It was SO lovely to welcome this pair back today! ππ
We had a super buddy session that included revising times tables and then looking at place value in 4-digit and 5-digit numbers.
As always, we had lots of fun and lots of healthy competition! ππ
A great start to the weekend! π₯³
Welcome back, Rory! π
It was so lovely to see Rory again today, after the long summer holidays! π₯°
We spent time catching up on his news and then looked at the features of a good 'recount' and planned a recount of Rory's summer. π
Great work today, Rory, and SO lovely to have you back! π
When you have 666 followers on Friday 13th... π¬
Morning all!
Friday Funnies time! π€£ππ
(LOVE this one!) π
A brilliant buddy session with this pair, yesterday! ππ
William and Ollie practised some tricky times tables, before going on to play 'Times Tables Heroes' and 'Times Tables Bingo'. π²
A healthy level of competition made things more exciting! ππ
In this evening's buddy session, Libby and Alfie worked on finding common factors and presenting them in Venn diagrams, before playing a board game that involved solving multi-step worded problems.
Great teamwork tonight, guys! ππΌππΌ
Aivie and her incredible snacks again! πππ
Fortunately, her maths was EQUALLY as incredible today as she practised her 3 times tables and then applied them to solving a range of reasoning problems. βοΈ
So proud of the fantastic progress you are making, Aivie! π₯°ππΌ
Enid made a great start to the new academic year! π
We practised times tables and devised a plan for building confidence in this area, before practising our mental maths skills and revising some Year 4 topics!
A great start to Year 5, Enid! π₯°
So this buddy session was another great brain workout today!! π§
Carys and Georgie were playing a 'theme park' game involving solving multi-step worded problems (and they were NOT easy!) π’
Great work, girls! ππΌππΌ
Meet...
David "Two Books"! πππ
This young man really impressed me with his reading today! As soon as we finished reading one book, he was asking, "Can we read another?"
He wanted to read a third book but we decided to practise some spelling using the 'ir' sound instead!
David, I am SO proud of you! π₯°
Keep up the fantastic work! ππΌππΌππΌ
Today, Lachy and I were learning to use and apply the formula for calculating the area of triangles.
During our 'brain breaks' we were also trying to complete this Tarsia puzzle on fractions, decimals and percentages (which was definitely more of a 'brain workout' than a 'brain break'!) π§
Huge thank you to Lachy and his mum for the delicious chocolate eclair he brought me as a surprise. It was soooo yummy! π
Thank you! π₯°
Brilliant buddies! ππ
A great buddy session with this pair last night! π₯°
We practised tricky spellings and then went on to revise punctuation: capital letters, full stops and question marks.
I am SO proud of the hard work they are both putting in and the super progress they are making individually. π₯°π₯°
Busy buddies! ππ
These buddies were busy today practising and using the sounds 'ou' and 'ie'.
We practised using the sounds to spell and read words through whiteboard work, games and writing. ππ
I love how the competitive element of games pushes the children on, but also the nature of 'independent' work encourages them to collaborate and support one another. π₯°
A lovely session with Gethin today that involved using column addition and subtraction to solve worded problems (and using the inverse operation to check our answers). β οΈβοΈ
He's obviously been practising his times tables, too, as he thrashed me at Multiplication Muddle today! βοΈ
Great work, Gethin! ππΌππΌππΌ
Happy Monday! π
Hope this week brings lots of exciting new opportunities for us all. π€πΌ
Yesterday, I went to a fantastic tutor networking event in Manchester. π
It was useful, interesting and great to meet up with like-minded individuals. But most importantly, it provided some very much needed laughs!! π I loved every minute. π₯°
Huge thank yous go to Richard Cowell, Vicki Gilby and Sharon Cawley for organising it.
It was lovely to meet everyone in person, and hope to see you all again soon! π€πΌ
Current situation!!
Almost in Manchester to meet up with all the other tutors. Eek!! π

Go and smash it! πͺπ
So proud of this young lady today! π
She aced my 'Spelling Challenge' to find the missing letters to complete the tricky words! ππΌ
Brilliant spelling skills! ππΌ
Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love tutoring Aivie, and she is making FAB progress with her maths (we were solving more worded problems today)....
but I also love seeing her snack selection each week!!! ππ€£π
And, for those who are interested, I can PERSONALLY recommend cherry cola flavoured Tic Tacs!!! ππ
Thanks for the great maths/snacks, Aivie! ππΌπ
Today, Margot was comparing numbers using the 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols and placing numbers on a blank numberline.
As usual, she worked her socks off! π§¦
Super maths, Margot! ππΌ
Gethin was using his times tables knowledge to help him calculate fractions of numbers today. βοΈ
He also beat me at a game of 'telling the time' bingo... twice!! β°οΈπ€¦π»ββοΈ
Well done, Gethin! ππΌππΌππΌ
Here's Georgie putting the finishing touches to her piece of persuasive writing yesterday! π₯°
Great stuff, Georgie! ππΌ
Lachy was a busy bee yesterday, calculating the area of rectangles and parallelograms! π
Next session, we are going to learn the formula for calculating the area of triangles... πΊοΈπΊοΈπΊοΈ
