If you live in the Thetford area, please come along and join us at this family friendly event! 😊
Our staff will be on hand to offer fire safety advice, demonstrations and information - and children (and grown-ups) will have the chance to look around one of our fire engines 🚒
Breckland Council will be hosting a family friendly Fire Safety and Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Afternoon!
Come on down to The Market Place from 12-2pm on 31st July,
Teams from Norfolk Constabulary, Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service and Breckland Council will be there sharing safety advice and information.
They will be joined by a Fire Engine and Police car for families to visit and will also be sharing information about how you can get involved in your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
As well as local initiatives and support services available to you.
We're here for you 24/7. Here's some of the incidents we attended in June and some of our prevention work, carried out to help make Norfolk safer for everyone. With 1,358 emergency calls received, our control room heroes in headsets had their busiest month so far this year.
Such a fantastic effort by Steve and everyone involved ❤️
🌟 Fundraiser Friday | A charity football match has raised a huge £26,000 - to be split between us and two other charities - in memory of Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service on-call firefighter Carl Mills.
Carl, who worked as a Watch Manager, tragically took his own life on Boxing Day 2022.
His friend, Steve Plunkett, has been organising football matches for the last 10 years, choosing a different charity each time. And as a tribute to Carl, he chose us to support this year: https://ow.ly/SgW150SIY82 ⚽🚒
Don’t forget we’ll be at the 16th Norwich Pride tomorrow (Saturday), joining in the celebrations with lots of other organisations and groups. We can't wait!
Please make sure you stop by and say ‘hello’ - you can ask us any questions about community and home safety, and if you're thinking about joining the service, we can give you the lowdown on recruitment. See you there! Norwich Pride
If you’re at the Old Buckenham air show this weekend, then taxi over to say ‘hi’ to our teams when you take a break from enjoying the iconic aircraft and dazzling displays!
You can talk all things fire safety with us, and please do ask any questions about how to propel yourself into a fire service career such as joining as a full-time or on-call firefighter. You can even learn a new skill - we'll be demonstrating how to use a throw line, which can help someone in difficulty in water.
We look forward to seeing you there! Old Buckenham Airfield Events
This World Drowning Prevention Day, Carrow Red Watch are sharing some simple steps to stay safe in the water this summer 🌊
1. Float to live
2. Tips for open water swimming
3. Don't swim under the influence of drink or drugs
4. Use a life ring or throw line to save someone
Today is World Drowning Prevention Day, which highlights the risks of being in and around water and some safety messages.
According to the National Water Safety Forum, the key drowning statistics across the UK are:
- 236 water-related fatalities happened 2023, with 157 in England
- 83% of those fatalities were men, and men aged 60-69 made up the majority of those incidents
- 63% of accidental fatalities happened at inland waters.
This is sobering reading. Please do enjoy Norfolk's coast, waterways and rivers but do so safely; anyone can drown, no one should.
Remember to:
- avoid going into water if you’ve used alcohol or drugs, and stop others you're with from doing so; it impairs judgement about water temperature and swim distances
- wear a lifejacket if you're using craft like kayaks, paddleboards and boats. A jacket will turn most unconscious wearers onto their back which reduces the chances of drowning
- 'float to live’ if you find yourself in difficulty: tilt your head back with your ears under the water's surface, and try to breathe normally. Move your hands around to help you stay afloat and spread your arms and legs to help make yourself stable.
Keep following for more information about World Drowning Prevention Day, and don't forget to press the 'Share' button.
This we'd like to share some fire prevention tips for those in our farming community here in Norfolk:
✅ Ensure bales are stacked away from roads and buildings and limit the size of stacks, with sufficient space between each to prevent any fire spreading.
✅ Consider introducing a different, less flammable crop in fields of wheat and barley to serve as a fire break.
✅ Keep machinery well maintained, blow down daily and carry a fire extinguisher.
✅ Maintain access points to your land and have a What3Words logged for each access point, so we can find them easily if a fire breaks out.
Thanks for working so closely with us throughout the year 😃

