Would it be great to put the BOOK back in World Book Day? Do you feel that it's become more about dressing up, than encouraging a love of books are reading? What are your thoughts? Here's a poem by Julia Donaldson for you to enjoy...
I opened a book and in I strode
Now nobody can find me.
I’ve left my chair, my house, my road,
My town and my world behind me.
I’m wearing the cloak, I’ve slipped on the ring,
I’ve swallowed the magic potion.
I’ve fought with a dragon, dined with a king
And dived in a bottomless ocean.
I opened a book and made some friends.
I shared their tears and laughter
And followed their road with its bumps and bends
To the happily ever after.
I finished my book and out I came.
The cloak can no longer hide me.
My chair and my house are just the same,
But I have a book inside me.

This question from an 11+ verbal reasoning practice book caused a bit of confusion during a session recently. What do you think made it difficult for my learner to answer?
I often come across published questions that make this particular assumption about children's knowledge and it's becoming a bit of a pet peeve!
If you are considering finding a tutor for your child you’ve likely come across several different services. It can be hard to know whether one to one tutoring or small group sessions would be the most beneficial to your child’s individual needs and goals.
In this new blog post, I’ll compare the main differences to help you find the perfect option.

Nothing makes my day more than receiving emails like this after just 3 sessions with a child…
"Just to feed back that they got 4 out of 6 in their spelling test this week, which is an amazing achievement for Z! We also had a phonecall from their teacher this week, who told us that Z has over the last few weeks started to enjoy English much more at school and is focusing much better. Thank you for all your hard work, it’s been lovely to see the impact on Z in just a small space of time."
I am honoured to work with amazing kids like Z here. They have neurodiverse learning needs and weekly spelling tests at school have been causing anxiety. When they come to me, they enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the cabin and the creative activities we do together to support learning new spellings and improving handwriting - at their pace.
P.S. - Want to get tutoring that is tailored to your child's needs too? Drop me a message and we can arrange a free chat :-)
