We are delighted to welcome Roger to the Brynkinalt. With a depth of knowledge and get stuck in attitude, he will lead and help develop the gardening team and gardens at the house and across our new holiday cottage venture.

One of the first challenges they are tackling is a woolly aphid issue in the conservatory which has included Sam hard at work wielding a sponge and wiping individual leaves!

Still places left on our Historic Houses Invitation to View December tour and check our website for next year’s NGS Open garden dates….

Great to see the results from a recent photo shoot now in print in this month’s edition of The Rake magazine….

Cleverly shot by who made wonderful use of just some of the opportunities around the house and gardens.

Some exterior shots first, interior ones to follow. Some gorgeous clothes and charming models…

If you would like more info about the possibilities for film locations or photos shoots please contact us at The Estate Office or via link in the bio..

We are delighted to be hosting the International Sheepdog Trials here at Brynkinalt next September.

Preparations are underway and sponsorship packages are now available - details on attached info or contact the Estate Office and we will put you in touch with the organisers.

There are various different sponsorship options to suit different budgets and ambitions, and hopefully the event will have a high footfall and good media coverage so don’t miss out on this great opportunity.

We hope that the event will be an opportunity to show a wide range of people, from local towns and rural areas as well as international visitors, the skills of these incredible working dogs and their handlers and a chance to celebrate the many things that North Wales has to offer.

A fascinating day yesterday at the stunning Ditchley Park for a Conservation Workshop run by Historic Houses. A treat to sit in their historic rooms where Churchill held secret meetings during the early years of World War II.

It’s always great to get out of the Brynkinalt bubble, meet people facing similar issues and visit other houses to pick up ideas about how to consolidate and improve what we offer here.

An interesting drive home through the floods to hear about the challenges that the team at home had faced all day with the torrential rain.

An extremely vigorous prod to reassess our monitoring and disaster protocols in light of the conversations we had all day about preventative conservation!

It was a treat to hear Tom and Tomos entertain guests at the drinks party following the Welsh Estates Forum a few weeks ago.

They are both part of Johns' Boys - an award-winning male voice choir from Rhosllannerchrugog and dashed straight from their performance in the Drawing Room to a rehearsal for their ongoing tour after their success on Britain’s Got Talent.

These two are amazing so if you haven’t heard the full choir sing, then we recommend you check them out…more tour dates just out for 2025…🎶

Fortune favours the brave…

There are many cogs turning all the time to keep on an Estate like Brynkinalt moving forward. While recent posts have focused on the very busy time we have had in the house, things have been equally busy in all the other departments too.

The farm team have been full on with new arrivals as our organic dairy herd block calves in the autumn (more cute calf photos to come soon I promise).

We have also managed to get one last cut of silage despite the miserable weather slowing grass growth earlier than usual. Bizarrely this 4th cut produced 444 bales ….

An essential part of producing the forage we need for the herd, cutting is a vital part of the management of our grassland and this last cut will help provide the right conditions for autumn reseeds and a last slurry application before NVZ regulations kick in on 15th October.

Gorgeous autumnal morning…

Catering is a huge part of the events that we do here and getting it right is critical for the enjoyment and memories of the occasion.

Helping a wide range of private and corporate guests as we do means catering for many different formats and budgets and so we work with several wonderful local caterers to ensure we meet the individual needs of each event.

A huge thankyou must go to Ed Potter and his team at Oak Apple Catering for the delicious selection of food produced for the recent CLA events.

And that’s a wrap for September….

Many thanks to all who turned out on a rather wet and miserable evening on Thursday to support a charity event for Horatio’s Garden at the RJ&AH Orthopaedic Hospital at Gobowen.

Thankfully once inside, with the fires lit and armed with drinks and canapés, everyone forgot about the weather and, judging from the noise levels, had a jolly time.

Thank you to all the volunteers and Charlie and Sarah Clarke for their help and to Miles Macadam Ltd and Horwich Cohen Coghlan Solicitors for sponsoring the event.

