Cervical screening saves lives! This awareness week letโ€™s encourage our friends and family to attend their cervical screening appointments ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿฆฑ ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ

Regular cervical screening (smear tests) are quick, simple, and crucial for women's health. The test is offered to women with a cervix aged 25 to 64.

The aim of cervical screening is to check for certain types of HPV and any abnormal cell changes early, that might develop into cervical cancer if left untreated.

We offer smear testing at your convenience in an unhurried consultation with one of our female expert GPโ€™s. If you have any questions about having the test, the cost, or our availability this week, please get in touch ๐Ÿ’—

Did you know that we can provide private prescriptions? ๐Ÿ’Š

Our GPโ€™s can prescribe any medication that an NHS GP would prescribe. There is a charge at the pharmacy similar to the charge NHS patients have, but this will vary depending on the drug, some can cost as little as ยฃ2, while others can cost more.

Our GPโ€™s will assess each request and advise whether a review is needed, either by phone or in person, before issuing the prescription. Any consultations required will be chargeable. It is our responsibility to ensure that your prescriptions remain safe and appropriate for you, and follow the NICE guidelines.

For repeat prescription requests there is a fee of ยฃ15, however if you are one of our subscribers, all repeat requests will be FREE!

If you have any questions about prescriptions, or our services, please contact our reception team or book in for a discovery call in the link in bio! ๐Ÿ“ž

Let's come together to raise awareness, support those living with diabetes, and promote healthy habits to prevent and manage this condition. We have written some essential tips below to help you on your own journey, or for someone you may know living with Diabetes.๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ“Healthy Eating: Opt for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Watch your carbohydrate intake and choose complex carbs over simple sugars.

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธManage Stress: Practice stress-reducing techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga, as stress can affect blood sugar levels.

๐ŸฉธMonitor Blood Sugar Levels: Regularly check your blood glucose levels to understand how your body responds to different foods, activities, and medications.

๐Ÿ’ŠTake Medications as Prescribed: Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding insulin or other diabetes medications.

๐Ÿ’งStay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help control blood sugar levels and avoid dehydration.

๐Ÿ“„Get Regular Check-Ups: Schedule routine appointments with your healthcare team to monitor your condition and make necessary adjustments.

๐Ÿ˜ดSleep Well: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, as poor sleep can impact blood sugar control.

๐Ÿง๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธBuild a Support System: Connect with family, friends, or a support group for encouragement and practical advice.

Today is World Digestive Health Day! Your gut is more important than you might think. Here's why!
1. The Centre of Your Well-being โš™๏ธ
Your digestive system is not just about processing food; itโ€™s at the core of your overall health. A healthy gut means better nutrient absorption, which translates to more energy and a stronger immune system. Think of your digestive system as a well-oiled machine that keeps everything else running smoothly.

2. Boosts Immunity ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
Did you know that about 70% of your immune system is housed in your gut? A diverse and balanced gut microbiome helps fend off harmful pathogens and keeps you healthy. Probiotics and fiber-rich foods are your gutโ€™s best friends in this battle.

3. Weight Management โš–๏ธ
Struggling with weight loss or maintenance? Your gut health could be the key. A balanced microbiome can help regulate your metabolism and reduce cravings. Incorporate foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, and whole grains to support a healthy weight.

4. Prevents Digestive Issues ๐ŸŒฟ
Bloating, constipation, and acid reflux can be signs of an unhappy gut. By focusing on digestive health, you can alleviate these uncomfortable symptoms. Stay hydrated, eat slowly, and avoid processed foods to keep your digestive system in top shape.

Tips for a Happy Gut ๐Ÿ˜Š
โ€ข Eat a Fiber Rich Diet: Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are your gutโ€™s best friend.
โ€ข Stay Hydrated: Water aids digestion and helps maintain the balance of good bacteria.
โ€ข Probiotics and Prebiotics: Yogurt, kefir, and fermented foods introduce beneficial bacteria, while garlic, onions, and bananas feed them.
โ€ข Exercise Regularly: Physical activity promotes healthy digestion.
โ€ข Mind Your Stress: Practices like meditation and deep breathing can improve gut health.

If you are struggling or worried about digestive issues and would like to discuss with one of our General Practitioners in further detail, please get in touch with our friendly reception team, to book an appointment.

Letโ€™s all enjoy the glorious sunshine, but not without these important tips! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ•ถ

1. Aim HIGH for your SPF.
NICE guidance is to never venture below an SPF 15 with 4-star UVA protection. But Dr Samantha Hunt would go further: โ€˜As a Dermatologist I would recommend the use of a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and 5 star UVA rating.โ€™

2. Use way more than you think you need!
Most people do not apply sunscreen thickly enough or frequently enough. The amount of sunscreen needed for the body of an average adult to achieve the stated SPF is around 35 ml. To put this in context, someone on a beach holiday with, say 6-8 hours in the sun per day, reapplying every 2 hours would use more than half a standard 200ml bottle of lotion in a single day!! Suddenly those 3 for 2 offers are looking even more appealing.

