I guess there would be a mis conception whilst training when being ill -
‘I’ll just sweat it out’ might be a favourable one but allow the body to fight that infection, work on the stressor that it’s already trying to fight rather than compounding on that already difficult infection 🙌🏻
Saturday, I see you 🤙🏻
'The biggest competition that we have is against ourselves'
This topic cropped up in a conversation with a client his week.
They've been on a journey that physically started around 2 years ago, and ever since then, they have been absolutely flying. Stepping into different areas of discomfort, overcoming other personal goals, dealing with a lot both inside and outside their training…
But this week, they felt themselves being overcome by negative self-talk, comparing themselves to their peers. We talked, and we discussed that this is THEIR journey, THEIR story. It's not anybody else's, so you need to own it!
We need to remind ourselves and train our minds to think in favour of where we want to be going:
* Are we speaking in a positive light?
* Are the thoughts that arise serving us in the right way?
* Do you see yourself congratulating your peers in their accomplishments yet disgracing your own achievements?
Think about the way you speak to yourself, we all do it, we all have that inner voice 💭
Try to practice positive self-talk and learn to love yourself a little more; it's the key to developing your potential. Think about the following:
* Are you bigging yourself up as you would for the people you care about?
* Do you have the right network of people around you to aid in that process?
* Big or small, notice those wins that you're having on both the good and the bad days ❤️
If you're ever in need of some help or advice, drop me a message 🙌🏻
Social Support Network - The Missing Link
Today prompted me to think about this topic, I’ve recently been going through .mindflex.dr Psychological Fitness Series and its been great, eye opening, but packed with relevant information and todays topic was this exact one.
Ive had a couple of scenarios in the last few months and even more so recently, in the past few days, where I am thinking more and more about WHO I’ve got around me and HOW the dynamic of those relationships are either serving me or perhaps aren’t serving me.
For me, as a coach, Im looking to help build a community of like-minded people, yes, this is probably said a lot but its true. I do truly mean it when I say those words. I want the type of clients, coaches, friends, colleagues around me who I know I can count on but who also know that they can count on me. I want to feel inspired by the lives im able to impact on a daily basis just as much as I want to see everyone else get rewarded for their hard efforts and the cycle goes around and around!
This is about having a community who can build each other up.
Support one and other in both the good times and the bad times.
Take a moment to think about your support network.
- At home
- In your relationships
- Where you train
- Who trains you
- Where you spend your time on socials
If it isn’t serving to you, then perhaps its time to make some changes or act on the relationships you do have!
Shoutout to:pfca for teaching me how to be a great coach and give me the push I need!
COMMUNITY, you are all unbelievably inspiring to me!
team, thank you for the support, laughter and experience during my first couple years as a coach! .fitnessss .shults
.pt and the other coaches who I’ve been so lucky to meet and connect with, a lot more to come!
Get the right people around you and I’m sure you will see a huge shift in the perspective you have on yourself and your potential!
