🔊 Welcoming National Energy System Operator's (NESO) Report on Achieving Clean Power by 2030: Flexibility Leads the Way!

We’re pleased to see NESO’s latest report recognise the vital role that demand flexibility will play in supporting a clean, resilient power system by 2030.

The report shows how demand flexibility—through smart EV charging, shifting household demand, and responsive industrial loads—could increase four to five times over current levels, reaching 10-12 GW.

By moving energy use away from peak times, we can reduce pressure on the grid and support a faster transition to renewable energy.

The ZEB is an excellent example of a flexible heating solution, offering winter demand flexibility by decoupling heat needs from electricity consumption. This is particularly valuable for smaller homes where installing heat pumps may be challenging.

NEW BLOG: Why it would be crazy not to extend VAT relief to Heat Batteries now that they're included in the Social Housing Fund, written by our CEO

We broke the news last week that heat batteries, including our ZEB, are now part of the UK Government’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund. This is a huge step forward for decarbonising homes, especially for social housing residents who can now access more sustainable, affordable heating.

BUT, there is still more to be done...

Despite this progress, heat batteries aren’t yet classified as Energy Saving Materials (ESM), meaning consumers still pay VAT when choosing this green solution. It’s time for the government to extend VAT relief to heat batteries, just like they do for heat pumps. This would give more households the chance to adopt low-carbon technologies and help the UK hit its decarbonisation targets.

With over half the energy market (including and ) and key organisations like backing this change, it's clear that VAT relief for heat batteries is the next logical step.

Let’s make heating more affordable for everyone, and give consumers the choice they deserve!
