A huge welcome back to the lovely Sophie and Darren, and Mum and Dad, for their annual Fish and Chips Afternoon Tea. It’s so lovely to see you again!
Sophie and Darren held their wedding reception here at H&B back in 2021, and like all our wedding couples had their complimentary first anniversary meal with us a year later.
It’s now become a bit of a tradition and we love welcoming them all back every year!
It’s Yorkshire Day! What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire?
Today we welcomed one of our smallest weddings, with just four guests. Congratulations to the happy couple, and we wish you a lifetime of love, happiness and fun together.

He's fledged! A few weeks ago we shared with you a photo of little Rizaac, the gull born on our Harbour Room roof. We are so pleased to tell you that he has been successfully reared by mum and dad, and he has now fledged! We didn't get a photo as he caught us a bit by surprise as this is the first successful rearing our breeding couple have had - (their young have always perished before fledging).
Rizaac has learnt to fly, and has now left his home here at H&B. Love or hate them (they are quite controversial it would seem) but we can't imagine a British seaside without the sound of the gulls. And we know somewhere in the sounds of the birds of Whitby, will be little Rizaac's voice!
It’s summer!!! And that means only one thing - strawberries 🍓🍓🍓🍓 Our special scones today are strawberry scones. Be quick these beauties won’t be here long!
A gorgeous day in Whitby, a great way to to make it even better - today’s special scones are Chocolate Chip!
Our famous traditional Afternoon Teas can be ordered for collection. Perfect for a cottage stay! No minimum order, so whether you enjoying a romantic break for two, a family holiday, or a hen party, our Afternoon Teas the perfect treat!
It may not be a sizzling summer so far, but don't worry, our delicious hot chocolate is a perfect way to keep the chill out!
Our lovely Sarah has been working her magic again and today's amazing scones are Cherry Bakewell Tart inspired! Just perfect to brighten up your day!

Wow! This week we were chosen by Theo Paphitis (Dragon's Den) as his selected weekly business for Small Business Sunday!
He kindly retweeted us on his social media (with over half a million followers!) to give our small independent business a huge profile boost! We're also now profiled on the website https://www.theopaphitissbs.com
Small business champion and Ryman Stationery, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Chairman, Theo Paphitis, said: “We are thrilled to welcome new members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK. My vision is that everyone who has ever won an re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish Hetty and Betty every success.”
We are so looking forward to meeting Theo at one of the exclusive events laid on for winners!
We're still on cloud nine about winning the award. Thank you The Small Awards for such an amazing evening!
Thrilled to see our 'At Your Service' 2024 winners Hetty and Betty Restaurant & Wedding Venue, Whitby featured in York Press, and many other local and national publications!

We’re back‼️
We will be back open today following the disruptive power cut on Baxtergate yesterday.
We’re looking forward to getting back to what we do best and welcoming all of our lovely customers today. 😊 See you from 10am
And the power cut continues on Baxtergate. Sadly it means we will not be opening today.
Huge shout out the Pirate Ship taking passengers across the Harbour, due to the bridge being stuck open.

Edit: We are turning off commenting for this post as some of the comments have turned into a debate about the existence of the gulls. We believe in trying to run our business harmoniously with the coastal wildlife. We understand people have different views and experiences with the gulls, but this post was to explain why our skylights are not looking their best, and to introduce little Rizaac. Thank you all for your input.
It's that time of year again when the skylights in our Harbour Dining Room are looking a little untidy - but we have a good reason! Meet Rizaac, the sweet little baby gull, who is currently resident on our roof. (He's named after two of our kitchen team - Ross & Izaac).
Unfortunately, his residence does mean our poor window cleaner cannot clean our skylights, partly because we must not disturb the nest, but mainly because Mummy gull is likely to dive bomb him if he tries!
In a few weeks little Rizaac will fledge and we will be able to get the skylights up to their usual gleaming standard. We're keeping everything crossed that he will survive and fledge, and all is looking well at the moment. However, we have seen our breeding pair be unsuccessful to raise their young in their last few years, but we are staying hopeful.