According to the National Water Safety Forum, there were 157 water-related fatalities in England in 2023. We're supporting tomorrow's World Drowning Prevention Day, to help highlight the risks of being in and around water and share some simple safety messages.
Enjoy our coast, waterways and rivers but please do so safely; anyone can drown, no one should. Remember to:
- enter any water slowly to get your body used to the change in temperature (called ‘acclimatising’)
- avoid going into water if you’ve used alcohol or drugs; it impairs your judgement about water temperature and swim distances
- 'float to live’ if you find yourself in difficulty: tilt your head back with your ears under the surface of the water, and try to breathe normally. Move your hands around to help you stay afloat and spread your arms and legs to help make yourself stable.
We're supporting Thursday's World Drowning Prevention Day, to help reinforce the message about water safety.
Anyone can drown, no one should. If you're visiting Norfolk's coast and waterways, remember these simple hints and tips:
- Wear a lifejacket when using kayaks, paddleboards, boats and other craft. Life jackets turn most unconscious wearers onto their back, reducing the chances of drowning
- If you plan on a swim and will be on your own, tell someone where you’re going and for how long. Ideally swim where lifeguards are present
- 'Float to live’ if you get into difficulty: tilt your head back with your ears below the water surface, and try to breathe normally. Move your hands around to help you stay afloat and spread your arms and legs to help make yourself stable.
🏳️🌈 This Saturday will mark the 16th Norwich Pride, and like many of the county’s organisations we will be there to help celebrate!
Our teams are looking forward to speaking with visitors at the event about home and community safety. Plus, you can ask us any questions about joining the service! Visit Norwich Pride for all the information you need about the day 🏳️🌈
☀️ Sunny Hunny lived up to its name at our open day, which raised a cool £600 for Fire Fighters Charity
Our cadets showed visitors how firefighters put out a car fire and our Aerial Ladder Platform offered a bird's eye view of the area to Cllr Andrew Jamieson. Norfolk County Council's Chairman Stuart Dark gave a speech to welcome visitors and thank the emergency services for their work in keeping Norfolk safe and James Wild MP also came along to see us.
Thanks to everyone involved, including East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust RNLI Rapid Relief Team UK Norfolk Constabulary Maritime and Coastguard Agency and KL1 Radio
We have more open days planned at fire stations across the county this summer, so keep an eye on our social media for updates of one near you 😀
1 in 3 driver related traffic incidents are caused by loss of concentration and distraction at the wheel in Norfolk.
We're partners in a new road safety campaign called Stay Focused. The Norfolk road safety team has lots of guidance and advice to keep your brain focused on the road ahead when you’re driving.
Keeping our brains fully engaged when we drive will help minimise the risk of having a road traffic collision.
Get your and your passengers home safely. Stay focused. Stay Safe
You've heard of NetZero but what about ThetZero?
Thetford Fire Station is part of the ThetZero Sculpture Trail, which is in place across the town until 4th September.
All the sculptures have been made by local schools in partnership with Thetford Business Forum, using business waste. As well as being a great thing to discover during the summer holidays, the trail highlights the town's efforts to achieve NetZero.
Trail maps are available from Thetford Garden Centre, Ancient House Museum and the town's library.
A small fire can become a big problem very quickly. If you’re outdoors enjoying the warmer weather, remember to dispose of litter - take extra care to ensure items like glass bottles are disposed of properly as they can start fires.
Also, fully extinguish and dispose of ci******es properly, and don’t throw them onto the ground or out of a car window.
If you see a fire in the open, no matter how small, call 999 and get yourself to safety.
Follow us for more tips in the warmer weather and the rest of summer! ☀️

These days, there is a greater risk of wildfire which impacts our homes and our communities. If you’re planning a BBQ during this warm spell, remember to be 'summer safe' and help prevent a wildfire:
☑️ Keep BBQs away from sheds, fences, shrubs, and furniture - anything that can easily catch light
☑️ Make sure the BBQ is on a flat and fireproof surface
☑️ Avoid using disposable BBQs in our open spaces.
If you see a fire in the open, no matter how small, call 999 and get yourself to safety.
Download the what3words app now, so if you need to, you can help us find the location of a fire more easily (see comments).

If you’re heading to the coast or local waterways this weekend and into the school summer holidays, you can reduce risks of drowning or getting into difficulties with these safety tips:
☑️ Enter any water slowly to get your body used to the change in temperature (called ‘acclimatising’) and so to avoid hazards that you might not be able to see
☑️ Do not go into water if you’ve used alcohol or drugs; it impairs your judgement about things like water temperature and swim distances
☑️ If you find yourself in difficulty, ‘float to live’: tilt your head back with your ears under the surface of the water, and try to breathe normally. Move your hands around to help you stay afloat and spread your arms and legs to help make yourself stable.

Help you and your loved ones to be ‘summer safe’ on the roads as warmer weather stays with us for the next couple of days:
☑️ Check the weather ahead of long journeys and adjust or change your plans if necessary; try to avoid a long journey in very warm weather
☑️ Hotter road surfaces affect tyres which affects stopping distance, so take extra consideration when you need to slow down or stop
☑️ Keep a couple of bottles of water in the car in case you are in traffic tailbacks or break down during the very warm weather.
Follow us for more safety tips in the next few days, and for the rest of summer! ☀️