3. Re-apply, re-apply, re-apply.
Yes, please do what it says on the bottle!! Most recommend every 2 hours, and straight after being in the water (even if water-resistant), after towel drying, sweating or when it may have rubbed off.

4. Double up for prolonged exposure.
If you are going to be out long enough to risk burning, apply your sunscreen twice โ€“ once half an hour before you go out, and then again around the time you go out. This includes face, neck and ears. And donโ€™t forget that if you will be sweating or in and out of water, use a water-resistant cream.

Better safe and informed than sorry, Sun damage can take years to be detected and even if you are super careful now, you might have inadvertently suffered some damage years ago.

If you're ever concerned of changing moles or areas of sun damaged skin, or just want to get your skin health checked, get in touch and book in with our skin expert Dr Rina.

Whether you have a blood pressure condition or not it's good to check it occasionally.

Here are some top tips for monitoring your blood pressure at home ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

โ†’ Choose a machine that measures your blood pressure at your upper arm, not your wrist or finger.

โ†’ Make sure the cuff is the right size for your arm

โ†’ Make sure itโ€™s UK approved (we highly recommend the brand called Omron!)

A healthy blood pressure reading is usually below 135/90. If you check your blood pressure and are concerned it may be slightly high, do book in to see a GP.

Regular health check-ups are crucial to keep tabs on your overall well-being. Not only do they help spot potential health issues early on, but they also allow you to track trends in various markers. Here's why keeping up with yearly health checks is essential:

1๏ธโƒฃ Spotting Trends: Tracking changes in things like blood tests and ECG readings, for example: rises in HBA1c or PSA levels, and fluctuations in iron or vitamin D levels, can indicate underlying health issues. Early detection means early intervention, preventing more serious complications down the line.

2๏ธโƒฃ Preventive Care: Yearly check-ups give healthcare providers the opportunity to assess your risk factors for various diseases and provide personalized preventive care recommendations. This proactive approach can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing chronic conditions.

3๏ธโƒฃ Health Maintenance: Just like you wouldn't skip routine maintenance for your car, your body also needs regular tune-ups. Health check-ups ensure that you're staying on track with your health goals and making any necessary adjustments to your lifestyle or treatment plans.

4๏ธโƒฃ Holistic Assessment: Beyond specific tests, yearly health check-ups allow for a comprehensive assessment of your overall health, including factors like weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and mental well-being. This holistic approach ensures that no aspect of your health goes overlooked.

5๏ธโƒฃ Peace of Mind: Knowing that you're taking proactive steps to safeguard your health can provide peace of mind. It's empowering to stay informed about your health status and to address any concerns with the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Remember, your health is your most valuable asset, so don't neglect it! Schedule your yearly health check-up today and stay on top of your well-being. ๐Ÿ’ช

Tips For a Top Nights Sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด

If an interrupted night has become the norm for you, try our top tips to get you back on to an even keel!

1)CONSISTENCY IS KEY.

Spontaneity is all very fun and exciting but when it comes to your sleep pattern, think mirror, signal manoeuvre! Decide on your resting and rising times and stick to them, even at the weekends, so that your body's internal clock can set itself.

2.GET NATURAL SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE IN THE MORNING
Once you get to your official wake up time try to get some natural light as soon as possible. Your body senses natural light and uses it to set the body clock.

3.SCHEDULE YOUR WIND DOWN IN THE EVENING.
A consistent, soothing, wind down routine sends strong signals to your body that you are about to sleep. Think about including activities like reading a book, taking a warm bath, relaxing aromatherapy smells, calming herbal infusions, or practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation.

4.CREATE AN IDEAL SLEEP โ€˜COCOONโ€™.

Your bedroom should be cool (not freezing), quiet and dark clean and tidy! Use earplugs, eye masks, or white noise machines if necessary, and if your mattress, pillows and bedding has been limping on for over 10 years, consider upgrading- itโ€™s amazing what a properly chosen mattress can do for niggling back pain, and breathable linen for overall comfort.

5.PUT YOUR SCREEN TO BED!

A good hour before you turn in, your phone and tablets should be tucked up. Not just for limiting their blue light, which can disrupt sleep, but also to avoid any undesirable angsting over a work email - you can (and will) be able to deal with that so much better in the morning!

For the remaining 5 tips, head to our blog post on our website here!