Great to hear from Olivia Chapple, Founder of the charity and Bunny Guinness, Designer of the garden, and catch up with some of those who so kindly helped fund the build of the garden back in 2018. Sadly we didn’t manage to get a photo of Iain’s mum Sue and the rest of the committee who worked so hard to make it happen back then.

As you can imagine, ongoing care and maintenance of the space is the challenge now and the HG team would love to build numbers for their “friends” scheme and contacts with local businesses to partner with. If you would like more info about these opportunities, do take a look at their website https://www.horatiosgarden.org.uk/ or email us and we will put you in touch

The gardening team tackle so many different jobs during their working week here, from mowing to house plants, but w**ding is a fairly major part of the role!

They say a w**d is just the “wrong plant in the wrong place” so the type of w**ding can vary hugely, from delicate clearing around new planting to full scale jungle busting in the woodland shrubbery….

A big thank you to Charlie Ireland aka “Cheerful Charlie” for speaking at the CLA’s Welsh Estates Forum at Brynkinalt last week.

For those of you who haven’t watched Clarksons Farm, Charlie from Ceres Rural is a professional agronomist and land agent who also happens to advise Jeremy Clarkson on farm management.

He also very kindly spared some time to pop into our farm and say hello to our office team who were hoping to meet him!

Back to reality today TB testing…🤞🏻🤞🏻

Bryngwilla’s sitting room. Fancy curling up with a good book or film after a day exploring the local area.🍷📖🎬

Whether you are looking for beautiful countryside, historic cities or the odd castle or two North Wales has so much to offer. And Shropshire has been listed as one of ABTA’s Top Ten global destinations to watch so we think Bryngwilla is the perfect place for a luxurious break and a great location to explore from….

Where will you visit?

And breathe..what a busy couple of days.

Great to host the first Welsh Estates Forum for the CLA (The Country Land and Business Association) on Wednesday.

A chance to tell people about our business journey and listen to others including Jo Holden - Head of Sustainability at Grovensor Rural Estates and Cheerful Charlie from Clarksons Farm.

Always good to talk to those with similar challenges and share ideas and experiences.

Many thanks to all who supported and attended

Group tours are available by arrangement - please contact the Estate Office for more info.

Individuals can book single tickets on certain days through Historic Houses’ Invitation to View scheme. Places must be booked in advance through https://www.historichouses.org/house/brynkinalt/visit/

Quite hard to capture on camera due to the dark trees in the background but if you look carefully you can see the mass feeding over the front lawn of the swallows who have chosen to call Brynkinalt home this summer.

They have had multiple successful broods this year and clearly are loving our organic farming methods and subsequent insect life although it was a slow start for many pollinator populations this year due to the miserable weather.

From the gatherings on the wires, it looks like they will soon be leaving us for warmer climates. Let’s hope they have a good winter elsewhere and return in these numbers again next year.

15/09/2024

Looking forward to hosting this event in 10 days time to celebrate 5 years of this amazing facility being available in our area to help patients suffering with a spinal injury.

Tickets available for anyone interested in supporting and learning more about this incredible charity at the Orthopaedic Hospital at Gobowen.

We need to know numbers for canapés shortly so if you are planning to come along please buy your tickets as soon as you can…

Please feel free to pass info on to family, friends or work colleagues who might be interested in supporting too.

All welcome.

A great chance to meet new people and businesses as we hosted The CLA Women’s Network lunch this week.

As the event included a tour of the house and a talk about my year as High Sheriff of Clwyd 2023-2024, I did do rather a lot of talking but there was plenty of chatter from everyone else too over coffee and a delicious light lunch by Oakapple Catering.

Many thanks to sponsors HM3 Legal and Fieldmouse Research for supporting this event.

We’re looking forward to also hosting the Welsh Estates Forum for the CLA next week and a fundraising event for local charity Horatio’s Garden on 26th.

If you are planning on attending either event, please book your tickets asap, numbers needed for catering purposes.

It’s a busy September!

An early start yesterday for an exciting photo shoot with for Magazine. 📷🎥

Can’t share photos until after publication in Oct but thankfully the weather was kinder and all the hard work preparing for the NGS open garden event meant the West Garden was looking good for the all important start for the team - coffee and bacon butties!!! ☕️🥓
